So, what's Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated's specialty now?

Our biggest specialization was Learning, and we still crit-failed on it this turn, and now that's crippled.

Diplomacy? Our reputation is in tatters, so that's crippled.

Intrigue? Already crippled with Russ gone.

Martial? Hah, nice joke, we already know that we're never going to vote on anything like assaulting a rival.

Occult? Oh great, now we can cripple ourselves even more by blowing the magic masquerade by accident.
Crippled is at best an over exaggeration
Losing Ludivine sucks, but at worst that leaves us…back to where we were a turn ago? At worst?
Diplomacy?
Danville People: Eccentric Chocolatier, But In That One Tunnel Scene, You Know The One

The people of Danville and the broader Tri-State Area view Dr. Heinz closer to a wacky uncle than a distant CEO, largely benefiting off of his more benevolent policies and viewing the rest of them as too unimportant to really affect their lives. Quality of life has improved significantly due to the jobs offered in and around Danville, enough that most will overlook the downsides of his control, but some people are rightfully beginning to tire of the chaos that continually affects their lives. Being subjected to raining meat and mad scientists running rampant in the streets grates on the nerves after a while, and an active Flubber scare did not do wonders for us. Dr. Heinz's declarations of 'independence' and plays at being a mad scientist are seen as absurdly hilarious by many, viewing it as a parody of how 'evil' other CEOs can be and a sign that Doofenshmirtz alone is actually self-aware.

[brief giggling fit]

A few have even taken to the company's 'Doofania' insistence, albeit in a mostly jocular or humoring manner. It's seen as a repudiation and mockery of the classic CEO delusions of grandeur, rather than… delusions of grandeur itself. DEI can, in broad strokes, be seen as an equivalent to a mad inventor's chocolate factory or a nonhostile but somewhat mercurial fey; a powerful force that can be turned to for aid and succor, but never without its dangers and completely unpredictable.

National Opinion: Irresponsible Millionaire

The rest of the country views DEI as just another megacorp, albeit one with odd branding, without a speciality and with a wide variety of products. The recent Flubber scare combined with several smaller incidents like the rain of meat has led many to view us as irresponsible or even childish, but not outright malevolent. The work on the famine earned considerable goodwill, and developments in fields that the general populace can care about, such as dinosaurs, do still mitigate these issues. DEI's weird 'Doofanian' fixation is ignored by most, seeing it as a marketing ploy or grandiose delusion that some choose to play along with because of monetary incentives.

US Government: Predictably Unpredictable Thorn in Side

The Federal Government has little reason to be fond of us, given that we are still pushing back against the very delicate power structure of the US. DEI still remains atop a large jenga tower made up of bigger, more dangerous jenga pieces, but we've proven that we can still do unpredictable things that they don't like. We shouldn't expect any pushback as long as we don't cause more active issues, but it's clear that we're moving onto thin ice. We're a ways off from hit squads or guard mobilizations, but a significant drop in further opinion could be cause for them to begin taking actions to sanction us.

Opinion has been updated.
It chunked it, but we can fix it. The stuff we've been doing has explicitly mitigated it, and we're only at the "approaching thin ice" part for the government. We're probably going to have to speed run the DOI quest, but Khan sold fusion power to Thembria, got the government pissed at him, and pulled himself back in like two turns. We were planning the DOI quest anyway, I don't think anyone was planning to piss off the government anytime soon, and maybe we'll have to concede a Diplo action?

Intrigue was never crippled, if it was crippled because we lost Russ we would have complained about it being crippled the last three turns he was missing.

While our Occult stat sucks, we're progressing smoothly, nothing has changed negatively about it, and we're still better off than a lot of people who don't have occult stats.

Like I get this all sucks, but maybe we should all take a step back, cool down a bit, and wait for the QM's to respond? There's a lot of heated tempers here and we're starting to spin in circles.

Whilst I'm extremely disheartened by flubbery events this turn - and it's really quite unfortunately timed, given the adrenaline shot of interest that the recent mechanics overhaul and streamlining was providing - I think doomsaying about how terrible Doof and DEI are is a bit much.

Jesus christ guys, please...
Well this is a bit what happens when turn after turn something always goes wrong that need more actions to fix then it is to break. Crits have been weighted to cause more issues for us when we fail then when we get them to success. People are getting tried of it and if we don't say anything nothing will change or even get acknowledged.

[] Buy Wedondoofed Island
  • Initial cost 4 income
  • Build Risky Research Labs (Stewardship action/Roddy PA)
  • Set up press team to be translucent about what your doing there (Diplomacy action?)
  • Bonus:
    • Build worker robots that are cool with multiple bodies and light fidelity back ups.
    • Greco-Roman to pull some more real estate above sea level
    • Buy batteries from Khan
    • Create Flubber plant operated entirely by robots
The first three parts would diminish concerns. Everything else is "might as well get the perpetual motion machine out of this mess".

We can fix it. Maybe. Unless something get's chunked again. Remember the Meat Rain Inator? and Kataclysm? and Mad Science? Maybe we will be able to extract some actions from our EXTREMELY limited action economy to return our PR to "Neutral" but what's the F*cking point when the next critical failure or negative inator will put us right back here again.

Since we're in tatters anyway, I suggest we at least take our fate into our own hands for once and blow the magic masquerade on purpose.

If the world is determined to not let us achieve greatness, than let us at least make the world tremble!

EDIT: Who knows, maybe if a rival gets friendly with the Huntsclan that will finally convince the thread to vote to assault someone.
I suggest we try Hawaii masquerade first. Put Olivia on exposing it. Maybe board cruise liner, mess with navigation a bit, have it pass near islands and make a live stream video of it. Then when government attempt damage control offer your help since you actually have a high ranking alien official with you (Plealkey). Form delegation and attempt to negotiate with GalFed, perhaps offer them Drusselstain in exchange for Hawaii, it clearly has much more rarer fauna. Or if they concerned about Hawaii mosquito why not just clone it some more. Actually strange that we don't have option to contact them as faction since we are well aware of them.

Yeah, no, lots of other people are right. If Crit Fails in this system are this more punishing than *any* of our crit successes, and a character can do something that they were *wildly* against at random, just because lol, fuck us, then like... I'm not sure what the point in trying is?

I actually like the idea of giving the aliens Drusselstain.
But it's only going to work if we very carefully make sure they don't actually visit before agreeing to take it.

I actually disagree. I don't think it's the crit fail that had 0.27% chance of happening that was the problem. I think it was the lack of knowledge of how the procedure worked and lack of heads up as to the risks. Also, the lack of meaningful warnings that would have let us avert those risks. (It was weird that Ludivine wandered to an item that she previously vetoed for instance, and while I agree that that's absolutely in character for her, that knowledge of her character wasn't something the thread at large was aware of).

For the PR hit what does that actually mean? Haven't wrapped my head around the new mechanics yet, but it seems like the Feds have other shit to worry about than sending hit squads, and the nebulous idea od "Sanctions" are kinda uhhh weird since they'd sorta involve recognizing "Doofania" as an actual political entity lol. Seriously, no you don't sanction non-state actors, a company that you claim is "totes McGoats still under government jurisdiction yessiree" doing stuff you don't like is when you exisisting laws and institutions to exert that sweet sweet executive power to enforce whatever legislative code that results in the desired smackdown. And then that plays into if Doof has fucked around enough for the other Megacorps to be happy about the precedent of Uncle Sam getting his stomping boots on for a "King." And I guess that plays into the PR hit for other kings which, might be mechanics, but it doesn't seem like we get that much from them on a faction-wide scale and any really meaningful interactions happen mostly person to person so eehh.

And ultimately PR is like, so are people gonna willingly starve by boycotting one of the more affordable food options around? If any food boycotts do happen I someone imagine price (maybe cricket burgers don't ship easily to the coasts) and taste are more involved than any legit moral outrage.

I kinda agree with the general sense of frustration at lack of progress, but it seems to be at least partly because people are kinda tossing everything at the wall to see what sticks and being surprised when random stuff stuck to a wall isn't as great. Part of that is from the not unwarranted feeling there are a ton of balls in the air, but it might be time to let some drop tbh. I think it's clear this quest is not designed for Doof to do everything (or really most things) on his own so time to prioritize as painful as it seems.

I'd argue its still learning we just need to get a new councilor

It means this: DoofQuest- a Disney Villains Victorious CK2-Style Quest Crossover

So...on a different note, is Kitsune going to go feral?

That...could be incredibly bad.

I'll admit, I am saddened and worried by all of these problems, and how it sometimes feels like things are constantly collapsing. But we're not crippled in any sense.

Seems unlikely to me. She's a magical creature, she typically disguises herself as a human instead of an animal person, and that would be really harsh for a low roll on a personal.

I think it's more likely she caused trouble for Bellweather, who we are ideologically opposed to but not currently in conflict with. Hopefully it just means the possibility of working with Bellweather is closed off to us, rather than outright kicking off hostilities.

Even if we take this pretty uncharitable view that critfails are always of greater effect than crit successes - though it might feel that way in recent times - this simply doesn't make sense. The majority of actions either succeed normally or fail in a way that leaves us no worse off than before.

Even putting aside this basic logic though, can you honestly say that DEI is even close to how it was at the start of this quest?

People were explicitly warned not to send him in the elevator but most voters kept voting for the schmuck bait option anyway. It would be strange if it didn't have negative consequences. You might argue that the schmuck bait shouldn't have been available in the first place but I don't think there would be much point.
For the PR hit what does that actually mean?
We get back some of our Lunatic cred. The people that really matter view us as irresponsible and are less likely to trust us with secrets or important business. (-15 penalty to collabs).

Public opinion is reduced again which will probably hurt our consumer market share a bit. We can recover especially if we focus on stuff like curing cancer instead of making dinosaurs.

Federal opinion is low but that shouldn't be too much of a problem as long as we avoid provoking the feds much further (e.g by breaking into a maximum security federal prison).

This by itself isn't too bad but it makes us vulnerable and Doom's turn is coming up.
