For me, the cools thing for Sylvania would be the opportunity to build all the fun enchantments we have been wanting to do forever, but cant get around to because our own stuff is so good: to pimp out an army.

magic swords.
magic armour
battle alters
The Dämmerlichtreiter thuribles.
tower(s)

the works!

we will finally have a job that lets us go to town on Enchantments as we get the army up to snuff against the undead.

But we'll have even less time, because we also need to do stewardship and the like.

Also consider my new avatar you want to try arguing for necromancy with me.

Also I think Morrs knightly orders are cool and underrated.

This is... a pretty enormous deal. Both for us personally and for Colleges of Magic. Not only have you established the precedent that you can have Wizard not!Elector Counts, but you've established a (flimsy) precedent that the Feudal Lord for the Place the Battle Wizards Are is a Wizard.

As stepping stones go for a bid to be Grey Matriarch (or Grand Matriarch) it's a pretty good one.
True, but I don't think we'll ever make Matriarch. I think support for the Branch College idea was in single digits, when that vote rolled around? Very low compared to other options, anyway.

The thread (insofar as it can be any one thing) likes research, but as a way to Learn Cool Shit; it dislikes being tied down to one place. It's the only reason I'm hesitating to take the Mandred option.
My other main reason for being against the high priest job is that I don't want to turn a deeply personal and unique relationship into a job.
On the upside, it's a posting to Kislev as Ranald politicks with the local gods.

Imagine Ljiljana's face when she's like 'Since when were you the high priest of the Cat' and Mathilde says 'I dunno, let me ask Ranald- one sec' Please hold your call is very important to us 'Huh. Since that thing with Mork? Weird. I guess it's been a few years? He never got around to mentioning it until now.'

Imagine Mathilde trying to diplomacy a place with a stratified religious hierarchy, when she's never been involved in Ranald's church, knows like 5 Ranaldians and probably doesn't even know all the rituals.

I'm not super interested in Kislev, or I'd be all over this option.

Also, as a somewhat official member of the Clergy, we might actually be able to get at some of those secrets of divine magic all the priests so stridently deny to wizards. I imagine Ranald would think it absolutely hilarious that we use such a title to steal such secrets.
I doubt priests of different clergies are sharing the info between themselves, and we can't use divine casting as is anyway.

No empire-building, ever. The greatest thing about this quest is the total lack of that.

And no abandoning our home or Panoramia.

These are possiblities. We don't have to choose any of them.

Stay the course. These are distractions. We already had ideas of what to do next.

...It's a damn shame we didn't get that mammoth. That could have been useful for... well, any of the leadership roles.

Sure, but we could almost certainly get the Ranaldian secrets, which could give us a good starting point to work out the rest. Especially since he told us not to study him directly but doesn't seem to mind other methods of learning.

That was my point, though? I was saying if Ranald was goig to be mad at us for not picking his option he had options to make it clear he really wanted us for that post. He didn't use them. Therefore we can consider this our right of first refusal rather than something ranald must have.
I think you're missing the point.

It's not about Ranald being jealous. It's about him being an erstwhile companion who supported us through all our most difficult trials, whether it was nudging us away from disaster or, more recently, slugging it out to keep us from being overwhelmed. He's asking, not telling but asking, if we could help him in turn.

I figure we should give it a shot.

ya, the more I think about it, the more its going to be like what Van Hal was doing instead of the typical Ck2 format.

we are going to have to give our council jobs every few turns.

and then its up to us to check up on them or trust them to do the job while we do our own thing.

in theory, if we can trust/blackmail into submission/kill and replace etc all the council. we will have a lot of free time.

I'm honestly leaning towards Sylvania. It has waystones, plenty of things to fight so we can level up our Martial. Plus we can finish what we started, our old boss would probably appreciate us helping to eradicate the vampires.

It's not my first preference but it's the only one that has a realistic chance of getting traction.

I also like the idea of ruler shop because it's a pretty good way to build up diplomacy. We'll have to interact with nobles, townspeople, and so on and so forth. Especially if we take Sylvania, and the rest of the Empire starts trying to draw us into politics.

You know. The only one i dont want to take is sylvanina if only cause im leaning on the live forever side of things and that would feel..icky and unfair?

All I can think of right now is the line up of other babysitters waiting to interview for the position, with Mathilde at the end in full glory ready to top anything the others could bring up.

Fully literate in Sigmarism? Mathilde got the personal attention of her God.

Experienced warrior? Personally killed beastmen, orcs, vampires, and daemons.

Professionally experienced teacher? Guided dedicated scholars through pushing the known boundaries of their specialties.

Well connected to the movers and shakers of the Empire? Mathilde on first name basis with several Elector Counts, nobles, Dwarf Kings, and an Elven Dragonlord.

One of the waystones we'd be investigating is at K8P, and its one of the most important for us to investigate as well.
The waystones project is about activating/repairing waystones in the network, not focused on investigating the ones we already have.
We've got our own piece of the network just as the Dwarves do, and if we could bring a few more Waystones online, it could do a lot of good for us - and our friends and allies.
This option is probably the worse of the bunch in my opinion. We are a fairly mediocre at actual diplomacy, and we can help improve human dwaven relations better by helping the dwarves, which also has the benefit of helping the dwarves more, and neting us that sweet DF.
I think that is what we would basically be doing. Similar to Belegar making us the troubleshooter for the Karaz Ankor, but our actions make the human alliance with the dwarves look good rather than making K8P look good.
BoneyM establishing upfront that all of the presented options are ones that Mathilde is capable of doing and legally permitted to do. Let none claim otherwise without being named false.
Quoted for truth, because people need to remember this.
Is it a conflict of interest for an ambassador to be equally loyal to both nations she is the liaison between?
*Title drop*
That particular form of divided loyalty is called 'clientitis' and is a relatively common problem with diplomats.
This concept could totally spawn a new genre of Quests if the thread creates some compelling mechanical framework. I am exited about this just for that.
Princess Emperor Maker?
Honestly, I feel that, while qualified, becoming High Priestesses of Ranald would almost be a step back in our relationship with him.

Right now, we are a friend. Becoming High Priestess means becoming his most direct minion. Close, yes, but a very different kind of close.
That's only if you become a normal high priestess. If we become just as irreverent a 'high priestess' as he is annoying a God...
Border Princess: Best option for maintaining social ties cultivated in Karak Eight Peaks. Has the added bonus of cultivating a court of ducklings and determining their Divided Loyalties.
Okay, I am now tempted.
In a couple of sentences, it's about to be announced that Ranald stole our soul from the dwarves, and the only reason he's not being grudged (or more accurately, ungrudged) is that we did a bunch of shit for him, like saving Vlag.
I don't think it names us it just says that a soul has been stolen. It doesn't even admit that the conclave was about us. I think only people who know that we are a Ranaldite would put two and two together.
