Why are so many people voting for sending philosophers to Not!Germany? What's the draw here?

I think that the idea is that the fighting will be so intense that NotGermany will bleed all of there fighting power out. Then we could just sweep in and offer protection and get a massive amount of land without fighting very much.

Well, they are Not!America, and so it's pretty likely that they'll manage to break off when most of the world is eager to use this rebellion for their own ends. Pretty interesting that they were formed by the dutch rather than the british tho, but it makes a certain historical sense, since the dutch colonized NA before the british in the OTL as well.

American: WTF? We're the Dutch???
Russians: Let me get this straight, we're responsible for sparking the Renaissance, the Protestant Reformation, and the Enlightenment and played many hands in sowing chaos in Western Europe?

Depends but even if it was a small nation the fact that it recovered far quicker than its neighbours gives it a leg up. Also I assume any places mentioned are important.
Nah, it was only important because it nearly sparked a war between us and the Tortun Emperor when everyone realized they could buy Ymaryn financial advisors by going to our bank and defaulting.

What happened was that some minor lord went bankrupt when his neighbor started a war with him, and he decided it was better to be embarrassed than it was to lose the land he had down as collateral. So the Crown Bank sent in it's advisors, they put everything back together pretty quickly (two years, iirc), and then left.

All the other lords look at that, went 'Wait, wtf? They'll fix our financial problems for us? TAKE OUT ALL THE LOANS, NOW!!!', which scared the Emperor, because he thought that the Ymaryn were trying to steal his subordinates and make a landgrab. Which lead to the bank realizing 'Ok, so let's not do this for foreign countries', and eventually just giving up entirely.

DEMOCRACY IS NON-NEGOTIABLE.
For some reason people want to fight a united German Empire in the future and wreck them as superRussia just as we partitioned Poland.

So many interpretations. Unless we go full diplo on the Not!Germans that's a very powerful rival we're setting up there. I hope people realize what they're getting into.

Fixed that for you.

EDIT:
Just imagine if this became common practice. "Sovereignty" would be a very malleable concept.

Fanning social disruption and promoting Ymarynist morality and ethics. This disproportionately hurts colonial powers and slavers...which is basically everyone but us, Gylruv and Khem. Which means we finish unifying Eastern Europe while the Germanies are on fire.

The HRE/Tortuga are the biggest hazard here and fracturing them now on our terms throws out the disunified Great Power.

There is a risk that they adopt the new ideas and unify too quickly...but those ideas are educated in our universities.

Culture conversion then in progress.

If the revolution wins then we hopeful we can point and say that we help start it and secure a powerful ally on one side. But who knows. i think a lot of people are voting for that because it seems to cause massive chaos.

Eyes on the prize, people. This is what we wanted for a long time now.

Both. Short term the chaos lets us finish chestbursting Gylruv and licking up the Ymar successors.

Long term a resultant revolution would make their new government much more Ymaryn in culture than they were before.

Which means more fuel for our universities and the bank stewardship schemes.

While looking innocent

Scots and Viking (who are friends?) raiding the Vortuga+Hexprancers, Hurting colonizers.

While everyone is looking at the Atlantic exploding, we take over ALL of the near east.

Let's try to stretch the Near-east... nearer.

Reason being that we really need to finish unifying for the first, as for the second, one is already part of Greater Ymar as it is so it is an extension of current policies while the other helps us to further encircle Vortuga.

Who are all these people again? The Gylruv are the Russians, but most of the antagonist powers I'm drawing a blank on.

Vortuga (Portugal/part of Spain) and Tortun (Holy Roman Empire. So Germany/Austria) declared war on the Halvyni (Dutch) based on ancient claims to their lands. Halvyni/the Dutch lost, and sold off a bunch of colonies in Mahaxia (the Americas) as reparations. These colonies said fuck that, rebelled, and declared themselves an independent nation of "the United Provinces of Mahaxia". In reaction to this, Hespranxer (France/part of Spain) freaked the fuck out. They didn't want the Vortuga to get the UPM, but they also saw the UPM as a threat to their Mahaxian colonies. So they wanna fight everybody. Then on top of that, the Sketch (UK) and Kielmyr (Scandinavia) are engaging in mass piracy.

Option 1: Portugal/Vortuga is distracted. Blow up their ports in the Monsoon Sea/Indian Ocean.
Option 2: The Dutch/Halvyni are distracted. Blow up their colonies in Undikus/Southeast Asia.
Option 3: Cause chaos. World War! World War!
Option 4: Encourage Piracy.
Option 5: Everybody's distracted. Formally unify and maybe even finish reverse-assimilating Gylruv/Russia.
Option 6: Tortun/HRE/Germany is distracted. Have Russia and Styrmyr/Hungary/Storm Ymaryn descendants take a bite off them (I'm guessing this would be parts of Poland/Wyrmyn).
Option 7: We could fund British and Scandinavian pirates, but how about we get our own instead.
Option 8: Let's go cause chaos in Tortun/HRE/Germany by dumping a bunch of radicals in their politics and cause internal troubles and social upheaval.

Option 1 is letting us attack the first (I think?) real problem we had with Europe/the Syffrynites. We got rich off being middlemen, and this is when the Syffrynites first started going around us.
Option 2 is similar but in a farther off location. We've had less direct issues with the Halvyni.
Option 3 is cackling. Could also easily get Gylruv/us directly involved, and guaranteed if taken with Option 6.
Option 7 may be a secret way to fix our lack of naval traditions by stealing everybody else's. Could have weird synergy with Option 4.
Option 5 is the typical turtling strategy.
Option 6 and 8 have obvious synergy but I'm sure there'd also be nasty side effects.

Seriously, we should at least clarify what sending philosophers into Tortun is likely to do before we vote for it. I mean, obviously it's going to be hilarious, but if some people are voting for it to try and bleed Germany and some are voting for it to unify it, someone's going to have regrets at the end of the day.

We can be an America to this European war, selling weapons to our side while they bleed - and this will mean both Vortuga and Hexspanner fighting each other. Supporting our allies' privateers works as well, I guess.
