If we're thinking of getting an apprentice, learning Arcane Khazalid, Gazul Lore, and anything else Mathilde is only allowed to pass on to one more attractive.
If that's the case, then I'd advocate waiting a little longer, after the elfcation, just in case Mathilde gains or learns something there that qualifies for the "only allowed to pass on to one more" condition.

I don't believe this is the case, because any spell we develop has to be black boxed in order to be shared, so it's impossible to know what insights were used as part of its development. Any spell wouldn't itself use arcane Khazalid, it would just have informed Mathilde's understanding of the world so she could better conceive of the desired effect.
The thing is, if the dwarves ever find out we used our knowledge of arcane Khazalid like that, they might very well not care. Dwarves are really sticklers for their secrets.

I am against learning Arcane Khazalid. Nothing that it helps us learn can be published and made to help the Empire as a whole.

Waste of actions.
That is going to be the case with most of our magical discoveries because of how individualist it is. They are still worth making even if only for our personal use. We have just shown with Karak Vlag that a little extra knowledge can go a long way even if it is secret.

It isn't just that it can't be widely disseminated. It's that nothing derived from it can be either.

What exactly counts as derived is not particularly settled one way or the other at this point, and I expect it won't be at least until we actually take the action and see what it gives. Probably even after that as there'll always be edge cases.

That's pretty irrelevant to my point though. There's a good chance Rite of Way will be impossible to pass on to other wizards, there's a good chance our Master Sword style will only ever be relevant to Mathilde. That doesn't mean these actions were a waste of time.

We have been able to share insights derived from our knowledge of necromancy tho'. I know at least two papers had us smuggling insights from the liber mortis. Doing that with Arcane Khazalid obligates runesmiths to hunt us down and kill us.
And if Arcane Khazalid leads to forgotten elven treasure or the operating manuals for dwarven infrastructure, it benefits everyone.
Or even just things like directions when exploring old dwarven and elven projects.

I mean, when Dwarves and Elves worked together in the Karaz Ankor to raise great works of magic and power, literally melding runes and sorcery, when there was literally an Archmage in residence in K8P, do you think there werent elves who learned it?

Actually, I think I remember asking Boney and getting told derivements of secret knowledge was acceptable? Maybe? @BoneyM can you clarify in case I'm remembering wrong?

The only reason why I would be interested in learning it is the notion that it could help in dealing with Waystones, and I am very interested in being able to fix Waystones that have been messed with, since that's one of the vanishingly few ways to genuinely fight against the slow decline of this world in general.

At this point, I think that bartering with elves for knowledge would be a more palatable course of action.

which... yeah, kinda crazy.

Any action spent on learning Arcane Khazalid would be better spent on tongs or vitae.

Or Wolf. He needs more love.

That is my suggestion for overtime recovery turn, spend an action on wolf.

Seems like an appropriate way to wind down from massive stress.

Fwiw I would like an apprentice... eventually. Maybe after we hit 5 great deeds.

Can you imagine that poor apprentice though? Everyone else is going of to normal, somewhat sane magisters, the either very lucky or unlucky ones go off to the "Magister Greys" and that poor sob has to go of to she-of-too-many-titles.

Pressure intensivies.

@BoneyM Would it be possible to get an EIC action in the future that would allow Mathilde (from time to time, not every single turn) to use one EIC action to travel to Karak Barr to visit the market and search for oddities, curiosities, books, etc?

Well, no. If we share it, yes. If we share it with non-dwarfs, yes. We could use it to (help further our understanding) repair the leyline network and I very much doubt that anyone would object. If we start teaching our apprentice, or other wizards, that's when it becomes an issue.
Not everything we know or learn needs to be shared. There is in fact knowledge that, if made widely available, would result in net harm to the forces of order. The Liber Mortis is a perfect example of that.

We can do things with arcane Khazalid. We just can't teach other people how to do those things.

Doing something is not the same as teaching someone else to do something.

Isn't our book reseller based in Barak Varr? If we want a book on a given subject from Barak Varr, we could just pass on the request to them and if anything comes up they'll produce it for us like they did with the Khazalid-Classical translator. All we have to do is place a bounty for the books we want like we did with the dragon bone.

On that subject, are there any books we want to place a bounty on?

We could probably teach our sword style... to whoever we intend to pass Branulhune on to when we die.

And if we try to share those discoveries Kragg and Thorek are religiously obligated to kill us.
I don't think they'd be obligated to kill us over the elven treasure unless it was property of the dwarves and the dwarves insisted on keeping it in which case we'd have other problems anyway.

Or are they that hardcore about it?

Just to be clear, does that include nonmagical insights such as "here is where a lost treasure is located?"

My impression is that Kragg can, for example, read some runes on a wall in Karak Eight Peaks and learn from them "danger, there's a trap here," and then tell other dwarves (and for that matter manlings) "wait while I deactivate the trap." And that if he does this, he's not violating any oaths by doing so, because while this is an 'insight' derived from his knowledge of Arcane Khazalid, it isn't a secret of the Runesmiths.

Or is it?
