To put it straigh my goal is basicaly flying helicarrier.
I am not satisfied with just normal empire ship with stell slaped on top and an added steam engine, fell somewhat kludge.
So I am trying to figure out how we can comission a a giant custom steel hull to be runed and enchanted and armed as needed. Don't need to be a warship because we can cover the war part.
We have so much clout and contacts that I wondering why we couldn't manage the paperwork if a custom comission of any kind is at all possible.
Then i suggest just straight up asking that, instead of trying leading questions.

Hmm... eight different enchantments that can be put on a Ship with an attached Envelope

Chamon - Make the Envelope as strong as steel.
Ulgu - Invisibility booster
Aqshy - Everburning Furnace
Azyr - Backup flight system
Hysh - Weaponry
Ghyran - Maybe some enchantment to create landing gear out of roots?
Ghur - Cowering Beasts to repel flying attackers
Shyish - Weapon

There are Battle Wizards that are dead because of it, if that's what you mean.
I was curious whether the numbers were significant. It's been an extended and continuous use of a proportionally high number of Battle Wizards with a comparably low amount of standard troops in an area with unstable ambient magical conditions against an enemy with skill at targeted assassination. They were also allowed to cast their risky (to themselves and others) magics at their own discretion, including outside of discrete battles.

The reason for asking this question, other than general curiosity, was because I hoped for insight into just how dangerous normal Battle Wizard deployment actually is in your setting, compared to how dangerous it is believed to be by Imperial institutions (including the Colleges). I fully understand if this is not a corner of the setting you have sufficiently scrutinized to want to give a lore answer to.
but spoiler warning, you might want to wait until the end of this social turn before you do anything about the legal status of the Nordland Hedgewise.
Is this an option? The waiting I mean.
There is a specific Chaos sword than can just make the corruption go away (one assumes Slaanesh made it broken as a joke :V ), but that is it.
Isn't there also something involving bear piss?
This seems... somewhat out of character?

As far as I know, there are little to no limits of what weaponry a dwarf can own. Why would they limit throughput of their industries and limit the honest work that can empower their people? It used to be pretty legal to own all sorts of weaponry, warships among them.

If it's a supply and stockpiling issue then maybe, but is Barak Varr really that in desperate need of more material?

This feels like a decision was made somewhere by someone high on their own supply or on a power trip.
I am pretty sure that Barak Varr's navy is not saturated in ships, let alone ship maintenance. So those shipyards aren't idle and skipping a full production cycle would be considered a threat to national security.
What about Guilds? Could the Altdorf Zhufokri Guild commission one? Or a future Umgi Karak Eight Peaks Zhufokri Guild (with the understanding that WEB-MAT is no such Guild and any such Guild would be independent of the Empire and illegal for Mathilde to found or run).

Yeah, the Tower/airship sounds really cool, but it's cool in the same way like "Jeff Bezos got himself a new yatch that cost 1 billion instead of just 500 million and it's so much cooler!!" I don't really see us, using it that much. It just becomes a "We need bigger ship" kinda deal.

The armour seems the most interesting out of the options so far, given how it would combine with the rest of Mathilde's kit.

I'm leaning towards the tower out of the options presented, though I'm thinking of the armour as a second choice.

Break the CF system does sound somewhat interesting - even if Max isn't the best researcher, he's still on hand, and it'd be cool to throw him at a few of our curiosities.

@Boney if we ask for a Flying Magical Tower, have you given any thought to how indepth customisation might be? Or would you speaking about that risk giving too much weight to that option? [If so, please disregard the below question];

I was wondering - since stone is an excellent insulator of magic quite good at resisitng magic's flow, would it be possible to have separate parts of it enchanted for different things?

The image I had in mind was, a big light source enchantment out on a "stick" that can swivel around the tower as needed, and the base of the tower has got the old favourite "Burning Shadows" i.e. you better have a dispeller or you're toast.

Sure. And we are currently raring for Irrana Orcs and Druuchi combatants, unlike whatever the mobile fortresses offer. Its providing benefits to already existing plans and existing lifestyles instead of creating ones ex nihilo.

Mathilde being so sedetary in rather unique in her life and even her sedetary times required some battle.

Except its not really rare. We set up our current project like, two years ago by killing a cultist of Slaanesh and battle with Dryads in Kislev. And that was like, one of the calmest period of our life.

So they can all fall to their death if someone countercasts the spell that keeps it afloat. Aerial compatants are purview of Ulthuan, not us.

I am really, really not in favour of Either Ship or Tower, but Tower is at least theoretically defensible even in air.
Like they wouldn't put a tremendous amount of resources to keep exactly that from happening. I can see them putting fail safes into fails safes.

Spirit of Grungi did all of that shit and it was mundane. It be a mix of the mundane and magic in this case.

Huh, I actually have a non-joke idea. @Boney , would we be able to basically ask for an unlimited line of credit with the Colleges for research funding? Like, whenever we want something for research like the power stones for making the orbs or the person we got to help with the auditory seviroscope we are assumed to have college favor: yes and don't need to spend any?

Unlimited research funding is the kind of thing I see researchers wanting more than anything. It feels like a very appropriate reward; we've proved our research is so valuable to the colleges that they want to support whatever we do.

It has been asked, the answer is yes, we can break the CF system.

Socializing was make-work, mostly just us being nice to him since we knew he would like it and maybe have some use for it and searching the Colleges for Waystone books and the lizard papers was something any other wizard, hell anyone else with a decent learning score, could help with. It's not that we've never used him for anything else, the structure of Web-Mat is such that we have to do something with him from time to time even when we do not have the time for paper writing, it's that he's not useful for anything else beyond 'generic wizard'.
That's my point. Freeing ourselves from the College Favor economy wouldn't do anything for Max. We're not going to use him more on other things because we don't need him for CF. We might even use him less, though it's not like paper writing have ever had much narrative focus placed on it by Boney.

Also, I missed several things initially. It doesn't affect my point, but might as well correct my error. He and WEBMAT looked for Athel Toralien. He also helped to map the Empire's nexuses, prototyping the tributaries, studying the capstone, and deploying the tributary.

One thing that the ship has that is just a boon would be a permanent crew that could add interesting characters to our turns. Boney did say that a ship would have a crew for thematic reasons.

Our gyrocopter is seeing use in peaceful arc. Our armour saw us through K8P, Alkharad assassination, Karak Dum, Unrest in Ostermark, trouble in Talabecland and Battle of Shirokij etc and everything inbetween those arcs. They serve different purpose, but airship doesn't serve it moreso than Gyrocopter would for most occassions would except when we are striking out alone, and we really should not be striking out alone when all we have as a support is the goddamn ship.
Half the point of the ship is being able to carry backup wherever we want to go. The gyrocopter can't fit more than maybe a half-dozen dwarves with no cargo, a proper airship could probably manage a small throng.

Except its not really rare. We set up our current project like, two years ago by killing a cultist of Slaanesh and battle with Dryads in Kislev. And that was like, one of the calmest period of our life.
Alberich was bisected the moment he became aware of Mathilde, and never even tried to do anything but run away from her after that. Drycha dodged Mathilde's opening attack, but was promptly chased off by seeing the overwhelming force suddenly arrayed against her. In neither of those cases was armor remotely relevant, because Mathilde's entire fighting style is about not giving the enemy the opportunity to fight back.

And before you say "but what if things go wrong", we already have multiple backup options for getting hit. The Red Rider, Kragg's belt, her robes, the seed which can literally bring her back to life. Blowing an entire great deed on what amounts to a minor redundant backup option would be the biggest waste I can think of, I'd rather just parcel it out for lore tidbits than go for the armor.

I took my earlier wishlist and cleaned it up a little, removing the joke items and adding a plan name.

[] Plan Pickle Requests
-[] Ambers: Everything they know about dragons
-[] Lights: KAU partnership with the Light Order's Ancient Library
-[] Golds: Bankroll for upcoming magical curiosities shopping trip in Lothern
-[] Jades: Pure CF
-[] Celestials: Clear Sky enchantment for the gyrocarriage
-[] Greys: EIC spy network access to Grey intelligence assets
-[] Amethysts: Information on what Hexensohn was doing under Drakenhof and why
-[] Brights: Their staff-turning techniques

Suggestions for better ideas welcome.
A really hard question. I would look into the future what Mathilde would pursue next and the only certaindy I see there is that some sort of adventure will come. The difference would be in what goal.
My proposal would be a number of enchanted objects that can easily be carried with someone. Given that meele weapon and armor and healing are already covered that would place quite the size restriction and theme on the objects.
That would be really nice for a stay overseas or were support is hard to come by.
Unfortunately, there is a limit to how much magic bling we're allowed to have with us. See Enchantment Slots in the Collection of Important Information threadmark.
Our aethyric armor puts us at the level of a well armored knight as I understand it. Is the combo "wade into a horde of orcs and not worry too much" grade?
Well that's dope, I think that's now definitely my favorite use of it as a single boon.
it's that he's not useful for anything else beyond 'generic wizard'.
I literally posted the QM telling us years ago that us not using him on anything significant was an us problem, not a Max problem.
oh, was the knight bringer spell also passed along?
We haven't codified it yet, so no.
One thing that the ship has that is just a boon would be a permanent crew that could add interesting characters to our turns. Boney did say that a ship would have a crew for thematic reasons.
This seems unlikely. Adela is crewing our gyrocarriage and she hasn't really been narratively present in the quest as a result. Remember: wordcount doesn't come from nowhere, they either come at the expense of other words or at the expense of time.

Failsafes don't stop you from being single highly visible actionable target in air when waaagh is in action and waaaghs are known to have wyverns. Like i am sorry but its like the goddamn steel monitor falling down the road. Shit ods of it happening but even shittier odds of surviving if it does happen.

I'm pretty much sold on the flying forteress tower. My only worry is about the enchantement being dispelled mid-air.

But yeah, a flying base has so much potential. I wonder how big we could make it? What possible uses could it have :

Flying Fortress - Packed to the brim with cannons, arrowslits, barracks, storages, docks, defensive and offensive enchantements. As strurdy a castle as can be built with dwarven expertise and craftmanship. Probably will take a while to build...

Flying Residence/Embassy - A flying palace of comfort and beauty, incorporating many luxuries. Pools, library, gardens, beautiful chambers for guests and staff. A true wonder of human creativity and enchantement as an art.

Flying Laboratory - Equipped with a laboratory set up in accordance to the standarts set up by the Waystone Project and as many magical facilities as we can fit. At least one Doomsday Weapon is mandatory.

Flying Supertanker - As big as could be acheived, a slow behemoth with enough storage space to store and carry not only the haul of hundreds of ships, but the ship themselves. Fitted with enormous storage bays, traps, engines and pulleys to quickly pull up or drop down arbitrarly large charges. Could be used by the EIC for shiping on a never seen before scale... Escecially useful to supply inaccessible or dangerous areas with large supply of food, materials or other commodities.

I'm not sure I'd want to LIVE in a flying tower anyway. We already have a very nice home and I'd find it hard to believe a flying tower would be better to live in than our Karag Nar accomodations. But it could be a very cool asset.

If we end up giving him more make-work that is a sign that maybe we should not be working for us. That is the thing mechanically that forces us to use Web-Mat wizards or lose them.

Though I don't want to get armor any way when can make it ourself, our robes are armor after all.
Any armour we can make will stack with Tarnus's armour. Also, we don't have a way of creating a Ward Save the armour has.
So while the armor might be useful, it would not be more often so than the hypothetical airship.
Elfcation alone makes armour a much more practical favour than tower/airship.

Then just don't be on top of a Waggh lmao? Your assuming that everyone would be absolute morons on our end while assuming the best out of our foes taking advantage of us being idiots.

Just don't end up in that situation and break out the Azyr enchantments to throw some lightning bolts onto Wyverns. Like it's a magical ship, it's gonna have magical defenses.

While I'm sure people have contributed many great and useful ideas (I'm not sure though, that's like 20 pages of comments, I'm not reading all that), I do feel we have made ourselves deserving of a small treat, namely a giant statue, with a plaque saying something like:

For Countless Great and Heroic Contributions to the Unveiling of Arcane Mysteries and the Advancement of All Humanity

Not sure yet where exactly to put it, but I do still think we should consider the merits of this ideas
i do: right in the middle of the celestial college.

So, as far as I can see, it would be most useful if we are heading somewhere far away from allied territory into the wilderness and expect something very unsubtle to happen there, which is... not something that happens all that often, and not something I want to increase the rates of occurrence of, personally.
I think it would be very useful in the silver road war.

I would like to suggest outsourcing Apparition collection and storage for us as a reward.

This would save us AP (the most valuable reward ever) when developing new spells.

No longer would we have to hunt down every Red Rider or Whispering Darkness individually, we could skip straight to the fun spell designing/unleashing on our enemies bits.

[ ] Provide us with captured Apparitions on request
