[X] [War] Offered support to the Hespranxer Republicans (no major allies, UPM currently making supportive noises but has no capacity to interfere) (0.1x)
[X] [Rounds] Begin Industrial Age play

I figure we need to get involved or we get left behind. I just can't swallow helping the coalition, and it'll probably end in getting our ass kicked anyway. This is probably throwing away my vote, but I can dream.

I'd like to note that as things stand, we will stay neutral and will miss the chance to bloody our armies unless AN rules that we will send observers to take a look at things, even if only to track our rivals military might.

Help the republicans has after weighting a little more than 2 votes and ill alienate us from every other monarchy in Syffrite even if it won.

Helping the monarchists has, as AN noted, more a consequence that we start thinking about Syffrin as our petri dish while also reaping diplomatic clout.

Neutrality won't get us involved, so we don't risk direct damage. But it also leaves us isolated in the post-war order. We currently thrive on connections and diplomacy. That may be a mistake depending on how ravaged the continent is after the war. We could do a lend-lease program afterwards, of course. But it may also end with a new order that leaves us firmly outside the new constellation of alliances.

Screw the people. Chances are that they will hate us regardless of what we do. If we support the monarch we can put a friendly king in power who would need our support and owe us favors.

The alliance does not include Scandinavia, Turkey, Khemetri and far East.
We will have options there.

Mmm, a problem. It will hurt us anyway. This is how those revolutionary movements are.
Either they win, in which case we are next, or they lose, in which case everybody recalls whose agents have kickstarted the whole mess...including our own intelligentsia which has spent a hella lot of time preaching the things which are the source of revolution.

We're not "next." We're at the very back of the line.

And if they lose, our intellectuals can sit in coffee houses and discuss the implications this whole mess has for the theory of Stewardship.

And both of these are better than having our carefully crafted diplomatic network disintegrate because every country with a royal at its helm looks at us with horror and incomprehension. This is simply not the moment to come out in support of Republicanism.

I just have to vote for the low weighted ones.

Tortun and Vortuga are in bad shape, but the Sketch switching over will likely give the Vortuga a massive shot in the arm by easing up hugely on the attacks on their shipping in the Artemian Ocean, allowing them to leverage their colony more than has been possible in the past, while also cutting off the Hespranxer from any of their colonial holdings, which is significant because as Not!France+Spain they have extensive New World holdings. Even if those holdings caused economic trouble by causing run away inflation through the importation of large amounts of gold, they were still quite significant. Of course, while wrecked economically the Hespranxer also have considerable revolutionary zeal in them. Basically while the Syffrynites are pretty sure that with the loss in officer corps from the destruction of Hespranxer nobility they have an advantage in elan, it is a far closer thing, and the Hespranxer may in fact retain the upper hand, and have the motivation to make it a war to the hilt rather than noble squabbles over border territories or colonial holdings.
So if the coalition doesn't manage to rush them they've pretty much lost.

Suspected as much.

Whatever Side we take, we need to join one to get all the Military tech that comes from this conflict.

I mean geez there is a reason that Pre-Napoleon Military tactics are called that.

And besides just because the Vortuga are in the coalition doesn't mean we couldn't leverage this alliance for more diplomacy advantages.

It boggles the mind that there are still people voting to help the monarchists after it has been made clear that it would alienate basically everyone else on the continent. What are people even thinking?

@Academia Nut

What is our martial advisors (and mercenary leaders) estimate on our military strength? Can we compete with the other powers in terms of numbers, training and equipment?

Do we have an experienced core from our mercenaries or is war still largely theoretical for us?

That Republicans are going to win in the end and cripple anyone who tries to stand apart, and that not getting involved means that we miss out on the tactical innovations that are about to render warfare up to this point obsolete?

Other way around. Supporting the republicans alienates everyone.

I only support war under the assumption that we need to bloody our army some. If AN confirms that our army is actually in good shape, I may reconsider my vote.
