Same reason that Roswita came out ahead of her father: The superior option (Awkward Eshin) is (most likely) dead. Why do you think the Skaven who got the furthest in the Romance vote is also the one we chained up in our dungeon?
And now we knowConsidering that gas masks are occassionally BDSM gear, that may actually be canon-ish
1: Its just how the conservative Engineers are depicted, 'new ideas lead to trouble'. (Provide a source for your strong claims of 1 and 4.
My take was that we would just loose any warranty if we enchanted any of it.
Abel was clearly and explicitely blocked by BoneyM, presumeably because they prefer contested votes and knew that if Abel was allowed to be on that list it wouldn't have been a fight.Same reason that Roswita came out ahead of her father: The superior option (Awkward Eshin) is (most likely) dead.
no, this is a completely inaccurate description of how Warhammer dwarfs are depicted in any of the lore, books, games whatever. And these are clearly silly, they'd grudge us for stealing secrets not for using manling foolishness to umgify something we've already paid for and they've already parted with. By and large the proposed enchantments for the thing haven't really required that the mages involved actually know how the thing works in detail.
That doesn't mean we can't. It might be among the skills that Volans surpassed, but that haven't been done in living memory because no one reached our level lately.
No, it's not. If we buy our own gyrocopter, it's ours to do whatever the hell we want with. This is like saying enchanting our guns would make gunsmiths guild declare grudge on us.no, this is a completely inaccurate description of how Warhammer dwarfs are depicted in any of the lore, books, games whatever.
a magic gyocoppter is a poster example of a grudgeable offence
The 4 I was reffering to was1: Its just how the conservative Engineers are depicted, 'new ideas lead to trouble'. (
Book of Grudges Fantasy Roleplay) and they guard they inventions jealously, "as the once-revolutionary engineer finds himself fighting against modifications to his own design.' it will be the inventors of gyrocopters and their students that will be the ones most furious with any tinkering.
4: its a TT assumption a grey wizard on flying pony doesn't loss their ability to hope around the battlefield.
Like, if you want to play radical with the radical engineers, that's fine, but don't pretend its not going to lead to trouble with the conservatives
"Practice right now," he says, picking up a file and starting to grind away at an errant protrusion. "I need to get better with the fiddly bits, so I'm building a crossbow for myself."
"Isn't that an engineer thing?"
"That's what my teacher said," he says with a smile, "but me using it with Silver Arrows makes it Zhufokri nonsense instead of a breach of guild boundaries."
I'd feel confident that the warranty would be considered null and void thoughNo, it's not. If we buy our own gyrocopter, it's ours to do whatever the hell we want with. This is like saying enchanting our guns would make gunsmiths guild declare grudge on us.

If it were a grudgeable offense, we wouldn't have it as a project option and Boney would have mentioned this in the half-dozen posts on the subject. Here are some choice examples:a magic gyocoppter is a poster example of a grudgeable offence
this will upset them.
It Will.
@BoneyM Some questions about gyrocarriages:
1) Are they armored?
2) Are they armed?
3) If "no" to either of the above, can they be?
4) Are they big enough to have some runic effects and Wind ones not snap at each other?
5) Is there a possibility for customization on the engineering side?
6) Do they have Marienburg-Ulthuan range?
7) Would Belegar be opposed to us magically tinkering with one of his?
8) Could we sit down with an engineer and/or Runesmiths and look at what kind of new possibility magic/runes bring to them? Like, an MR of Disguise (which is an engineering rune), or an engine with Aqshy enchantments as to need almost no fuel, or could run off that fire spell that makes something into whisky so would just need water to refuel, or a cargo harness to make things put on it super light. That kind of thing.
1. Yes.
2. Gyrocarriages are based on converted gyrobombers, so they have a nose-mounted clattergun by default, basically a rapid-fire BB gun on Dwarven steroids.
4. If both are effecting only a limited part of the copter.
5. To an extent, since the resident Grandmaster Engineer is radical as all heck.
6. If you sacrifice most of the carrying capacity.
7. Yes.
8. Engineer, yes. Runesmith, extremely no.
@BoneyM can we have Adela and Maximilian try it and find out on a gyrocarriage engine with nothing else attached to it?
No experiments on the loaners. You have to get one of your own if you want to tinker.
@BoneyM Proposed project: Enchanted Engineering. Investigate using wizardly enchantments to improve engineering apparatus such as gyrocopters that Runelords are unwilling to work on.
Like, yes, it will make senior engineers grumble like hell, nobody's arguing with you about that. But the claim that we risk getting grudged is a much stronger one. If the local Grandmaster Engineer is willing to play ball, then everyone with actual standing to be bothered is on board and the worst the other Engineer guilds can do is grumble and lower their opinion of Gotri.I'll add it to the list, but it's unlikely to get much traction until the KaK fuddy-duddies are gone.
It's not the competition thing, (I would be less attacking if it was, as that's not cool way to competed)I think you are making strong claims against an idea you (correctly) see in competition with your desired pegasus idea.
You mean the local Grandmaster that's been kicked out of 2 holds for being to radical? If it were a grudgeable offense, we wouldn't have it as a project option and Boney would have mentioned this in the half-dozen posts on the subject. Here are some choice examples:

First, there is a wide gulf between "learn what does a thing do in general details" which is enough for enchantment, and "Try to learn Guild secrets". It is entirely possible to understand the gyrocopter for enchantment and still don't know anything about how to make one. Second, even we did have to learn Guild secrets to enchant it, this is not something the Guild knows. They are not privy to the requirements for enchanting and would not declare a grudge simply because we have a magic gyrocopter. We don't have to take apart a gun to enchant it.
We will have to get some understanding of a gyrocopper to enchant it.
And that's Trying to understand guild secrets.
If I thought people wanted to do this with the understanding that they are playing with fire I would be less annoyed.
But I'm getting strong 'there will be no consequences because it's Mathy' vibes from the arguments that sometimes pops up in the thread.
You mean the local Grandmaster that's been kicked out of 2 holds for being to radical?
It's an option because Gotri would be up for it, not because it won't couse problems.
I agree with you that it might cause problems when the traditionalists find out about it, and in fact Boney said that Belegar would be unlikely to go for it as an official project until after the KaK traditionalists left and were no longer nosing around. But you earlier saidYou mean the local Grandmaster that's been kicked out of 2 holds for being to radical?

and I just don't think that's going to happen. Guilds have long been depicted as fairly autonomous between Karaks. Gotri is the grandmaster of the K8P Engineers' Guild. Radical he might be, but he has the authority to make this kind of decision, and while it might lead to friction between him and other Engineers' Guilds, nothing is getting added to a Dammaz Kron over this. Remember the spider silk debacle?a magic gyocoppter is a poster example of a grudgeable offence
Belegar is hiring scabs: he's hiring non-dwarf weavers not part of any Guild to join up and do work that the Guild says is un-dwarfy. This is obviously a source of tension and unpleasantness, and will probably cause issues down the line. But nobody even breathed the word "grudge" over it."The Weavers Guilds of the Karaz Ankor have released a united statement condemning the use of spider-silk, saying it is the domain of Elves and Goblins," she says flatly.
"They what?!" Princess Edda opens her mouth to repeat herself, but King Belegar holds up a hand. "No, I heard. I..." He clenches a fist. "I expected Dwarves to act with nobler motives than the self-interest of a Marienburg monopolist. Fine. Fine. Go to the Empire. Find every human weaver worth half a damn, or Halfling weaver or Ogre weaver for all I care, and point them in this direction. They're paid copper, I'm offering silver." He sighs, and closes his eyes for a moment; worried looks are exchanged over the meeting table.
I am as confident that magic gyro will have large consequences as I was with maranberg creating trouble with the channel.
