Part of the issue is thread seems historically uninterested in doing enchantments for anyone other than Mathilde. Mathilde herself is covered in legendary-artifact-tier gear as a result of huge favor splurges and very lucky rolls, which makes it hard to justify rolling the dice on something that might be situationally better, but we also can't improve our enchanting unless we practice enchanting.

Then, well, going back to the original vote, a lot of people were voting for it because of the thread obsession with One Weird Trick To Ultimate Power. The cult of tongs and theurgy had worked themselves into a frenzy over how their theorycrafting was totally going to unlock High Magic, and the trait vote mentioned Elves using all eight winds, so it was kind of a foregone conclusion. Then it turned out neither of those ideas led to anything of value, and the Waystone Project wound up mostly leaning on other people to do all the multi-wind design and enchanting work, because Mathilde never actually practices enchanting.

I think we silk robes provides a fairly good opportunity for wind herding, so there's an opportunity to catch the thread's interest there
Given all the combat in forests and the like that we're probably going to commit to in the next few turns, and Mathilde's favoured tactic of 'find enemy leaders and perform extreme targeted violence', maybe an Ulgu/Ghyran enchantment for passing swiftly and stealthily through terrain? At its most ambitious, it could even manipulate the plants around the wearer to provide covered positions/defence in close combat/a sudden barrier for a quick escape...

"Average Grey Wizard breaks the rule of poverty once in his career" factoid actually just statistical error. Average Grey Wizard never breaks the rule of poverty. Lady Magister Weber who lives in a flying ship and breaks the rule each day, is an outlier and should not have been counted.

This is a list of spells that Boney has said Mathilde can try to make. I have organized the list by grouping similar spells and sorting by when ideas were suggested. Please bring any spells that you feel should be added to this list to my attention. Word of Boney relevant to spell creation...

Very notably, Windherding is really great if only we were to do some Enchantments with it! We've done one, and the Portentiv uses the trait but doesn't develop it.

It's like picking up generalship and then never commanding ever again.

or like picking up polyglot and then stop learning languages

Mathilde looked at the paper and squinted before shaking her head.

"I am sorry, but I can't read broke," she said.

Well we don't have people within the quest requesting stuff be enchanted for them. It's not clear what enchanted equipment we could make for other people that would further our goals. If there could be a thing where Mathilde spends an action doing Windherding to create a piece of equipment for someone, and then they give us one action's worth of work in exchange then that might be a deal we'd take.

So the question is, are we aware of anyone who:
1. Would like some really unique enchanted equipment
2. Would give us an action's worth of work in exchange
3. Has expertise where their action's worth of work on a specific topic is worth more than Mathilde's action's worth of work, or at least about similiar (since we would also be getting 'develop Windherding' out of the deal.)

I am quite looking forward to using WEBMAT to make our airship. It'll be cool to finally use WEBMAT for something, and it means we'll get a bunch of words on how to build an airship!

... I have no memory of this. Which is weird. Are webmat things just not marked as being webmat?
For every two AP spent across all members of WEB-MAT, including recruiting new members, you can spend one 'free' additional AP with any member of WEB-MAT. WEB-MAT actions are performed by Mathilde alongside that person when possible, such as studying something alongside that person, cowriting a paper together, one teaching the other, both of them learning something new, et cetera.
For instance, just this turn we did an investigation with Johann, a project with Egrimm, and papers with Max, spending only two AP for three actions. If you check my history of the Waystone Project, you will see we indeed make use of this more often than not.

Oh. Cool. That helps explain some stuff then. Alright. I just lost track of it because I wasn't paying close enough attention.

Still looking forward to spending WEBMAT actions on the Prismatic Wanderer, I want a bunch of words on our airship.

We are currently up to two thirds of a spherical turn in a vacuum worth of AP left on the table due to planning inefficiencies. Considering how much of a knife fight it usually is to get even one AP towards a goal, it stands out even if objectively we have used them more often than not.

This paper is notable because we laundered insights from the Liber Mortis through it: we included more detail about what he was doing than we actually got from our observations so that we could show exactly how to fuck with it. Useful, to be sure, but definitely a "Man, Mathilde really got a good look at that dark magic, didn't she" moment.
Only Mathilde would add "laundered insights from the Liber Mortis" onto her unofficial resume.

Working on the boat is great. It's probably gonna have to be this next turn? We know it'll take at least a bit to build but the sooner it's ready the less opportunity we have. It makes planning a little awkward, if we do elfcation- or we could do the Father Turn etc etc- but if we do elfcation then that's already three AP plus Waystone project AP plus prep AP.

We can afford to do a bit less with the Waystone project after our huge blitz this past turn, so that leaves some slack. Finishing Scouting with Eike and Kazador is too beloved to me, and working on the ship with Web-Mat and Windherding is extremely important to me, so if we needed more AP I'd honestly want to drop new robes. Like many in the thread have spoken at great lengths about, Mathilde was powerful and prepared enough for the elfternship quite a while ago.

Plus, as said before - it's quite possible that we'll be able to get some insight into weaving Ulgu into cloth, potentially even spider silk specifically, from the example of the Shadow Warriors and their own gear.

Is that purely counting inefficiencies in WEB-MAT action distribution (e.g. taking four on one turn and then only one on the next) or did you include every turn on which we didn't get a bonus action from WEB-MAT? Because if the latter, I'm not sure I'd call that a planning inefficiency; it's simply the case that there's no way to achieve certain goals using WEB-MAT, so insofar as we want to achieve a certain number of those goals there's really no more efficient way than taking the actions required to do so.

As a rule, if Mathilde is writing about dhar or skaven, she's smuggling knowledge out of the liber mortis.

I think Boney said at one point that we could attempt an "encode dhar insight, but just the stopping dhar part" paper/book, but that it wasn't guaranteed to work.

I still really want to find an action to examine Nagarythe's waystone network during the elfcation. It's possibly the only chance Mathilde will have to visit, unless we get lucky with Protector and really impress the Shadow Warriors.

Most of Ulthuan probably has the same leylines that were set up when the Vortex was young, but Nagarythe's would have been annihilated in the Sundering. Anything the elves have there would be post-Sundering work, probably patchwork as the Druchii are constantly invading, and as Hatalath was around pre-Sundering we could compare notes with his memory to try and figure out exactly how Ulthuan's waystone knowledge degraded after they fell out with the dwarves.

It's also possible there's examples of whatever the Druchii consider waystones; for them Dhar is a power source, so if they use any kind of network it would probably be to channel all the Dhar in an area to the local sorceress, but they'd have to do so without Caledor's help, and I'd rather learn whatever they know by direct observation than ask a Druchii.

While Windherder hasn't seen a lot of actual AP-use, it's been present in the narrative in what Mathilde's been up to on autopilot. The Collegiate Fascis was only presented as an option because Mathilde 'herded the prototype herself offscreen. When we discovered Eike had Windsight, Mathilde used 'herding to give her a taste of each Wind to check her natural preferences.

I do at some point want to ask a Hedgewise to contribute to a joint Divine/Arcane Ulgu/Hedge enchantment, just to see what comes of it. Either Halethan through Aksel, or Ranaldite by showing up and asking while wearing a major Ranaldite artefact in the coin. And also maybe build Horstmann's Speculum via Hysh/Ulgu herding with Egrimm, and hand the resulting item to him. Not for material benefits - just because it's hilarious to see that artefact built in such an AU fashion and wielded by its original owner despite the changes we've wrought.

And as someone who actively wants Mathilde to delve into Ulgu and maybe collect some more arcane marks, it's the only method that the thread has proven willing to explore that has a chance of catalysing that deepening connection.

It suddenly occurs to me that having a giant deluxe airship to use as a mobile base of operations could make the "Mathile could bring Eike, but she'd effectively be treated as Mathilde's luggage rather than a fellow warrior" issue a bit less bad.

Not by enough to make it worth it, she'd still be limited to learning in live combat I think rather than getting to train with the shadow warriors, but accommodations are at least one issue with bringing more folks along that we can solve.
