For her to start mistrusting those and begin downing potions made by some hitherto unmentioned character for an extra edge at this point in her career feels fundamentally wrong.
That does make sense. I was thinking Panoramia since this is the second half of the year, but I forgot that Warhammer winter happens in the fourth quarter instead of the third.

She didn't do it in Sylvania, she didn't do it in Karak Eight Peaks, why is she doing it here?
Though I'm not interested in potions anymore because of it means Mathilde will stop believing in herself, wasn't Sylvania and Eight Peaks just a case of no opportunity? She was a broke uni student in Sylvania, then a traumatised uni graduate on the road to Eight Peaks, and then while settling in Eight Peaks, it was a situation where conflict could break out at any time - can't prepare potions in advance. I suppose there was the opportunity to bring magic potions into the Chaos Wastes... but that's bringing magic potions into the Chaos Wastes.

Put me down as a nearly single-issue voter when it comes to murderizing Orks with Kazador and Eike. It's a scene I've desperately wanted to read for many moons, and it so neatly lines up getting scouting just before the Elfcation.

Would not be my favorite use of time compared to so many other actions we might be doing.

I also think you have a much better idea of what actions would be good to put in if we avoid the elfcation than I do, so any thoughts would be appreciated.
Dude we were invited to Ulthuan for a specific purpose: "For ninety-nine days you may call Nagarythe your home, and shall shed blood alongside us to defend it. Our Arhain are not as sought as Saphery's Sariour, but you of the grey of eight may be able to appreciate them."

We're going to be fighting Druchii in Nagarythe and probably learning as we fight. Anything extra we get is extra.

I believe he was saying he didn't want to go to Ulthuan and would rather do more actions in the Old World, not that he wanted to go on Elfcation and somehow ignore Nagarythe.

I think that is exactly what I said?

Would you be willing to help me understand what our misunderstanding/disconnect is?

Yes, Talon is correct that that is what I mean.

Is that what our misunderstanding was? You did not know that I do not want to go to Ulthuan at all?

Well I want to kill the druchii and watch people agonise over some shiny mystery boxes that we won't touch for a dozen turns because they voted for books instead of cash.

I misread your post and thought you wanted to go to Ulthuan for other stuff.

Can't we defer the Elfcation to later? The Waystone project is almost ready to be complete on our side of things.
Can't we complete the Waystone project later? Its not like we're suddenly going to run out of waystone actions to take or miss any ceremonies or events related to it.

Sure, but that's still where she developed her skillset. She'll generally stick with refining that unless she had some reason to believe she needed to add a completely new element to how she does things, and there's no indication that the Elfcation will be a dramatic escalation from the challenges she's faced before. So the scene where Mathilde pulls out a potion and downs it before she goes into battle when she's never done that before is one that really damages the narrative conceit of Mathilde being an actual person in an actual world, because the reason she'd be downing those now when she hasn't before is actually because the book those potions are in was only released a couple of years ago. Sure, I could just go "oh yeah these were only just invented by some clever potioneer in the Jade Order" but if I encountered that in some other story I would stop reading that story. If a vote makes me I'll come up with a justification for it that makes sense, but you won't like it because it will be coming from a dark place. I can feel The Old World looming on the horizon and with it the waves of people who are going to assume that all of it is canon to this quest, and you probably don't want to run me through a dress rehearsal of that.

If I ever implied that I was asking about Winds of Magic potions instead of Realms of Sorcery potions, just want to say that was not my intent.

If it makes you feel better, The Old World isn't the kind of thing that'll bring waves of people to your quest, and everyone already in the quest knows your policy on new lore.

Narratively, I imagine that the best time to bring out potions is either when an Everchosen is coming, or when Nagash decides to come back.

By the time either of those happen, it may have been enough time that, with the potion books we secured from the Eonir and the Kislevites (which we got from the Elementalists), they'll be marginally safer to consume. Maybe 1 or 2% safer.

I dont want to neccesarily get potions. But, if the info about chaos amassing shows an escalation, and we in character suspect another crusade, would grabbing any advantage for that campaign be in character? Just for that scenario i mean.

Can't we get advantages which aren't consumables? Is Mathilde's value tied up in how much of a beatstick she is?

Comments like this don't ask to delay the Elfcation by one turn, but by n+1 turns, because we've all been there, done this song and dance, and know that no amount of "we'll do it next turn" discussion will actually stop people from talking about delaying it again.

This is an explanation for why my answer is no we can't. I'll vote for any plan with the Elfcation in it regardless of if we could be doing more Waystone stuff instead, because I am long tired of not doing that.

This causes me to imagine the potions as milk jugs labeled 1%, 2% ECT.

We shouldn't let a vocal group of people dominate matters like this.

What does the Elfcation add to the story?
