The hero unit is too much trouble to deal with and we need the decreased DC anyhow. I just hope he leaves Kronos anyhow to help the company's fortunes fall further by losing precious employees.

I don't want an employee whose loyalty is tied to "Just let me work in peace"

Oh god, having looked into the Phantom Blot some more I am far more pessimistic

Running gangs and criminal enterprises are a large part of his character and he's apparently skilled at hypnosis, which means that Mirage liking him means nothing at best and at worst is disastrous

Honestly if this is him I'm tempted to call bullshit just because of how fucking awful it would be for us

EDIT: By the way @Made in Heaven the reroll for Toon Railroad should be 69 not 67, which I'm not sure if it would count as a "dismal failure" since it was only one off from being a bare one

Man, I have no clue what is going on half the time with these characters. I have never followed Disney comics so all I know is from the wiki whenever someone points out the significance of characters 😖

So we probably need to hire our own hypnosis hero to test if Mirage is actually hypnotize.

I may be being paranoid but I can't find any mention of this character and Douglas means "dark stranger" and "la Mancha" means "spot, stain or patch"

Aka the Phantom Blot which probably isn't good
Hm. Disturbingly possible- and it may be the consequence of the failure! The action 'succeeds,' but at a price.

On the other hand, we can't take it as confirmed. Especially since this La Mancha paper-and-ink company actually exists, and has for too long to be some kind of scam. If this is a plot by the Phantom Blot, it's one he's willing to commit to with long-lasting, long-standing resources and a good public reputation among other toons.

Either that or he's been a very, very busy bee for a short amount of time, which is admittedly possible. We'll need to be on guard for infiltration.

I dont trust anyone who makes mind control/ emotional control devices
I'd rather have someone on staff who does that so that we have a way of understanding how others do it and counteracting it, personally.

My main objection to Dr. Bortel isn't that he ever worked on a mind control device- hell, Doof fired up an "Everyone Think Like Me-inator" just earlier this year!

It's that Dr. Bortel clearly doesn't want to work for someone who identifies as a supervillain. He'd do better under the zaibatsu or something.

We should hire Mesmerella.

She'll know the warning signs and may be able to un-hypnotize our hypnotized hero units, if any.

The issue being that we'd need an in character reason to do so, which we do not have
We've been seriously considering hiring Mesmerella for several months. The main reasons we haven't done so are that we only get one Diplomacy action per turn (and we've just reduced our AI difficulty by quite a bit), and because we've had high priorities on other areas.

Okay, we don't know who Dougal la Mancha is, people are guessing he is the Phantom Blot, a criminal mastermind who is possibly Mickey's nemesis. We don't know for sure, he could just be what he appears to be. If he is, bad news as we have another evil influence on the toon population. If not, he would just be another person trying to influence them.

Guys, here's my take. We failed. Both times. Our actions just happened to coincide with a plan by this potential Blot. That crit was his crit; not ours.

As the horde of gangsters, madmen, and supervillains raced for Duckburg, a shadow slunk out of the emptied city-prison behind them. It clapped, applause ringing through empty halls.

"My my my, what an impressive performance. I will simply have to ensure I have a good act to follow it"
Is this Phantom Blot's following act from the Nega duck? Derived nega duck criminal toons as a resource to more easily contest him with?

Ahh. Is your thesis that 'la Mancha' needed to roll double our roll to score a critical success?
We have seen opposed rolls for national actions before, like with Doom's DC 148 check to recognize Russ based on our own roll of 148 to infiltrate him. So I have concerns, yes.

Alternately, he may have had hidden DC reductions for the action from his local infrastructure or Mirage's efforts that brought the action's DC below 70, but if we're talking worst case scenarios I think the fact that he nailed an intrigue check more than double our own is worth noting.
