Panoramia is maybe being a bit overoptimistic in her assessment of Sofia, but I have to imagine that she's mostly correct - based on what we know about her life, it makes perfect sense for Sofia to seek refuge in one of the few places in her life where she has any control.

I'm mostly happy with how my vote went - even if she tries to read the worst into our words, the fundamental aspect of "Mathilde would like for you to succeed even if it's in an unconventional way" seems to have gotten across, and that's a lot already.

Even if she thinks it's just Mathilde trying to add Sofia to her list of accomplishments, that's a heck of an improvement over "she's just waiting eagerly for me to fuck up so she can kill me".

Yeah, my interpretation is that Sofia is a perfectly normal wizard, but the shadow of Sylvania taints everything she does in the eyes of others, and she's withdrawn into the only thing that doesn't judge her—her own magic.

Which unfortunately has just made people judge her even harder.

If she'd joined a sensible order, like the Greys, or maybe a more ephemeral order like the Celestials or Ambers, where politics are an afterthought, she might have turned out fine.

But the Jade Order was completely the wrong environment for her. The Secularists and the Traditionalists are too busy trying to prove their superiority over the other, and neither want to be weighed down by a challenging apprentice.

Can Mathilde learn the anti lightning spell? Or is it gold only?
With a proper application of sufficient magical energies, you can create a lattice of energies in front of a Warp Lightning battery that will direct any shots it might fire straight into the ground, rather than into our troop formations or fortifications.
My read on this is that it's a universal thing, based on how Dhar is attracted to all winds. If the magical energy is sufficient, the dhar "projectile" will be grounded.

Seems like a really good idea for a battle altar tbh.

Not that sure that's practical.

That's not just 'a Battle Altar specifically for Skaven armies', that's 'a Battle Altar specifically for Skaven armies that have Warp Lightning Cannons'.

Also, the usual scenario of facing a Skaven army is tunnel fighting, where you probably would have difficulty getting a Battle Altar into place.

If it can be scaled down to something like a customised Grounding Rod, it'd be worth lugging around from battlefield to battlefield. An actual Battle Altar is a bit unwieldy—the opportunity cost of bringing it is in not bringing a different Battle Altar with a less hyperspecialised effect.

In tunnel fighting though, you might only need to restrict some firing lanes.
Boney mentioned that it's something pretty scaleable: a smaller one might be sufficient in a particular tunnel.

Depending on what happens to the energy, and how difficult they are to make, Dwarfs might want to commission some enchanted items near critical infrastructure like gates.

When the Skaven arrive with their long range guns, only for their shots to get lost in the foggy dew.

I am suprised there is no Celestial lightning cannons. I was hoping they could make one of their own.

I suppose they were not able to copy it for some reason. Warp lightning acts too differently I guess.

Skyre Warlord: Dwarf thing used magic, not stupid scribble-magic, man-thing magic, no-fair dwarf things do not change unless they are fire-dwarf -things. CHEATER! :V

We did not give the thing to the Celestils we gave it to the Golds, they even paid for it with one of their secrets that they do not normally share with others. Why would they turn around to share this thing with another College?

On one hand, Celestial Wizards are nerds even among Wizards, with Hubert being the only one who prefers flying and shooting lightning bolts that we know of.

On the other hand, those Celestial Wizards who we aren't aware of who are also cool and enjoy unleashing the destructive majesty of the heavens upon the foes of the Empire, and are more advanced/skilled than Hubert, would probably scoff at the idea of making magical weapons that shoot lightning when they could instead make magical weapons that shoot meteors at people.

Celestial lightning cannons would just be battle altars that shoot lightning, comparable to a Luminark of Hysh, or a Cannon.

The celestial Hurricanium's ability to summon a storm or a comet is just better.

You find the woman herself in the main hall within the wooden walls, though it takes you a moment to recognize her. Either out of an attempt to outrun her unnatural gauntness or just out of personal inclination towards indulgence, she's gained more than a few pounds that have arranged themselves quite obligingly on her frame. But Arcane Marks are not so easily escaped, and the extra length her limbs have taken on in response has her at well over a foot taller than you even before you add in the extra couple inches provided by her amethyst-topped crown. The overall effect is rather striking, and combined with the combined ossuary and throne room she's turned the main hall into, there's probably not many in the Border Princes who won't be at least a little intimidated, and probably a range of other emotions as well.

Gretel put on weight from eating a bunch of food, but her Arcane Mark said she should be gaunt and thin. Instead of simply making her lose weight, it instead made her taller in an attempt to make her gaunt and thin by stretching her out. She's currently winning the race.

Other way around. If you've got an Arcane Mark making you awkwardly proportioned, then your body is going to try to maintain those proportions even if you alter your body shape. Because it's not actually a physical mutation, it's the physical manifestation of an altered soul.

Honestly, I had the image of Lady Dimitrescu in my head before you had to correct it with your logic.

Eike: Her shadow can tear apart beastmen and orcs. She says it is no more dangerous than any other shadow.
Eike: And did you see her sword?
Sofia: No?
Eike: EXACTLY! It's always there, ready to appear.
--
Eike: Then there's Wolf the wolf, her dog...
--
Mathilde, listening in: ... if only poor little Eike knew about my special reserve B O O K S

I literally thought it was like,

Vampires- Huh, this death wizard seems very Dark Lady like, I should feel her out about cooperating against the foolish living and joining us in glorious unlife.
Gretel- Kills them.

And this like, repeatedly happening.

Oh, it being vampire hunters makes a lot more sense then actually having a ton of vampire visiting her abode.

I uh also totally missed the sentence was supposed to be 'Vampire Hunters and Witch Hunters' and thought Gretel had a period where vampires were walking into her traps like cultural lemmings

Man, I'm really not sure. My best guess is that it utilizes Cathayan magical axioms which we don't quite understand? Wish they hadn't fuckin shattered it, I suspect Mathilde could've gotten far more out of it.

Edit: it could be relying on the Yin-Yang dynamic to do the restructuring which would make sense.
I'm pretty sure the Gold is talking about fractals, as the speed that the crystal blade grew at allowed the self repeating pattern of crystalline formation to be easily studied

If you're wondering why fractals are so important that the Gold is claiming those studies may eventually outweigh literally everything else they've achieved with the Skaven tech, Fractal Analysis has applications in everything from histopathology and cancer research, to geography, to seismology, to electronics and lots more

For one specific example, the Fractal Antenna
Normal radio antenna are only useful for specific frequencies that are defined by their length
Fractal antennas on the other hand are
1. Multiband due to having two or more repeating iterations of itself, allowing it to operate with good performance at many different frequencies simultaneously
2. Extremely compact

That an Eishin was using this to just make a regrowing sword is kinda like seeing someone use a motherboard as a knife

Pretty much every Vampire and Witch Hunter in the Borderlands pays me a visit
Given the apparent widespread confusion over this sentence, maybe change it to something like 'everyone hunting Vampires and Witches'?

(I'd have suggested 'Vampire-and-Witch Hunter', but that would imply that she was visited exclusively by people who hunt both)

My one, singular regret about the Gretel section is that there wasn't a return of the "May shadows guide you / death pass over you" totally-not-ritual-greeting from the first time we met her. Or at least, if it happened, we didn't see it onscreen. That bit between the two Colleges was always a detail I really enjoyed.

Though, I suppose it does lose some of its in-universe luster when there aren't other types of wizards in the room to bullshit to...

Other than that, though, I'm stoked to have finally seen Gretel again. Glad she's doing well for herself!

"I'm Panoramia's paramour, which makes me something of a bystander to this chapter of your saga."

No part of her body language, which is entirely appropriate to that of a suitably respectful Apprentice, changes in response to your words, but you can see the fear in her soul diffuse very slightly. "A pleasure, Lady Magister."
This really just does go to show that honesty would have been the best policy - We didn't give nearly enough hickies to panoramia in that scene to fully reassure Sophia. :(
