Now that Onmur has a vote, here's another tally.
Adhoc vote count started by Conjured Blade on Sep 2, 2018 at 3:35 PM, finished with 272 posts and 23 votes.

  • [X] Brinapilot.
    -[X] Regain patience.
--[X] If Riona's patience stretches thin, intersperse secondary topics.
    -[X] Dig at Riona's reasons.*
[X] Offer and (ask Mami to) get refreshments. Don't leave the bubble nor stop talking.
    [X] Answer:
-[X] It's not about taking away. Your goal is to give her, everyone, a chance to do better.
[X] (Brinapilot, don't just list terms.) Look for compromise.
    -[X] No more killing.
-[X] You'll help fix her reason to 'need' an undead army. Then she'll release them.
    --[X] Acknowledge exceptions:
    ---[X] Volunteers? Fine.
---[X] Anyone she wanted to revive? You'll help.
[X] If she won't share her goal, ask after her underlying reasons. *
-[X] What's her motivation? What can she share?
    [X] Secondary topics:
    -[X] De-Witching.
    --[X] Let Riona examine Aurora.
--[X] Explain your experiments so far.
    -[X] Ask after her powers.
--[X] What does your Soul look like?
-[X] Wish rejection: describe Oriko's symptoms.
    [x] Plan:
-[x] She'd be unwilling to give up her sister's shade and you think she might be equally unwilling to reveal that she has it.
-[x] You'll make a stab in the dark about her power's origin and use it as grounds for giving her a way out.
-[x] Make an offer that would let her keep her sister's shade without talking about it.
-[x] Note that, if she is holding her sister's shade, she's likely denying the ethical implications of her actions out of self-defense.
[x] She won't release her wraiths now, fine. And you won't deny her her home or safety. But would she really keep those souls trapped if it became unnecessary?
[x] You want Rionna to stop murdering people, and if any of her shades are suffering you want that stopped.
[x] But. But. You can't think of many ways a girl gets a power like Rionna's.
[x] If there are any shades that she needs to keep, and she doesn't want to explain who they are or why she needs them... you won't ask questions, and she'll have full access to your research network.
[x] Does that sound like what she needs?
[X] Show her the Clear Seed. Explain what she's seeing: the sheer capacity, the quiescent nature of the witch, the way it absorbs hope magic.
-[x] And this is just a stopgap measure to keep everyone's gem clean while we create a real solution.
[x] If she wants cleansing and dewitching, then the only way that it's going to be possible is by working with us.
-[x] As she's said, everybody's tried but nobody's been able to... until now.
--[x] And if there's something else she wants, we can make that possible, too.
---[X]No guarantees, obviously, we're powerful not omnipotent, but we can't negotiate when any attempt at finding out what she actually wants is stonewalled with variations of "None of your business/not giving up my power/your soul", the latter of which she has to know isn't going to happen.
    [X] Sabrina-Pilot on key points
-[X] Acknowledge that asking her to reject the powers of her Wish is a huge thing, and she probably had good reasons for seeking such power. Mention that even if we're unable to deliver fully, we'll still understand if she has a special shade or two she /cant/ release because its too important. That's something we'd obviously be fine with until a better solution appears even if we reject the idea of holding other hostiles and innocents in stasis.
-[X] If she doesn't want our help, fine, put that aside a moment. Acknowledge lack of detail to our promises. Bring out special Clear Seeds (happy-grief and quiescent ones, at least) , mention tests and ask opinion on results thus far. Is this at least any better than other attempts she's aware of? Can she do that at least that much considering she isn't going to get anything productive out of this trip otherwise?
[x] Okay. Then I guess thats it.
-[x]One thing, do you know anyone else I can contact with soul related abilities? Since you won't help me and I need input on it with my research team.
-[x] As she's said, everybody's tried but nobody's been able to... until now.
--[x] And if there's something else she wants, we can probably make that possible, too.
    [X] gem her
    [X] Sabrina-Pilot on key points
-[X] Acknowledge that asking her to reject the powers of her Wish is a huge thing, and she probably had good reasons for it. Mention that even if our offered help witht he problem isn't enough, we still understand she might have a special shade or two she /cant/ release because its too important. Thats something we'd obviously be fine with until a better solution appears even if we reject the idea of holding other hostiles and innocents in stasis.

Can she at least offer that much if she doesn't want anything from us after this long trip?
[X]In that case there's only one way left for us to avoid a fight.
-[X]I need to see some of your shades so I know they aren't suffering for myself.
-[X]Once I've confirmed that they aren't suffering, you invite me to your future hunts for Magical Girls. All of them. You let me know their crimes beforehand and the basis for your knowledge. You cease hunting normal people. You let me grant your targets the opportunity to take a clear seed and should they wish it, a free flight to Mitakihara in exchange for sinning no more.
-[X]If they reject the offer, their souls are yours. If they sin again in my territory their gems get separated from their bodies and their bodies cryogenically frozen. Or they end up prisoners of an associate of mine who controls buildings. If they sin again outside my territory their souls are yours.
-[x]If Riona asks why: A majority of her targets sound like people you would want to talk to anyways and this enables you to save more of their victims, compared to if you need to track the people she'd target down from scratch after sealing her gem in an anti-magic box and freezing her body. The problem is that as that as this conversation indicates, you suck at negotiation. You're hoping having her waiting in the wings will make this process easier.
-[x]In addition to my combat skills(I've got a recording of a sparring match I had with that building controller if you need a demonstration) to compensate for the increased difficulty, I am prepared to offer hypersonic transportation and cleansing should you accept these terms, and a clear seed after the first hunt we make together.
-[x]Any questions or do we have a deal?
    [X] Null

Why a boat, though?

...

... This is our very real failure!

[Q] Ditch Riona, get on maiding.

To be honest, I've been hoping for some more Brinapiloting for this conv. There's only so much we can react to from this side. I think I tried asking for it at some point, but I wouldn't blame Firn for missing a post in a deluge of posts.

I'm gonna update my vote for now, since at the very least it should be a straight up upgrade from the previous one:

Added some lines with 'Doubt' instead of 'X' in them to say, I'm not certain about them, so they're not part of the vote, but I think they're something to think about.

[X] Brinapilot.
-[X] Regain patience.
-[Doubt] Keep insisting you want to help.
--[X] If Riona's patience stretches thin, intersperse secondary topics.
-[X] Dig at Riona's reasons.*
-[Doubt] Call Riona on her baiting. Still be the better woman.

[X] Offer and (ask Mami to) get refreshments. Don't leave the bubble nor stop talking.

[X] Answer:
-[X] It's not about taking away. Your goal is to give her, everyone, a chance to do better.
-[Doubt] Killing and using people's actual Souls. Nobody deserves that. Is this what she wants to be?

[X] (Brinapilot, don't just list terms.) Look for compromise.
-[X] No more killing.
-[X] You'll help fix her reason to 'need' an undead army. Then she'll release them.
--[X] Acknowledge exceptions:
---[X] Volunteers? Fine.

-[X] Wish rejection: describe Oriko's symptoms.
Because its how you get into boating.

You know, if Madoka is the dense harem protagonist, maybe we should focus on getting her to be less dense along with (or even instead of) getting Homura to open up. We just need to get Madoka to realize she likes Homura - how hard can it be?

On an unrelated note, how often do you think Homura has to dive into time-stop to vent off some steam because of us?

So I've been watching some of the speedrunnning history videos lately, most notably the first video of the Super Mario Sunshine history series and the new one and I'm struck by a PMAS relevant thought:

Just looking at this shows just how much these places are full communities in their own right. Even without PMAS's world and history being "the same but fuller" than our world, stuff like this shows just how much larger and deeper the world's history is than it was thousands or even hundreds of years ago.

And so I wonder how many magical girls owe their potential to stuff like the speedrunning community, or other places on the internet.

I wonder if something like that is where Inoue Yuuki got her potential. And likewise, how many other girls might have potential because of things like this.

If we're still contributing meta talk about the thread, my sole excuse is that the thing flies past at sixteen pages a femptosecond and I have neither the time nor patience to shift through dozens of pages of vitriol and arguing back and forth about highly entrenched voting choices.

The thread had/has both a culture and a backlog that makes it unforgiving to new readers. The current situation re:Roomba Riona is also a difficult situation that clearly has caused people to double down on the trench warfare voting.

But if we're moving past that then I'm down to continue lurking and contributing approximately once every six months, I guess.

EDIT: Riona is not a robot vacuum cleaner. Probably.

Oh, I've been meaning to do this for a while:

Character Sheet
It's been done before, but when did that stop me?

Bio

Name: Sabrina Brina Akemi-Kaname Tomoe Vee

Age:
Physically:
15
Chronologically: two weeks and counting
Mentally: Approximately 5
Potentially: Eternal

Race: Mahou Shoujo, subtype 1.

Likes: Mami, Hugs, Homura, her friends in general, Hope, microwaved tea
Dislikes: Hard Girls Making Hard Decisions ( While Hard ), Urobuchi, Feathers

Birthday: ? ( March 26th? May 1st? Outside of Time and Space? )

Traits

Must... Hug... Mumi: While in the vicinity, Sabrina Vee and Mami Tomoe are considered a joint unit... literally. Any rolls on cooperation automatically pass checks. Critical success applies overflow twice. May reroll on critical failure until success.

Homuno: +5 to Diplomacy rolls with Homura Akemi. Deep insight in her tortured psyche enables Sabrina to act as a ( temporary) psychotherapist in regards of allaying ( and potentially curing ) her psychological maluses.

Hivemind: Being an assertion of different individuals, Sabrina receives automatical +10 rolls to Lore, Engineering, Mechanical, Firearms, Mathematical- to all checks where specific knowledge of subject is required.
-Contentious Point: -3 to Diplomacy and Speech rolls while the Hivemind is in disagreement. Further decrease by 1 per "update", an uneven interval of time roughly 5 minutes long during conversations.
-Metaknowledge: is aware of Soul in a Gem, Fate of Majos, Karmic Balance, Madoka's Potential and The Rebellion. Has personal knowledge about several dozen people she has ( ostensibly ) never met before. May comprehend Witch Runic.

Karmic Imbalance ( AKA Adfligo Systema ):
On the other hand, her ability breaks the balance of Hope and Despair, with all the ensuing consequences.

Abilities

Mahou Shoujo:
May Transform. Has superhuman strength, endurance and reflexes. May count as either Alive or Undead at will.
Malus, Soul in a Gem: If the Gem is destroyed, instant death.
Malus, Fate of Majos: If the Gem is fully filled with Grief, becomes Mahou Shoujo, Subtype Two ( A Witch ).

I Wish
-Heir of Grief:
Controls Grief, as per her Wish. Nuff said.
Malus, Absolute Territory: Possibly due to being considered an extension of her body, Sabrina may only control Grief in a 100 meter radius.
Malus, Grieve No More: Mahou Shoujo, Subtype Two ( Dedolere ) is an ontological threat. May Madokami help us all.
—All Shall Love Me And Not Despair: May draw Grief out of Soul Gems. May draw Grief out of Grief Seeds.
—Dissoluzione Bianca: All Da Grief, Muthafucka! Which means that Sabrina may choose to enter a direct contest of wills with a Witch in order to metaphysically and literally rip her a new one. Sabrina usually wins.
—Prima Luce: Or "hellmurder fuckray". Laser beams, yay! Does roughly what one would expect. Maximum Befriending.
—Mobile Oppression Fortress: Sabrina May choose to transport an almost indefinite amount of people on a frictionless, colorless disc of Grief efforlessly moving in space and breaking every known physical law. ( limited by Malus, Absolute Territory )
—Wings of Fallen Angel: It runs in the family.
—Griefhax, Yo: Mild reality-warping powers. Restrictions subject to QM's headcanon.
—ChibiBrina: Sabrina, but Chibi. May apply for a full CloneBrina.
—Barrier Creation: Currently disabled. Makes it really implausible for Sabrina to claim not being a Witch.
—Enchantment, Grief: May Enchant Grief to apply it faster for her subsequent needs. May Enchant common objects to become malleable.
—Combination Attack, Cannone Picchio: Rapid Fire Tiro Finale. Requiescat in pace.
—Combination Attack, Mecha Gurren Zilla Lagann: Needs to be seen to believe, impossible to forget.

Fix-a-lot: Is the agent of change in the setting. Any situation she applies to can be brought to satisfaction of all parties, however implausible. ( Direct result of Madoka's I Wish, Fix Everything )

Gun Warfare: Is proficient with firearms. Probably hereditary.

A Punt: May Punt QBs. Fairly impressive.

Hammertime: Has a warhammer. Level of skill is barely adequate for a Mahou Shoujo, though still on par with a trained adult warrior at least.

Hammerspace: 4-dimensional shenanigans. Storage space. A small and snug pocket dimension where you can smuggle your ChibiBrinas for a subsequent hostile takeover of the world government via copious application of cute chibis making puppy eyes. And if that doesn't work, tickle them into submission.

I'll leave it right here.

*runs away*

So uh... Onmur's latest vote seems alright. I like Brinapilot with broad outlines here instead of specific focus points.

As I have been unable to discern any difference in the floofiness of cats and dogs (nor of cat-people and dog-people), I remain neutral on this issue. I much prefer to invest my time and energy in maximizing my production of fluffy, relaxing headpats.

On the vote: I'm quite unhappy with Onmur's vote. I think that trying to stall out the girl that just called us on trying to stall is guaranteed to fail. Even if it's not guaranteed to fail, since the only possibly outcomes are "success" and "Riona calls us on our bullshit", it commits us entirely to that one gambit.

On the research network clause of your vote...

[] Plan:
-[] She'd be unwilling to give up her sister's shade and you think she might be equally unwilling to reveal that she has it.

We aren't a database. Our research network is ourselves and Niko. She will give us information by virtue of asking us questions. She can ask us questions about our current knowledge of the system/grief science, ask us to try something and tell her the results, ask us for a clear seed for research and we won't probe as to why she asks? Is that what you're going for?

Edit: Maybe something about refer her targets to us for judgment if she cares about her vigilanteism so badly?

I have no idea how to word it as a vote BUT I think disengaging from the current topic (but not dropping it) and moving on to a more...business type dealing might be good? Basically we get something out of the current meeting and hopefully by getting information on the clear seeds and showing those we might be able to glean information. Really even if she does need to be dealt with I want to know why she has done everything she has done.

I doubt she will just tell us, but hopefully showing things like the clear seed and getting the information we want on their nature (especially the one with happy magic) will get her to ask for something in turn that can tell us about what we want to know.

But seriously I just want to know why ;____; (and get the clear seeds looked at which was the entire point of meeting her I thought)

edit: i also think a short concise vote that covers intentions and tone would be best then a longer one with conditionals.

Figured out how to condense my current vote.

[x]Offer cleansing
[x]Share your current research data on clear seeds. Even if you somehow can't help with her other research, you can give her a new lead there at least so she doesn't leave empty handed.
[x]Warn her about the possibility she will come into conflict with Sayaka Miki you got from a precog with a you shaped blind-spot, your interest in ensuring both of them have no reason to fight each other, and that Sayaka is worthless from the standpoint of acquiring your powers, as well as a decent person.
[x]Offer your skills to her hunts, conditional on you verifying her shades don't suffer/getting to make her targets a better offer/give them the opportunity to retire first.
[x]If necessary, sweeten the offer with a clear seed, preferably clearing one of hers if she has one on hand. You don't want to kill her, and the existence of a grief seed is agony that has no relation to your disagreement with Riona.

We do need to learn more about Riona, at any rate. As much as we can.

Can't think of votes right now, later.

While I can, I'll throw a very simple idea out. Well, two, rolled up in one?

One is, don't understimate the power of insistence. If you've ever seen someone who just. Doesn't. Stop. Insisting... well, that's super basic shit, but it works, it wears down your will to keep saying no until you give up. As long as Riona doesn't actually snap, we should keep insisting that we're good and want to help and aaaaaall of that.

And... we threw a couple of wild guesses... throwing in more guesses might not be a bad idea. What's Riona doing? Turning Edinburgh into a Barrier? Ressurrecting someone? Etc., we could throw more and more guesses, and see how Riona reacts. Get hints from her lack of social aptitude.

And I'm now caught up. The IRC chat was spectacular, can we please have more of those? Connecting to all of the guca around the world like Riona is important.

You remember when Briefvoice compared talking to Riona to a Point and click adventure game and Firn said that was a sign of the wrong approach?

Puella Magi Adfligo Systema | Page 5745

As long as Riona doesn't actually snap
The problem is that filibustering sets up a situation where she must either snap or give in, and given that she already knows we're filibustering she's not going to give in so easily. If the person you're pressuring knows what you're doing, literally all it does is make them angry and uncooperative. The only question is whether it takes fifteen seconds or fifteen minutes. Personally, I'm guessing more like fifteen seconds:

"You're stalling."
"Possibly! Do you want some tea?"
"No. If you don't have anything to say, either let me walk away or start fighting."
