We should finish learning it. After that, well, I'm not sure making a battle magic scale version of it is worth the trouble when we can already pump it up into something bigger with the channelling rules if we need to, but at least it'll be on the table.
...Clearly we need to better enchanting than and develope a magic iteam that auto hits nearby enemies with it.

It will be an Orb Shpere of Confusion Confoundation!

So I was thinking about a tower designed around a shrine to Ranald and how we could have four levels each dedicated to a single aspect. Deciever is the actual shrine, nobody knows it's a shrine. The Oh Dear tower seems like a shoe-in for the Gambler level. Protector and the Night Prowler seemed harder to think of. Protector was basically "something useful to the community" and I played with a tower that casts Okkam's Mind Razor on the Undumgi before battle. Night Prowler was a bit harder and the closest I got to was "a MAP room to plan assaults and heists".

The last bit led to a far more interesting idea. Remember when we were talking about making an Ulgu Radar spell? And did you see how we could program a species database into the burning shadows detection system? Imagine this: A room under/over every mountain. It has a MAP of the entire cave system... and a radar that detects the any change in the area as well as any souls*. Essentially the Marauder's Map without the names but with hopefully species identifiers. Any skaven or orc enters claimed territory? Boom. Alarm goes off. This isn't as good as the Burning Shadows thing, but it'll be an incredible boon to underground combat. It'll also be a great answer to most stealth attacks. I doubt it'll stop the best of the best, but even everything else would be an amazing boon.

Thoughts?

*We can essentially create two separate radar spells. One is a conventional radar and detects structures. The other senses any souls capable of feeling confusion.

On an off chance a training room will help when we start designing the new style for Branalhune, I'm gonna get it now.

Wait a minute...I wonder/worry there might be consequences of having a Shrine to Ranald intersected by a pillar burning with Gazul's (restrained) fires.

Karak Azul was cut off from the world three thousand years ago. Because Dwarves, they didn't stop mining and smelting steel just because they had nobody to export it to. King Kazador has just made every ingot of it available to King Belegar.
Fair enough

I think they're asking how thick it is; as thick as our leg, or our torso? Or, is it even wider than a single Mathilde?
Though yeah I'd still like to know the dimensions out of curiosity

Mathilde's Murderous Mist - Creates a fog in a large radius around the caster that causes any enemies caught within to suffer malicious hallucinations tailored for each victim.

Keys off Fog of War for the concealment aspect and Interrogator for the personalized mental attack. Messes with the opponent's IFF and generally scares the shit out of them. Also very good for exfiltration if you're not worried about your cover.
Well if we could get all those keywords to make it possible I'd certainly love to do something like that.... might not even need to be battle magic really.

...Though I still like the totally not a spongbob reference magic item too.

Presumably we'd put the shrine in one of the rooms not adjacent to the pillar of Gazul.

The pillar goes through our Penthouse room, but I assume the construction below is situated around it rather than it passing through any of the rooms directly.

So long as Ranald watches himself around probably the next best thing to a physical avatar of a Death God's Sword there shouldn't be. But then, it might add an element of tenseness to our interactions. Perhaps it'd be best to keep them separate.

Is there anything Karak Azul seems like it could use from us as a thank you for all the aid it's given Eight Peaks? Various luxuries from the EIC? An Orc warboss or two murdered? Engineering guild aid? Marriages for all of Kazador's daughters? A Jade College fertility enchantment to help his quest of singlehandedly repopulating the Dwarfs?

We really need to do something nice for Karak Azul or the King, all that steel deserves a gift in return

So... basically revise the Cartographer project so that it goes:
  1. Explore Karak Eight Peaks
  2. Research original ulgu-sensor spell
  3. Build MAP room showing Karak Eight Peaks
  4. Install ulgu-sensor nodes all over Karak Eight Peaks
  5. Link sensor nodes to MAP room with automatic updating system for a real-time minimap of everything in the Karak
I am wholly in support of this expansion of the project, and I'm pretty sure Belegar will be too. It'll probably take a LOT of actions to finish, though.

As far as I know they aren't in the same space? The Entrance hall is the first thing you go into, then you go down to the rooms, or go in other currently undefined directions to the doors to the towers. Since the Burning Shadows tower isn't directly above the Entrance Hall its Steel Rod shouldn't pass through it.

E: Ah derp Eshined.

Square and about a foot across. Probably hollow, but if you tap on it and listen, instead of an echo you hear the eternal screaming of those foolish enough to try to break into the Underearth.
That's metal as fuck.

So I looked at 'fog harvesting tower' images on Google, and I love the spiral effect they all have going on. I'm head cannoning this as the main design for the Grey Tower.

I admit, noooot really interested in short-changing Belegar/our job in terms of actions. We've been told repeatedly that 2 is the minimum, and 2-4 is expected. We didn't even spend very many actions this turn on our job (2)! Yes, we invested a bunch of favors of our own, but so did Belegar. Belegar funded the project, and Belegar covered many of the promises necessary to get everyone down here (hence why getting anyone but Algard would have been free).

I figure that we've gotten extremely lucky in our rolls on the tower so far: why not go for broke, and make sure we have a 24/7 death tower that can destroy armies in a 360 degree angle around it? The ultimate defence for essentially any overland assault.

Our job isn't "punch a timecard." Our job is "do things." If we knocked all the things out of the park, I think I am morally OK with spending company time on our own stuff.

Honestly, the most straightforward thing to do is tell him we are done, and would like a new assignment. He can set us to cartographer from the options we offered or tell us to help out one of the others, whatever he thinks best

The bath option is a proper bathhouse with accommodations for guests. The bedroom includes a normal washroom and bath.

This is exactly the point though- somewhere to soak, possibly with guest(s), in a way that screams luxury, but the grey college would approve of. Plus, if there cistern runs off of the fog tower, the baths will be great for affinity.

More greenskins to shoot and continuing to exist.

Continued access to the rest of the Karaz Ankor. So you're pretty well on track.

How much gold college favor would we need to make the dwarven Colossus of Rhodes?

Continued access to the rest of the world. By its very existence, Karak Eight Peaks provides a link between Karak Azul and the world they were cut off from, and the chance to meet people other than Greenskins and Skaven looking to kill them.

Karak Azul is one of the Dwarf Holds going through overall population decline right now, but it's been said that, given time, the existence of Karak Eight Peaks and what it provides could reverse that trend.
