It doesn't make sense to me to increase the chances of writing a poorer quality book, better to either just wait one turn after we show the orbs to finish it (My preferred option) or delay showing the orbs one turn to finish the book at the same time (Max flash, and realistically the orbs will be sitting in secure storage almost all the time anyway so not actually a huge cost.)

If the Liminal Realms research is done next turn (with or without the coin), the Orbs turn can be something like:

Action 1: Make Orbs
Action 2: Write AV Book (second book-writing action done through SERENITY)
Actions 3-6: Other stuff (it's an overwork turn)

If the liminal realms research is put off next turn for safety concerns or lack of space and has to be done on the orb turn, that's still 3 free actions on the orb turn to put towards Waystones/Webmat/etc.

I don't think it's really an issue. There's enough slack that we could theoretically do the orb dunk, write and publish the AV book, and go on the elfcation in the same turn if we gave up on all other commitments. It would be a hilarious power-move to just fuck off to Ulthuan for three months after dumping all that on the colleges, but probably not a good idea.

You could certainly do that if you wanted to spend an action writing it sure. Personally, considering how few papers we have left (Well, there's the huge coin backlog, but I don't really count those) I'd prefer just doing it through the tower over a longer period, but yeah your proposed order of operations would avoid the issue of writing with incomplete information.

My possibly heretical opinion is that we should release the book on the same turn as we hand off the Morbs.
This isn't heretical at all, in fact I even proposed such a course a year ago and it had a bit of support.
Skipping over the library vote, I have this to say about the AV: if we want to flex even harder, I think it would be a great idea to have the book on it ready, so that when we drop the Orbs of Sorcery and the Colleges ask how it was accomplished, we can go "Read my book and find out."
In fact, as far as I know this was in fact the plan we had for releasing AV.

However, while we can start writing the book before Morbing or doing liminal realm study and then try to add those things in the following turn, I'm 90% sure that Boney said that this could end up giving us a malus to writing the book, as it might be hard to incorporate the new discoveries into a half-written book.
You're correct, though 'could' is pulling a lot of weight here.
@Boney if we start writing the AV book, can we then do the liminal realm-securing action before finishing the book - not writing that chapter yet, so to speak - or is writing a book a more holistic exercise than that?
If nothing in the realm-securing research uncovers anything that spills over into other 'chapters', then yes, that's possible. If there is new information that will need to be incorporated into already-written chapters, it'd be troublesome, probably in the form of a malus to the next writing roll as Mathilde has to spend some of her writing time on adding in the new discoveries.

Maybe we should try to get Eike and Egrimmin the same room first for a bit before we try assigning them to a group project.
I'd be in favour of this - espically since the windfall paper runs the risk of understated emotional intensity and if that happens I think Egrimm would prefer to keep that between him and Mathilde, but do you have any ideas on how to get them to interact?

Put them in separate rooms with a window open between them so they slowly get used to each other or...?
But by the tenth or hundredth it's not only cheaper, but in extreme cases the crews have grown experienced enough for the savings in later projects to offset the costs and delays of the original.
This is absurd.

There's no way that there's going to be any more than... 30 canals on the scale of the Black Water made.

I think it's not that unlikely. Both the Morbing and the Liminaling could provide insights into the nature of vitae itself, as Morbing involves the primodrial Winds and the liminal relam study involves the fact that something in the liminal barrier is turning Aethyr into Winds. It might be that further study of those issues provides no novel insights - the Morbing in particular is unlikely to teach as anything new unless Mathilde somehow finds a way to observe the creation of the primodrial Winds - but it sure would suck if we gain Shattering insights and then struggle to put them to paper because we didn't want to wait a single turn.

If you think the Windfall paper is too sensetive for the first Eike-Egrimm interaction you can vote for studying the Kurgan weapons or Kurgan Shrine with him instead, as both of those are also things I think we would want to put Eike on.

Next turn, we can go Egrimm+Eike on Windfall, train our windsight on Pall of Darkness with Eike, everyone on Foundation, do liminal research, go punch some apparitions with Johann, and study lustrian rubbings with Max and Eike. Which I think fills out all available actions and does most projects people wanted to do on a single turn.

No shit? Guards Guards was my first Discworld book as well, the entire Guards mini-series was my favourite, I'd recommend all of those books.
Me four! And it was one my neighbor randomly happened to have.

Mathilde skimmed the most interesting while transporting them, so ask away.
Oddly enough, I am most curious about the Extensive Imperial books on Hashut. How do Imperial scholars relate to him? And how much of it is written by a certain (L.) M. Grey?
I don't understand. Which four limbed ones are we talking about and how do they end up green(skins)?
When first meeting Alkharad, did he not recognize the Ulgu Shadowsteed? Since he listed off guesses like a Myrmidian priestess or Witch Hunter, who shouldn't know that spell. (Vaguely remember this might be a repeated question)
Alkohol never saw the Shadowsteed in person. He only saw it through the eyes of his undead ambush animals. We also were riding at normal speeds to keep pace with Roswita and her entourage. The first time he met Mathilde in person was in his lab.

[X] Sofia
[X] Gold College
[X] Middenland
[X] Druchii Diplomats
[X] Wissenland

I am a bit surprised that both Middenland and the Druchii Diplomats have so few votes (both less than a third of the voters are voting for it). Finding out more about the whole Eonir Ulricans thing is imminently relevant to us and has been put off for so long. And the Druchii Diplomats had so much more support last turn, even when compared to the four older options that are now surpassing it. What made people change their minds? Did the ethics discussion regarding trade with them sour player opinions? I admit that I didn't read most of the comments (thread moves too fast for that), but I didn't glimpse any new arguments regarding Gretel, the Black Water Canal, the Gold College, or the Skull River Ambush. Only the old arguments with one turn worth of urgency added, which applies equally to all old options.

Here is the current draft of the plan I am going to propose next turn:

[ ] Plan Bring a good pair of running shoes
-[ ] JOHANN: Hunt an apparition (Rider in Red)
--[ ] COIN: The Gambler
-[ ] MAX: Study an artefact (Lustrian Rubbings)
-[ ] EGRIMM: Write a paper (Observations on the Windfall north of the Dark Lands)
-[ ] Waystone: Foundation (Everyone)
-[ ] Waystone: Other Networks (Karaz Ankor) (Thorek)
-[ ] Attempt to create a liminal realm
-[ ] EIC: Negotiate and plan a magical route through the Schadensumpf to allow for easier trade with the Eonir without compromising their defenses
-[ ] KAU: Begin copying the full corpus of a Partner Library (Grand University of Nuln)
-[ ] SERENITY: Aethyric Vitae Part 1
-[ ] Eike Actions: Lustrian Rubbings study, Windfall paper, Waystone Foundation, EIC action
-[ ] Eike Study: Intrigue (Red Team against EIC)

I really want to capture a Rider in Red, and there is lots of opportunity for luck to help in finding one and capturing one so I added The Gambler to it. I also want to explore the Karaz Ankor network with Thorek, so we can start understanding how it is different from the standard Elven network, and start planning for any needed work as a result. I also want to create a liminal realm in the Badlands, and bring running shoes for if it goes wrong again. I have the Serenity action as the first part of the AV book so we can finish it at the same time as we Morb, but I could probably be persuaded to start on the Branarhune book instead (which we probably wouldn't want to share too widely).

Do we have some filler topic to do research for serenity? We might get some significant insights from the Liminal creation which I don't think we should risk.

Everything else seems good to me. We probably should take a look at dwarven system, see if we can glean something useful.

[ ] Set up a no-questions-asked bounty system for books within the Cult of Ranald

@Boney I had a few, questions about how this would work.

I think it's been mentioned that we could define what kind of books we wanted being as specific or vague as we wanted so would this work: "Any magical book, not imperial not dwarven. Any book not from the Old World (Asur, Cathay, Ind, Nippon, Araby, etc.)"

And how would it work mechanically, as in, would we receive books at the end of each turn about the topic we set without spending further AP for as long as we don't cancel the bounty, or would we only receive them once and then need to either renew or set up a new bounty (spending 1AP) to continue receiving books?

Also related to KAU, does the Cult of Ranald have books? If so is there a way we could access them?

-[ ] Eike Actions: Lustrian Rubbings study, Windfall paper, EIC action

I'd like Eike in the foundations action so she can see a lot of magical experts discussing ideas. It's not like it's common to see so many magical experts of different magical traditions working together and it could impress into Eike the importance of collaborating with people to achieve results that would be impossible for just one person, or even one institution, alone.

This seems like a good non-Father plan to me. The only change I think I would make is looking into Bugman's nexus rather than the Karaz Ankor network: I think that is more likely to be applicable to what we're currently doing, and as we get closer to prototyping Waystones I want to get every piece of relevant information, but I can definitely see the reasoning behind doing the Karaz Ankor network action instead.

I also think we might want to consider switching the Windfall paper for either the Kurgan weapons or the Shrine, as we don't really need the CF right now, but otoh I don't want to draw the ire of the Cabal.
Do we have some filler topic to do research for serenity? We might get some significant insights from the Liminal creation which I don't think we should risk.
We have four books and one paper on ancient coins. If we're truly desperate for a filler paper we can do 'Coins of Nehekhara's Fifth Dynasty' in one turn, but if you're worried specifically about liminal creation then @LawsOfRobotics's plan is fine as it is, since it does the liminal realm study on the same turn we starting writing the Vitae book, so I think the study will be complete in time for the book.

With the canal, someone checked and it was supposed to be done years ago, so some kind of funky delay's going on that's stopping us from making loadsamoney.

There aren't any other options besides coins, and we did a lot of study on the nature and safety of AV that we can write up in part 1.

Good point, added.

Nobody wants to give Eike one of the mountain coughs that is in the Ranalds Shrine. A bird would perfectly fine familiar, messenger or extra eyes to give her brids eye view.

@Boney

Do all wizards in this quest's system follow the same mechanical power progression of starting at magic 1? (and getting stronger as they get a Mark of X, staff, etc.)

Or do outliers like the specific Perpetual apprentices who's issues are narratively noted to be not having enough magical strength to progress further start with a -1 to magic or something, while super prodigies like canon Balthasar Gelt for instance start with a +1 to magic?
