We can't share most spells regardless.
The idea that anything we do is a waste of actions unless it can be widely disseminated seems pretty bizarre.
If that's the case, then I'd advocate waiting a little longer, after the elfcation, just in case Mathilde gains or learns something there that qualifies for the "only allowed to pass on to one more" condition. If we're thinking of getting an apprentice, learning Arcane Khazalid, Gazul Lore, and anything else Mathilde is only allowed to pass on to one more attractive.
We can't share most spells anyway.

The thing is, if the dwarves ever find out we used our knowledge of arcane Khazalid like that, they might very well not care. Dwarves are really sticklers for their secrets.I don't believe this is the case, because any spell we develop has to be black boxed in order to be shared, so it's impossible to know what insights were used as part of its development. Any spell wouldn't itself use arcane Khazalid, it would just have informed Mathilde's understanding of the world so she could better conceive of the desired effect.
That is going to be the case with most of our magical discoveries because of how individualist it is. They are still worth making even if only for our personal use. We have just shown with Karak Vlag that a little extra knowledge can go a long way even if it is secret.I am against learning Arcane Khazalid. Nothing that it helps us learn can be published and made to help the Empire as a whole.
Waste of actions.
It isn't just that it can't be widely disseminated. It's that nothing derived from it can be either.
And if Arcane Khazalid leads to forgotten elven treasure or the operating manuals for dwarven infrastructure, it benefits everyone. We have been able to share insights derived from our knowledge of necromancy tho'. I know at least two papers had us smuggling insights from the liber mortis. Doing that with Arcane Khazalid obligates runesmiths to hunt us down and kill us.
And if Arcane Khazalid leads to forgotten elven treasure or the operating manuals for dwarven infrastructure, it benefits everyone.
And if the possession and reading of the Liber Mortis came to light prior to our becoming Lady Magister, the Colleges and Inquisition would be giving serious thought to killing us.And if we try to share those discoveries Kragg and Thorek are religiously obligated to kill us.
And the Wizards take 21, until the DM notices and <insert wind here> themed rocks fall.
The only reason why I would be interested in learning it is the notion that it could help in dealing with Waystones, and I am very interested in being able to fix Waystones that have been messed with, since that's one of the vanishingly few ways to genuinely fight against the slow decline of this world in general.
@BoneyM
Would the oaths of secrecy around Arcane Khazalid extend to not passing on insights derived from knowing the language?
That comes standard with any Runesmithing-related knowledge, yeah.
Most who have some equivalent would consider it the Sacred Secrets of Verena or the Deep Mysteries of the Light Order or something like that, but Mathilde should be able to find someone willing to put her on the right track.
Any action spent on learning Arcane Khazalid would be better spent on tongs or vitae.
Fwiw I would like an apprentice... eventually. Maybe after we hit 5 great deeds.
@BoneyM Would it be possible to get an EIC action in the future that would allow Mathilde (from time to time, not every single turn) to use one EIC action to travel to Karak Barr to visit the market and search for oddities, curiosities, books, etc?
Well, no. If we share it, yes. If we share it with non-dwarfs, yes. We could use it to (help further our understanding) repair the leyline network and I very much doubt that anyone would object. If we start teaching our apprentice, or other wizards, that's when it becomes an issue. We can do things with the sword style. We do anything with arcane khazalid and people we like will be forced to (try to) kill us.

Isn't our book reseller based in Barak Varr? If we want a book on a given subject from Barak Varr, we could just pass on the request to them and if anything comes up they'll produce it for us like they did with the Khazalid-Classical translator. All we have to do is place a bounty for the books we want like we did with the dragon bone.@BoneyM Would it be possible to get an EIC action in the future that would allow Mathilde (from time to time, not every single turn) to use one EIC action to travel to Karak Barr to visit the market and search for oddities, curiosities, books, etc?
We could probably teach our sword style... to whoever we intend to pass Branulhune on to when we die. That's pretty irrelevant to my point though. There's a good chance Rite of Way will be impossible to pass on to other wizards, there's a good chance our Master Sword style will only ever be relevant to Mathilde. That doesn't mean these actions were a waste of time.
I don't think they'd be obligated to kill us over the elven treasure unless it was property of the dwarves and the dwarves insisted on keeping it in which case we'd have other problems anyway. And if we try to share those discoveries Kragg and Thorek are religiously obligated to kill us.
Just to be clear, does that include nonmagical insights such as "here is where a lost treasure is located?"
