Hazō thought about it. "Keiko can run the numbers and tell me if my idea is at all viable, but I was thinking we could start trading in…"

So, this kind of forces us to at least some up with something. Which... I'm not sure actually works. Making ourselves middlemen without there being actual distance doesn't really work. Anything we can buy in Mist and sell in Mist will already have people buying and selling to one another through well established connections, so the only way to profit from that kind of thing is to buy wholesale and sell retail, which would take longer than we have to do successfully.

We'd need something that you can't get in Mist but would have a demand. The Pangolins might have something - they've previously traded in gold. Another idea... hmm... I think this would work.

SEALS! We can sell seals! Just common stuff, but we can sell them cheaper than normal. We can even make a profit for ourselves - the Goketsu clan does need some cash. The rules prevent us from giving anything to our proctor, but nothing stops us from selling anything to our proctor. Have Hazou make some storage seals, then Karina can use her profits to buy the seals from him in bulk at a price that's low but still reasonable enough to pass muster, and then she can sell those seals for lower than market value, but more than she bought from us.

Also, as we saw in that one interlude, merchants will use storage seals to smuggle goods into the village, so there's bound to be a demand for them.

Oooh, I like this. And I went back and checked to be sure (well, more sure) that it should be acceptable:
at the end of the event you will receive one point for every one thousand Mist ryō your client has amassed you are not permitted to give the client money or its equivalents you will be assessed the aforementioned minus twenty to twenty points based on the client's review

I'm pretty sure you need a permit to sell seals in a Hidden Village. Or at least this is the case in Leaf. We'd also be selling almost exclusively to ninja, which sounds like a recipe for trouble as a nominal civilian.

I'd also get the feeling that arming a foreign power with weapons, without the permission of your Kage, is...not a good idea.

We would be selling exclusively to the proctor. The proctor would be the one selling to ninja, and the proctor probably has some kind of wide-ranging Selling Things License from 1) being a local ninja, 2) expecting the eventuality of trading in things other than the starting goods.

That's why I'd stick to storage scrolls. They're useful, yes, but not explicitly weapons. Though we could do party trick seals as well, and worm into the luxury night light seal market, but I expect that would be less profitable.

Right, no; technicalities won't save us and even storage seals have military applications, even if they're not necessarily non-lethal in nature. I don't want Jiraiya to have to gank us.

We should ask Keiko if they expect clients to sell out their entire stock in the exam or if the amount of points they accumulated is good enough to rank among the first.

Ok, fine then. Got any ideas other than "step down"? Because quite frankly for the reasons I said before, anything we buy in Mist is a no go. We either have to control production, or get it from somewhere else like the Summon Realm.

With a bit of spin, we could probably sell shit from the summon realm easy. Exotic is a shortcut to valuable :p

Yeah, but what do they have that we can actually sell? "Exotic" just isn't good enough without a specific product.

We still do have a couple tons of ice

That's certainly something we can sell. Karina can buy it from us for a reasonable wholesale cost to give us some money, and then she can sell it here in Mist for profit.

The question is how much money it's actually worth.

something something steal from other competitors something something sell their shit

We'd need to do an assassination as part of that most likely, because otherwise we end up with a pissed off ninja team that's likely to just start looking to assassinate our proctor and steal their own goods back. Unless we were really, really stealthy about it, but that'd still mean we'd have a team that's no longer able to sell and may want to eliminate competition instead.

Well, yes? Why wouldn't we assassinate their client? For that matter, why wouldn't we do that first, and take their shit while the proctor's busy hustling their Genin to the barracks?

Mainly just saying "easier said than done". We'd need to do both things, and the proctor may well keep an eye on their goods since they'd be expected to return them no doubt. Anyways, we could steal stuff, but we'd have no idea who that particular merchant might have already sold to.

The only solid idea I think we've got right now is sell ice to Karina at a reasonably cheap price, and then she can resell for a profit.

The old woman went through the boxes far more cautiously than Tokaji had gone through her wares. She brought out her own set of weights and verified that Tokaji's scales were fair, then went through and weighed each piece of the gold—much of it in the form of jewelry but also some plain nuggets—and a selection of the coinage.

@eaglejarl, @Velorien, @OliWhail - how nice is this jewelry, and how confident would Karina be that she could sell it for more than it's worth? (I'm presuming she took the value in terms of gold, rather than value as a product)

Hm. As long as we take the goods right before we KO the proctor I don't think they could do anything about it? IIRC proctors are pretending to be civilian scrubs, them trying to fight us if we're Stealthing wouldn't be good for their disguise.

We are incapable of stealthing, though.

@Kurkistan, @Exmorri

Can you add an aside for apologizing to Keiko about the homosexuality claim? It doesn't have to be a scene in the update but it's a sore spot for her.

Normally I'd prefer to wait and see the wacky hijinks ("As thanks for all you've done for me, Hazou, here's 8-hours ticket to naked spa with Lee, Neji and Kiba. E-enjoy." "I've summoned Panzektual, the foremost summoning realm seduction expert for your birthday.")

But the lost of focus' not worth it. We can leave Noburi uncertain tho. :V
