Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
We voted to use the EIC to be an information source. In addition, we spent a lot of actions preparing the EIC to be used as an information source. So we should be either exploiting its information, or expanding its capabilities. I think getting the non-private information would be a better use of time. Alternatively, now that we know Roswita's plans, telling Roswita about tax cheaters synergizes REALLY nicely, weakening the Vampire counts.

We will be getting that PA 10 turns late and be surprise whet it takes 10 turns to hand the EIC network to his/her management aren't' we?

I am against any plan that does not have "spend favour for runelord help with AV" and have low interest in studying the We right now.

After the social turn, people were expressing strong interest in studying the We, so I figured... we wanted to study the We. Have people's enthusiasm already waned.

It was Fresh last turn. Next turn it will still be at 0.
I do not recall observing such interest as much, though I did miss some of the conversation. I was interested in the We's social development and interacting with them, which was sufficiently established in the social turn.

Edit: Does Mathilde have the skills or magic score for it to be worth enchanting robes yet? What about a ward amulet thing?

Edit edit: Also, and energetically in favour of the Perpetual apprentice for the EIC action. And either that or the runelord-AV action should get the Coin imo

Turn 27 - 2483 - Paving with Good Intentions
Little news and none of it good.
Stubborn dwarfs.

[ ] MAX: Write a paper: specify which.
[ ] MAX: Receive dictation: specify which. Must be taken with a 'dictate' action.
We have a pair of dictionaries to write.

[ ] JOHANN: Attempt to take advantage of his temporarily blindness to improve his Windsight.
He doesn't need six months to recover. And given the issue he had with the ratling gun he could do with sharpening his arcane sense.

[ ] DUCK: Magical target-shooting is rough on normal targets. Set up a specialized target range for your ducklings, and for any other wizards at Eight Peaks.
Infrastructure for wizards.
Or
[ ] DUCK: Panoramia's about ready to test for Magister, but she's putting it off because she doesn't have a lot of free time to prepare. Work with her to help make the most of every spare minute.
[ ] DUCK: Each of your three ducklings can fight in melee. Spar with them, and teach them what you can.
Help for wizards.

[ ] Integrate the Gong Farmers and the Niter Factory into the EIC, and expand production.
Infrastructure for shooting. Also gets it off our action list.

[ ] Travel to the Grey College and attend lessons there. (1 College Favour per class; 100gc can be paid instead for non-magical classes)
-power stones, enchanting

[ ] Write a paper: select which.
[ ] Dictate papers: select which two, must be taken with Max's 'receive dictation'.
Need to write both dictionaries this turn.

[ ] Attempt to interest one of the currently present Runesmiths in the interaction between Runes and Vitae. (Will start at the top and work your way down)
[ ] Call in favours to get a specific Runesmith to examine the interaction between Runes and Vitae with you.
Either or but I want one of them.

After the social turn, people were expressing strong interest in studying the We, so I figured... we wanted to study the We. Have people's enthusiasm already waned.
They're interesting. Doesn't mean I want AP on them.

My priorities are research and self-improvement in at least two, ideally three actions.

And I refuse to get distracted just because of a nice moment with the We.

I really want the queekish dictionary for at least the dwarfs out of the way and I think the best bet for the AV research is either the power stone or the runes.

Journeyman Maximilian de Gaynesford, Gold Wizard
[ ] MAX: Receive dictation: Khazalid Dictionary
Magister Johann, Gold Wizard
[ ] JOHANN: Attempt to take advantage of his temporarily blindness to improve his Windsight. (NEW)
Wizards of Karak Eight Peaks
[ ] DUCK: Work with Panoramia for her to finally get around to investigating the greenskin mushrooms she found.
The Eastern Imperial Company
[ ] Bring in a Perpetual Apprentice to start grooming as a handler for intelligence matters of the EIC. (1 favour/turn)
Karag Nar Penthouse:
[ ] PENTHOUSE: Have a tower built atop Karag Nar: -100gc for 1 room, bonus to room's purpose.
Serenity Tower.
[ ] Write a paper: Reikspiel Dictionary

[ ] Investigate the possibility of using one Wind to directly manipulate another. (Gambler Coin)
[ ] Gain enough control of your attraction to smoke and gases to have it collect away from your face.
[ ] Dictate papers: Khazalid Dictionary
[ ] Call in favours to get a specific Runesmith to examine the interaction between Runes and Vitae with you. (10 Favors)

Ranald's Coin - specify which face it will be set to
[ ] The Gambler: specify an action this will apply to.

This is my preferred action set, I'd rather skip over the two favor runesmith action and just bring in the big guns from the start. Let them investigate as seems best to them. Also we have a bit of flex so finally investigating wind control and getting some control over one of our marks greatly appeals to me.

The duckling action I could switch relatively easily, Hubert or Gretel could be interesting.

I see no reason for us to be wasting our EIC action on economics rather than fitting out our network though.

It feels odd that Johann doesn't have a trait to represent his blindness, temporary as it may be.
It's either going to be fixed in the next turn (he's trying again when the wounds scar over, and if he survives another failure he'll try again after that), or he's going to be dead enough that he won't be getting better.

I prefer the Hubert one but am not married to it. Besides that I'd be perfectly fine with that.

I just realized that Mathilde is in her thirties now. Man does time fly. I wonder when she will go through her midlife crisis.

The We are research, and research which we are very close to writing the book on. Furthermore, we were handed a plot hook with the description of ourself as the most-Echo. I want to find out what that means.

After the social turn, people were expressing strong interest in studying the We, so I figured... we wanted to study the We. Has people's enthusiasm already waned?
My interest hasn't.
Remember people, our best equivalent of getting another superweapon for tunnel fighting is enchanting a MAP table for the council meeting room to allow a supernaturally enhanced mental image of relative troop positions for command.

And quite possibly the best way to keep that updated in real time would be to figure out how to extend the We's range of communication.
Similarly, we are very close to being able to write the book on the We, which would gain College favor.

PS I'm in favor of getting the EIC a paramilitary force to discourage piracy, the Border Princes are the wild west, but worse.

Fellows, I know the towers are neat, but a single more Dig Down action should more or less clear out the options! Shooting range, training room, explosions lab, provisions and armory are all nice choices, but most important of all, we still don't have a trophy room!

[ ] Plan Coin
-[ ] JOHANN: Attempt to take advantage of his temporarily blindness to improve his Windsight. (NEW)
-[ ] MAX: Receive dictation: Queekish-Khazalid Dictionary, including spoken Low Queekish
-[ ] DUCK: Work with Panoramia for her to finally get around to investigating the greenskin mushrooms she found.
-[ ] EIC: Reach out to Roswita, and have the EIC start passing on tips about any tax evasion or other naughtiness by the EIC's rivals.
-[ ] P1: Dictate papers: Queekish-Khazalid Dictionary, including spoken Low Queekish
-[ ] P2: Investigate how the Vitae reacts to a power stone.
-[ ] P3: Study an artefact: Ranald's Coin
-[ ] P4: Travel to the Grey College and attend lessons there: Practical Diplomacy
-[ ] SERENITY PAPER: Queekish-Reikspiel Dictionary, including spoken Low Queekish (1/2)
-[ ] PENTHOUSE: Have a tower built atop Karag Nar: -100gc for 1 room, bonus to room's purpose.

The EIC hiring an assistant would get a vote, but I'm not sure which option people want. I prefer Julia, but there seems to be people unhappy with this for some reason? Meanwhile, helping Roswita/non-public info is my choice.

Do the Powerstone stuff now, because then the powerstone is available to either resell or use in something else.

Ranald's Coin should also get studied as soon as possible. It synergizes with AV, and it is our second most important thing to study.

I am against any plan that does not have "spend favour for runelord help with AV" and have low interest in studying the We right now.
I want to wait for the next turn, where we can make AV our Belegar Project and save the favor. In the meantime, still study the AV.

No, this is well worth the Favor to keep it as our personal project. Not like we don't have plenty of it to use.

Generally, the same objections to Julia parallel the objections to Gretel - the thread has previously preferred a candidate that they can be assured has no desire for wealth (because of the potential impact on company culture), is definitively political reliable and loyal to the Grey College/Empire first and foremost and is very likely a person of sufficient personal integrity. There was a long conversation on this matter after the first chapter of last turn I believe.

Recruiting outside is very risky(because their characters and political loyalties are not guaranteed - you could end up with the same choice set as you had for the Stirling Watch, and recruiting a Dwarf means your ability to acquire sensitivity information is constrained because of Dwarven cultural attitudes to secrets) , Julia's loyalties are to her family, and Gretel's Wealth+Thief combinations all are potentially objectionable.

Basically, the same objections to Julia (large sections of the thread OOC won't trust her with a network meant for the Grey College and Mathilde's role as a Grey Magister) apply to most candidates, except for the Grey Perpetual.

Furthermore, we have no guarantee of poaching Julia, and odds are, poaching Julia for our own use tears a hole into Stirland's own intelligence network. So those are additional strikes against poaching Julia.

But then again, the thread debate might have shifted since the last time I closely followed the assistant debate.

As I understand it, the options look like this:

Julia
- Guaranteed Competency
- Ramifications on Stirland's own Intelligence Network
- Loyalty is to her family first and foremost.

Gretel
- Guaranteed High Stats
- Can be recruited as a Write-in Duckling Action
- Thief + Wealth combination has been an objection to giving Gretel such a position of power vis a vis EIC Company Culture.
- Already committed to mercenary work.

Recruit Outside
- No Guaranteed Competency/Statline
- No Guaranteed Integrity
- No Guaranteed Political Reliability/Loyalty

Grey Perpetual
- May start with a very inexperienced, newly minted Grey Perpetual up to a Perpetual who does have relevant work experience but no managerial experience before this.
- Integrity and Political Loyalty is sufficiently satisfactory for the Grey College to grant said individual the rank of Perpetual
- Almost certainly no desire for wealth (unless he managed to bamboozle the Grey College about his character)
- A fellow Wizard to narratively interact with, and entrust with sensitive Grey College-related business.
- His/her training/education/likely skillsets are likely is very familiar to Mathilde, as a graduate of the Grey College.
