No no, don't, that way lies madness. Trust me, binging 6000 pages is a herculean task. I got to 3000 myself and ended up reading the story thread from there on, since it took the better part of a year.
I made it to about 3400 before breaking personally. Granted this is mostly because I was stuck in an airport at the time and life was madness anyways (the Denver airport is a witch's barrier I swear. That or it's actually feathers. I have slept there three times and that is three times too many).

Granted the story itself is something of a door stopper anyways. Really reading the entire thing in one go was... the best worst idea I've ever had.

...I'm all for introducing Kirika and Oriko to Sayaka's mother. I don't know how much of her personality is fanon but it would probably be a glorious train wreck to watch.

So, I've been thinking... @Onmur @Godwinson @Kaizuki

The Kures need more friends. While the Pleiades Saints would make good candidates, they're a bit too far for it to work in the short-term.

Asking Sayaka or Hitomi is out for the time being, for obvious reasons. Homura wouldn't let Madoka anywhere near them. And Homura herself...yeah.

So: Mami. Let's ask Mami to try to befriend them. We can also explain to her how we view them, and how they've grown as people in the time we've known them, to give her some needed context. There's a lot of potential there, and a lot of synergy--Sabrina and Mami are almost eerily similar to Oriko and Kirika, as couples and dynamics go. Kirika is very romantic, which Mami undoubtedly appreciates--and we can explain to Mami how interacting with Oriko goes from frustrating to pleasant once you get used to her quirks and get comfortable with each other.

---

And another, more important thing: Homura has recently (and repeatedly) expressed doubts about the success (and apparent lack thereof) of her own efforts in comparison to ours, and I feel like we need to do a better job of addressing this issue before it develops into something truly nasty/problematic. One point to emphasize is that our efforts build off of her own, and always have: ours might seem more impressive at a glance, but Homura's efforts have laid the foundation for all of our own work. We have the freedom to take bold, ambitious steps along with patient, slow steps because Homura is always effectively covering the essential bases.

And another point to emphasize with her: her efforts have been more successful than she is giving herself credit for. Her loops directly resulted in us--Sabrina--so everything we've accomplished is at least somewhat owed to her own efforts and perseverance. And drive home our own gratitude towards her for our very existence. Our very life is thanks to her and Madoka--everything we've ever experienced, every good memory, every hug, every friend we've made, it's indescribably precious to us, and we owe to her for all of it.

I think we've been changing Mami's mind about O&K over time. There was that time before we went to Sendai where Mami accused Oriko of trying to kill Sabrina by proxy... nowadays Mami's willing to give them a chance, if only for our sake.

This reminds me... we might want to talk with Mami about everything O&K related today, explain how they've developed... and that we're officially friends now... not just to open the way for Mami to consider frienship with O&K, but so Mami can help us make sure Homu doesn't explode when we tell her about Oriko's new powers??? Because daaaayum.

As far as Homura's concerned... I agree, too, but it's complicated. We can't quite pull the "we're here thanks to your efforts" card because it's kind of attached to the Potential Bomb, or at least to the Madowish, and I'd hazard a guess Homu won't be truly happy about that, simply because (I think) she wants Madoka powerless and under her protection. Supporting quote from PMAS:

"I-" Homura's jaw clenches, voice tight with restrained emotion. "I don't want her near this. She asked me to keep her away from being a magical girl, she needs to be protected from this."
And how far we've got with Homura on this:
"I'm fighting for her," she whispers. "I... if we win. It doesn't matter."
We still got a lot of work to do.

It's not too late for Sayaka to burn down Oriko's house.

Would tie up some loose ends. Empty lots are easy to sell.
Well, we could make it a bonding experience.

Also, since we're gonna be in contact with Mika's dad, owner of Nakano Construction Company... maybe we should ask Oriko if she wants to sell the whole place?

Responding to this seriously, if we take a "washing our hands of it" option, I'll point out that there is the Sadness Prayer route of just giving it to Oriko's uncle Kimihide.
But Kimihide's a shit. :p

Could I get some votes going, by the by? I'd like to try updating on Thursday or so this week.

(Key word being try. *grumble*)
[] Choose one destination:
- [] Head out to meet Yuki
-- [] Talking Anri
--- [] What about?
-- [] Therapists
--- [] How?
-- [] Share meguca contact information
- [] Head out to meet Kyouko
-- [] Meet up for an early breakfast
--- [] What do you want to talk about?
[] Write-in (word count limit: 150 words)

It's still earlier than I thought.

Don't have much time right now so throwing ideas:

[X] Ask O&K what they're planning to do with the lot. If they wanted to sell it, we're gonna get in contact with Nakano company soon...

must... resist... voting for... more hugs... as goodbye... Actually, I don't think we did this...

-[X] You'll ask Mami and try and invite them over for dinner at some point.
--[X] ??? And you wouldn't refuse if they ever want to invite you over...

[X] Call and meet up with Kyouko.
-[X] Early breakfast.
-[X] (Mind she might not want Yuma around for this: ) Talk about the church.
--[X] Find Kyouko's thoughts about it.
--[X] Don't budge from the position she doesn't owe you for it. You're meguca mother teresa, remember?
---[X] ???? If she insists, ask for her friendship.

Making lots of friends today :V ?

Also we probably should plan to get hugs from Kyouko and Yuma. Or at least from Yuma.

My plan for the day was to do this, have lunch with Mami* and everyone, go to Fukushima and talk with Yuki and Anri**, then come back and see whether Sayaka decided to get bombed or not after school.

* And after these last few updates, I'd now like to tell Mami all about the progress we've been doing with Oriko. We could perhaps use her support in breaking the news or Oriko's new powers to Homura (and Sayaka and everyone).

** At some point after talking with Anri, perhaps call Hijiri again to check up on her.

Done.
"You know, if you hadn't looped, and Madoka hadn't made her Wish, I wouldn't be here?" you half-explain, half-ask.

"You're... welcome?" Homura says, head tilting in the other direction.

You giggle. "I suppose that makes you and Madoka my mothers. Mado-kaa-san has a certain ring to it, don't you think?"

Homura's expression freezes.

"Um... Homura?" you prompt. No response.

... You're not absolutely sure she's breathing. True, you don't actually need to, but still.
Asking Sayaka or Hitomi is out for the time being, for obvious reasons. Homura wouldn't let Madoka anywhere near them. And Homura herself...yeah.
And anyone outside of the main group makes Homura suspicious that Oriko is building an army. Shiogama would be great, otherwise.

We got a Mami expert on board, but no Koko expert, do we? :thonk:

What can we expect from Kyouko? We already put off this conversation yesterday.

She's obviously gonna feel... aggressively indebted and waiting for the other shoe to drop? She's likely thinking about what we want from her for this favour, maybe even thinking we're trying to do something crazy, like reconciliating her with Mami. Crazy. And completely on the mark, but that's not something we can admit to yet, can we? :V

I'm not good with this voting thing, foreseeing things that will happen and preparing responses.

And I'm still certain we can't be entirely right to not bring up the fact Yuma's got grandparents who can take her in. :/

Not completely on the mark. We're never going to tell Kyoko "in exchange for this, make up with Mami." Reconciliation made under duress isn't really reconciliation. What we're doing is trying to get them both in a headspace where they're able to reconcile, or falling that no longer need to.

[x] Onmur

I remember someone raising concerns over whether Kyoko would be awake when we try to contact her, and while it's kinds minor I had an idea for how to address that. When was the last time we woke Kyoko up, again? I can't remember, but based on how that went this idea may or may not work.

Basically, instead of telepathy-ing Kyoko, we telepathy Yuma and ask if Kyoko's awake. If she is, then we telepathy her, no risk, and if not... maybe ask Yuma to wake her up, and have Best Hugger tell Best Grill that we're ready to telepathy whenever she's ready? That would probably go over better than just waking her up with telepathy.

But if Yuma's not awake... well, she'll probably react better than Kyoko? Besides, kids her age tend to wake up pretty early, especially compared to teenagers like Kyoko. When I was Yuma's age, I would wake up at 6:00 every morning... kids are weird, yo.

Had thoughts. Explanations at the bottom. Expect disagreements. I usually do. :V

[X] Telepathy Secretary Yuma and set up a breakfast meeting with Kyouko.
-[X] Prime some Grief for later.

[X] Ask O&K what they're planning to do with the lot.
-[X] Does it belong to them?
-[X] Mention your connection with Nakano company. Why uproot the bushes when you could sell and watch the whole place get demolished?

[X] Tell O&K you'd like to invite them over for dinner at some point... and wouldn't refuse if they invited you.

[X] Before going, ask them to remind you to clear up the 'amnesia' thing next time you talk in private.

[X] Meet up with Kyouko and Yuma.

[X] Early breakfast. Check how they're doing.

[X] In private with Kyouko: Talk about the church.
-[X] Mantain your position of wanting to help people, because you can. Meguca mother Teresa, right?
-[X] If she wants to repay you, she can keep looking after Yuma, and just be your friend.

[X] If friendship is secured: Ask Kyouko if she can keep a secret.
-[X] Privacy Field.
-[X] Metabomb Kyouko.
--[X] Explain you knew about her and Yuma.
--[X] This doesn't change anything regarding Kyouko.
--[X] Yuma... there's a lot to talk about, her past and future.

Contacting Yuma instead of Kyouko is good. We might need some primed Grief later (this might be controversial)*.

Oriko and Kirika:
- Mention possibility of selling the lot, easing up the process when we go have that interview with the head honcho Nakano.
- Gossip, dinner, friendship stuff.
- Pity we didn't think of this before dismissing the Field, but I believe Oriko is still under the impression that we have amnesia... :V. Might want to clear that up, but do we have time to make another privacy field now? It might be more comfortable to clear this up another time.

Kyouko:
- Stick to our halpin everyone guns.
- Ominously (?) make friendship agreements. This unlocks Kyouko the special event. Metabomb! *

Now, I don't think we've actually decided whether to Metabomb Kyouko or not, but... Yuma needs help. Yuma needs psychological help about how her shit mother treated her, help with her abandonement issues, and needs to go to school, and needs to learn that it's OK to be selfish, and maybe needs to call her grandparents so she can have adults to look after her. Kyouko is great, but not an adult.

But before talking about all this, we kind of need to explain the Metabomb, to explain how we know about it all.

Eh, he gets better and Oriko makes her peace with him.

I like the idea of asking what they do with the place, but I'm really not comfortable in the idea of demolishing the whole place, or asking about it, unless they raise the idea themselves.

Yeah, not being able to plan out the conversation is a problem. I think the right answer here is not getting too far into it all. Let he bring up what she's going to (Which may be the church and may be something else entirely.)

The metabomb must be lead into right. We cannot repeat the mistakes of talking it over with Mami.

Personally, I want to acknowledge that she feels indebted to us and I feel like it's a good lead in to the metabomb: That we don't think we can accept her obligation even if we were the type, since she didn't know who she was giving it to.

I kinda of want to structure it like, "We're pretty sure we were created artificially and whoever did that gave us knowledge about people around Mitakihara and events that were going to happen. Unfortunately, that person either didn't, or couldn't, really consider much about the invasiveness of it all."

But these things should be written in the moment. Right now we don't really have a good picture of what the conversation will be like and I don't think we can plan it out until we actually get there.

Anyways...

[X] Ask the Kures if they have any preferences for what happens to the mansion after they leave.
-[X] Don't suggest demolishing it unless they raise the idea themselves.

[X] Feed Aurora some magic. Experiment with whether the magic you feed her can be infused with sensations and not just memories.
-[X] Uproot a rosebush and replant it upside down while feeding the image to Aurora.

[X] Call Yuma, Ask her if this is a good time to visit Kyouko.
-[X] Kyouko had some stuff she wanted to talk about with you
-[X] And you have some stuff to talk about too. (prep for metabomb lead in)

[X] Have some enchanted grief ready for a privacy field.

[X] Meet up with Kyouko and Yuma, acquire breakfast, check how they're doing, talk about her thing.

---------------------------

As far as Yuma goes... No. Not like this. I feel that trying to raise that topic right now would just come off as lecturing Kyouko on childcare for Yuma's own good and also breach Yuma's privacy. If she wants to or did talk to Kyouko about her past, great. But if not its not ours to broach between the two of them.

Specifically not betraying people's (involuntary) confidence with us strikes me as something really, really important to keeping the metabomb from being a disaster.

While I see your points, I disagree with your blatant butchery of the O&K fluff. :V

[X] O&K fluff options:
-[X] Ask what are their plans for the mansion.
-[X] Talk about plans to have dinner together.
-[X] Clear up the 'amnesia' thing... the tea was nice, though.

Remember Oriko's been feeding us green tea to help our memory? :V Not that our memory couldn't use the help...

[X] Feed Aurora magic.
-[X] While thinking about friendship.
-[X] Wreck the rosebushes while you're at it.

[X] Prime enough Grief for a Privacy Field.

[X] Telepathy Yuma.
-[X] Set up a breakfast meeting with Kyouko; she wants to talk with you, and you with her.

but I'm really not comfortable in the idea of demolishing the whole place
Why does that make you uncomfortable? Oriko's going to be somewhere between ambivalent about it and wanting to swing the ball herself, and if you're personally interested in the land being used as-is after sale wrecking the bushes seems counterproductive.
and wouldn't refuse if they invited you.
Too pushy. Glad you removed it. I think implying it in your new vote is also too pushy.

So we're doing all this while with the Kures, judging by the gradual rose bush wrecking and calling Yuma after? Because we could easily save time in the day by doing those things during and after telepathic conversation instead of before.

Just realizing I hadn't actually posted this, hours after writing it. :V

But but but memetically shoving friendship down everyone's throats... :/

OK, maybe it's too pushy. And maybe ask Mami first before saying anything about possibly maybe inviting O&K over in the faaaaar (hopefully not far) future.

Also yes, I think I had the Yuma telepathy first earlier, don't know why I moved it down.

Well, I'm the one wondering if it can be use housing magical girls or as an administration center for such, and haven't been dissuaded from that thought.

And I normally wouldn't do anything to the bushes, but Oriko specifically mentioned she wouldn't mind seeing all the bushes gone, so her express wishes trump my natural impulses here.

Not really done. We dropped the Momura bombshell on her in almost the same sentence.

And it bears re-emphasizing regardless.
My question on the matter is the value of raising our alternate ending timelines to her. Not all of it would be useful, no, but stuff like the PSP golden timeline could show her that she could indeed succeed without us. She just needs the right information and strategy.

Yes, folks have been worried about even raising the possibility of future timelines to her, but given the way she talked when we told her about Sayaka, I think the "future timeline" worries are far more our worries than hers. A lot of her comments and thoughts there read to me like they were kinda pointed to the idea of her thinking about and planning for the next loop.

Just realizing I hadn't actually posted this, hours after writing it. :V

I think this vote needs more talk of the intent behind the actions. For one thing, I have no idea what the amnesiac thing you're talking about is here. It's really not clear.

Likewise removing the note of feeding Aurora sensation makes it really unclear how that connects to the rosebushes at all.

(Honestly, now that my memory is loaded back up, I'd like to feed Aurora the taste of ice cream, the sounds and emotion of music, or the feeling of flying, but the former two are a bit situational.)

[X] The Kures

-[X] Experiment a bit, try to feed Aurora sensation: How it looks and feels to uproot a rosebush with grief, and the sights and feelings of flying over Mitakihara towards Kasamino.

There was a lot of spare space in the vote so... I used it. This should clarify my own intentions in the vote.

"When I started to reject my magic, when I didn't realise what I wanted, what I Wished for," Oriko says.

"Exactly that," you say. You can't help but shake your head a little, rueful. "I... you know what? I'll just sidetrack a bit here. I'm... really impressed and glad that you can just say that out loud, considering that it's, uh, just about repudiating everything you used to think."

"I had help getting here," Oriko says. "From Kirika, and from... from my friend." She turns a meaningful look on you.

And you beam at her, bright and happy.
Would this be a feeling to feed to Aurora? :V

[Q] Think of Oriko admitting she was wrong AND admitting someone as a friend
-[Q] Feed feelings to Aurora.
--[Q] Aurora's Seed spontaneouly morphs and turns into a doge.
---[Q] Aurora: "Wow"

"But-"

Kirika baps Oriko on the nose.

"No self-sacrificing," Kirika says.

"That's not what I meant, dear," Oriko says, laughing. "But... Sabrina, you might have decided as such, but your friends still view me as hostile."
Also, this is good.

Kirika being Best aside, Oriko is basically saying that everyone but Kirika and Sabrina... not liking Oriko (in varying quantities of 'not liking') is problem. As in, something to be solved, to change.

All that time and frustration at Oriko's Orikoness finally paying off.

"Eh, we really don't have manacles around here, you know," Kirika says. "There's no hidden dungeons or anything here, which I always thought was kiiiinda disappointing. Big mansion like this, practically a castle, but no dungeons. Oriko helped me look!"

Oriko pats Kirika's cheek fondly as the black haired girl pouts.
You know, O&K must have been reaaaaaally bored. Actually imagine them going through the whole mansion looking for secrets corridos and such. :V

The tea thing was... Back when we first captured Oriko, we asked if she knew why we had amnesia. later on, we came to think we don't have amnesia, but we didn't tell Oriko that. Usually when we drop by, Oriko serves us green tea she says is good for the memory.

O&K know enough about the Metabomb, so we don't need to go into detail, and I thought maybe we should have cleared this up by now.

Well, I'm the one wondering if it can be use housing magical girls or as an administration center for such, and haven't been dissuaded from that thought.
I mean, I'm with you, but it seemed like a separate objection from the sale, and even if Oriko does settle on giving us her land there's plenty of better ways to do those things than a mansion.
Usually when we drop by, Oriko serves us green tea she says is good for the memory.
I'm pretty sure that's just her making fun of us.
