On Thread Etiquette:

I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

Please endeavour to be cordial. :^)

[X] Yes: You will take her, devoting the effort necessary to train this young prodigy into a proper runesmith. [Cost: Lock 1 action for minimum 6 turns] [Gain: Snerra Magnasdottir, 18-year-old Prodigy would-be Runesmith]

maybe spend 1 apprentice action for them to help every once awhile

Changed my mind, because I think it would be unfair to the other apprentices to drop everything and prioritize the newbie, and Snorri wouldn't do that. Plus it's better for us mechanically.

Edit: I know it wouldn't literally drop everything, but I think we would be making an exception for her.

God, I genuinely wonder what the word on the street will be when Snerri becomes a Runelord in her own right. Snorri, Fjolla and Snerri all technically from the same branch of the family. Technically dilute blood relation and they all are or probably will be Runelords of considerable skill. Fjolla was a prodigy that comes around rarely. Snerri was damn near good enough the Ancestor God of Runesmiths was gonna sit up and take notice.

At what point does the general consensus change from 'thin blood' to 'probably blessed by Thungi somewhere in the recent centuries'?

If I do this it wont have too many numbers, It'd be mostly detail oriented. Maybe gimme like a week or two? I'd probably be working on this while a vote is happening. Something to note though, thanks for your input :^)

You'll never say it to her face until she's won the right to Masterhood from you.

So can a Journeyman only become a Master once their Master names them one? Or is that just the normal way of doing it?

Yeh.

Yer niece is Guuuud

I don't know why, but I can't get the idea out of my head that the guy that makes Anvils of Doom making the first one as a way to impress enough so that he can marry her.

Big question is if she'd be the one that needs to be impressed, or if Snorri and her two Senpai* are.

*I feel like a total weeb for using that unironically, but there really isn't a better word in English for it.

Question: If we'd like to do some testing to figure out some runic combos that don't involve master runes, would that be a research action, or do we have to experiment using requests?
From a system standpoint, write in requests are the most straightforward way to test out what we might think are runic combos. Everything is there to just have us go "Item, with X, Y, Z Runes," by making Write In Difficult Requests. Several like that Warhorn @Abhishek M suggested many pages ago are already floating around.

Testing out combos on write in requests or even just story generated difficult requests would give the Dwarfs workable magic items. It does make disharmonious combos ala sticking a fire and frost rune on the same thing more fraught, but those were pretty heavily disincentivized anyway even if its easier to come up with any set of runes that are disharmonious than harmonious. And that's just because harmony/being able to string together concepts smoothly is easier to wrap our heads around.

Plus there's a distinctly Runelord-esque/Dwarf-esque trend to go for Combos that we have a good idea might work, stuff that's straightforward like Master Rune of Dismay, Rune of Amplification or Rune of Challenge, and Rune of Spellbreaking on a Warhorn or whatever.

A combo I think might be interesting to have on a suit of armour would basically boil down to Master Rune of Challenge + Rune of Taunting + Rune of Smiting.

Tweak them so they're on a suit of Gromril armour and you've got someone basically walking around telling people to put up or shut up. And then there's a chance sub par weapons would just break on the suit of armour.

Basically, Khorne in runic form. Demanding martial excellence otherwise he bearer would die messily from all of the

@soulcake

I'm curious, considering Snerra's prodigious skill with Runes, after she becomes a Journeyman under us, is there still a chance she could catch the eye of Thungni and get some tutelage under him?
