The Redshirt vote seems okay, but it's less... vent-y. We still vent, of course, but it's less 'screaming about our frustrations' and more 'you know, this really sucks'. Also, no inviting Homura to vent.

I can adjust the wording on the "Give her space to talk too" to more explicitly give Homura an opening to share her own frustrations.

As for the rest... Sabrina really just isn't a "scream about your frustration" type of person, especially since we as the thread really have cooled off since yesterday IC.

If we were doing this talk with Homu right on the heels of the Rionna situation, I might take the venting as genuine, but I think right now what Sabrina truly feels isn't hot anger so much as smouldering resentment.

It's probably going to be more of an annoyed grumbling session followed by a reaffirmation of the fact that Sabrina can't not help people. Not in an unhealthy way (well sort of right now) but more in a Discworld witch somebody has to do it and I'm the one with the power sort of way. Sabrina isn't exactly like that but it seems close.

I think that, once the actual venting starts, Sabrina's will get more emotional. It wouldn't be a result of the thread, really, more of a "I'm talking about things that frustrate me, so I'm getting emotional", but I do think you have a point. My write-In is going for "smouldering, frustrated resentment of our situation morphing into anger", but I'll probably be re-wording a few bits.

We did have a whole time of letting ourselves feel tired and being supported by Sayaka, Mami, and Homura. Got group hugs, and all.

That might not have been all of it, but we literally did get to vent about Riona, didn't we?

If the venting got glossed over and didn't happen "on screen", then given the way Sabrina's emotions are linked to the thread, did it really happen at all? :thonk:

While it wasn't venting exactly, it was onscreen, and we got pretty much all the comfort.

This is a part of that before taking down Rionxa. Only a part, it was a pretty long scene of Sabrina feeling down and letting her friends support her.
"I... yeah," you say, smiling at her and forcing yourself to relax. "Just... it's been frustrating and upsetting. I still don't understand her, and I'm kind of worried about just taking her down like that." You snap your fingers for emphasis. "She's... she's a monster, but... I feel like I don't have the right to simply be judge, jury, and executioner."

"Judge and jury," Homura corrects, eyes on you. "You're not killing her, are you?"

"I... well, no," you say. "Just putting her in an indefinite coma."

"Orrrrr put her in jail," Sayaka says. "Not that hard."

"She's a monster," you say, rubbing your forehead. "I mean... yeah. It's so weird. It was such a weird encounter and kind of, I don't know... I don't really know what to think."

"Oh, for-" Sayaka rolls her eyes. "Mami, hug her."

Mami does exactly that, wrapping her arms around you, and a moment later, Sayaka joins the hug. "Oi, Homura, get over here."

There's a moment of hesitation and some rustling, and then Homura joins you. Very awkwardly.

"I..." you close your eyes, leaning into the contact. "Thanks, guys."

Then we also had a scene of everyone supporting Sabrina while she expressed her fears and frustrations after taking down Rionx^2a, at Oriko's place. Even Homu offered emotional support.

Nicely enough, we managed to include O&K on our group of friends, pretty much:
"Thank you, everyone," you say, straightening and meeting everyone's eyes in turn. "Homura, Sayaka, Oriko, Kirika, and Mami - thank you all. Without your help, this could have gone so very badly, and... thank you for your advice. This situation has been a mess for me, and I'm grateful for your help."

Alright, I changed some wording in the vote. We got comforted by all our friends, which certainly helped, but again, we never really dealt with all that. We spoke about our Rionna worries and got comforted, but we never vented, especially not about things we can't really say to everyone.

[x] Head out to school
--[x] Have fun with your friends.

[x] Don't prompt Sayaka about her decision. Don't mention it unless she brings it up.
--[x] If she does, talk to her privately and cut to voting.

[x] Go shopping with Homura
--[x] Ask if you can vent to her. Clarify you just want someone to hear you out, and she's your closest confident.
--[x] Vent to her. Get all your frustrations out. Your frustration with Rionna and girls like her who refuse to listen to you, your frustration with having to tiptoe around your friends, everything.
--[x] And to make things worse, any attempt to solve those issues would probably blow up in your face! You don't want to tiptoe around Mami and Madoka and the others, but witchbombing them is even worse. You want magical girls to listen to you, but if you force them to do what you say then you'll end up a tyrant. You can't do anything!
--[x] If she seems overwhelmed at any point, slow down.
--[x] Don't mention the PotentialBomb, Homucifer, Madokami, or other topics you don't want to tell Homura right now.

[x] Invite Homura to share her frustrations, and comfort her accordingly.

Fake edit: Yeah, we never got the chance to vent. I really think this would be healthy, for Sabrina, for Homura, and even for us.

The differences between Chungus's vote and mine are pretty small, especially considering that it's pretty unlikely that we're going to get through the whole Homura shopping trip in one update - I'm mostly including the other actions on the off chance that Homura doesn't want to go shopping yet, and as a vote-in-abeyance marker for important stuff to do today we shouldn't forget.

If it's possible, I'd like to end up with a vote merger with @Lord Chungus , since it looks like we're on a trajectory to merge right now anyway.

--[x] Once Kyoko's awake, arrange to meet up early enough to return for to school for lunch.

This bit. The whole point of this exercise is to get the biggest frustrations we have off our chest, and I'm... not sure that those things would be my biggest frustrations.

This is something where I think it's best to stick to intent voting and for Firnagzen to apply Brinapilot/ generally address the biggest IC concerns that have driven the thread recently.

I don't really want to discuss what in particular is the biggest gripe for each individual poster either - bringing up all those issues in a flood of posting is a sure fire way to bring the mood of the thread down, which is the opposite of the point of this whole exercise.

Honestly, this looks good. To nitpick, I'd change:

I worry that if we just give Homura a chance to vent, she may decide that we don't need to hear her problems, or something similar that could be avoided by outright inviting her to vent. Other than that little bit, it look good.

Also yeah, I probably should have been more focused on tone rather than specifics for my write-in chunk. Trust in the Brina-Pilot :p

Hmm. Care to clarify that? The thread consensus so far seems to be that it'd be better to cool off a bit before going right back into the heavy topics, but it's valuable to hear other opinions.
It's less that I think it needs to be done right now, and more of a show of support for the idea of addressing the matter sooner rather than later. After all, the vote is 12 to 2 even with my vote, so I know it ain't exactly threatening to tip the vote.

Hmm. Care to clarify that? The thread consensus so far seems to be that it'd be better to cool off a bit before going right back into the heavy topics, but it's valuable to hear other opinions.

I cannot agree with that on the topic of asking about last loop.

For starters, it's not going to be heavy for us, it's going to be heavy for her. So, that entire argument is a nonstarter on our end.

Her day yesterday consisted of putting down a hostile she had no connection to whatsoever and attending a club. As far as Homura is ever going to be "okay," she's okay for this right now.

Lastly, let me just trot this out for everyone to read and remember.

OK, so...

You know, I'm not that fussy.

Second, because I apparently have to be explicit about it: Yes, it's a warning. Things Will Happen if Homura learns that she is causing Madoka's potential to increase. Doubly so if Kyuubey finds the right time to strike, granted. It will not bad end the Quest, not just yet, but Things Will Happen. I've scattered hints and foreshadowing as to what those things are already, and as far as I can tell, no one's guessed it yet.

If you still want to do it, I can work with that, because I have contingencies for everything. Hell, in some ways, it'd be fun for me.

But be aware that it'd be a massive shift in the status quo.

*spreads arms wide open*

As I like to point out, Firnagzen has said that finding the things hidden in the quest is The Way To Succeed At The Quest.

The question is: what is this?

You can make whatever conjectures you want about how the potentialbomb affects Homura in canon, and yet, we essentially have QM's word that whatever manner it affects Homura in here in PMAS is at least so unobvious that, minimum, nobody had figured it out in mid-2017, and given how little theorizing has been done about it since I expect it remains unknown. That means it affects Homura differently from in canon, because that'd be the most obvious possibility, a bloody null hypothesis, the thing we were running on when we decided to potentialbomb Homura right up until Firn told us not to do it.

WHY?

There is a whole set of giant bloody neon lights here saying "FIGURE THIS OUT." Whatever this is, it's somehow central to the quest in a way nobody here even fathoms as of yet. Oriko once told us that as long as we and Homura are OK by WPN we haven't lost. Homura is at the center of the plot, and whatever this is, it's somehow a key difference between PMAS!Homura and canon!Homura. And the only difference we know of between PMAS!Homura and canon!Homura thus far is last loop, so... that's where we're going to have to start looking, as far as anyone I know has suggested.

I'm sorry if people have taken this as anything other than a QUEST IMPERATIVE -- MUST TAKE THIS ACTION sort of thing. I know the votes I've been making lately have focused on other things, and I know that people are a little leery of the Big Stuff at the moment or whatever, but... This is actually mission critical. I honestly didn't want to wait as long as we have before asking these questions. I promise that it won't read like some horrible thing. There'll be lots of comforting Homura and some nice hurt/comfort vibes and then we'll go monkeyloot some tanks.

But... this needs to happen. And something I'm afraid of is, because it's quite hard to understand at a glance why "ask Homura about the events of last loop" is at all related to a QUEST IMPERATIVE -- MUST TAKE THIS ACTION, I do worry that it will keep getting postponed. It's already somehow managed to get postponed for, uh... FOUR ENTIRE IN-CHARACTER DAYS, as a QUEST IMPERATIVE.

TL;DR

I will understand it if people suggest that we could do it later in the day and state that they would prefer to do this other stuff now.

I will understand it -- but I cannot agree with it, because postponing this further is...

It's a bad idea on the level of a Bad Damn Idea.

...

*rubs face*

I'm doing a shitty job of actually explaining things again while throwing around lots of emphases and exclamations, aren't I. Lemme go shower and I'll try again.

...

and Vebyast, I know you're gonna come in here and read this, okay? This is your reminder not to get too drastically upset about it. I love you. You're great. But the proper manner of addressing this is to clearly and convincingly explain our position: we are right, and if we say the correct words everything will go just fine.
