Addendum to Rule 27: Vampirism also has literal immortality*. As this is a survival guide, you really can't top that.

*Depending on circumstances, you may regret your survival. The creators of this guide are in no way liable for the costs and pain of survival.

Also, Abhorash fought an Emperor Dragon solo and won, so we know he is at least really, really good at fighting. Gives you a nice example to aspire to in your newly immortal state.

Huh. So Kurtis has been doing the job for us that was actually supposed to be the Senior Fellow's. I had completely conflated the two in my mind.
It could just be an overlap in their responsibility. Or Krammovitch could also be doing the Senior Fellow's job because there isn't one right now. Or some other option I haven't thought of.

It's not said what form of Dragon Abhorash fought. Just that he fought and killed one. It could just as easily have been a Sun Dragon.

Technically being a Daemon Prince also has literal immortality, although the extent to which you remain 'you' is debatable. Vampirism has its own issues, chief among them the enforced cannibalism eroding your moral values and being a slave to your sire. I think the reason there is a lot of support for the idea of 'good vampires' is because unlike say a 'good daemon prince' they are possible in a white room situation.

You wake up on the side of the road, the coppery taste of blood in your nostrils... your own... it is sharp, bitter, dead You probe our teeth with your tongue, they are sharp like a wolf. Your stomach twists and turns with alien hunger. As your senses expand along the road you can hear the sound of hearts beating quickly, steel ringing.

A rough voice calls out from behind you: 'Give us all your money nice and slow you hear?'

The hunger grows.

See that little snippet up there, that is the origin story for vampire batman and it would make a nice quest maybe, but the fact of the matter is that you need to be a quest protagonist or something like that to find yourself in that situation. Most people who end up vampires to not have that freedom, they likely have their sires feeding their mortal families to them inch by screaming inch, as a way to divorce them from their old world. Vampirism natively encourages sociopathy and the people who can hand it out are all sociopaths.

The Senior Fellow is the person other colleges approach if they want to collaborate with the Grey College. If a Bright or an Amber wanted to work on the waystone project, they send a letter to the Senior Fellow, who then contacts us. We don't need to contact the Senior Fellow at all.

The Senior Fellow is the person that Wizards from other Colleges go to if they want to collaborate with the Grey College. If someone from one of the other Colleges was interested in the Waystone Project but they didn't have a line of communication with Mathilde, they'd go to the Senior Fellow. If someone outside the Colleges had a problem or a question about the Project and they didn't have a line of communication with Mathilde, they'd go to the Senior Fellow. But Mathilde, needless to say, already has a line of communication with Mathilde. If Mathilde wanted advice about dealing with other Colleges she could go to the Senior Fellow, but it's not expected or required for her to go through them for her own dealings with other Colleges.

I think Mathilde has a specialty for dealing with odd and out of place misfit Wizards more than traditional ones. Just look at how bizarre the K8P Wizards club looks like. Most people who take on adventures to a place that is as far as K8P for adventure tend to be the ones who don't want to stick around, so it makes sense why all the K8P Wizards are so weird (well with the exception of Esbern and Seija, who are typical Amber Wizards, but they left instead of sticking around).

Now I want to know, how does Horstmann compare to the average Light Wizard? Is he more eccentric or is he what is expected of one? He's the only Light Wizard Mathilde has interacted with extensively that hasn't exploded, so no real frame of reference here.

I really do hope that the words 'your the first Light Wizard I have worked with that didn't explode' gets said in quest.

I commisioned my brother @BlueBirdHay (that's his twitter handle) to draw Mathilde. He took an artistic liberty with Mathilde's eyes but I think it's pretty cool. Here it is:

For some reason, it's not showing up. When I clicked the link I had to remove the "s" from https to get it to show up. Did he make it public?

Neat.

I take she is supposed to look like a figurine? She has that hard plastic sheen.

(Also her eyes kinda remind me of the description of properly gilded eyes.)

Oh no that's just his art style. Look at my current profile picture, it's an idealised version of me I comissioned from him.

Very colorful artist. Nothing compares to the gender euphoria the art gave me.

At least she has a proper Dawi braid. Now if only she would finally grow a proper bear.

...please, leave this type preserved for all to see.

Pan: "Mathilde, you look... ah, different today. Is something wrong?"

Mathilde: "Nah, I've just decided to grow a bear."

Bear: "GROWWWLRR!!"

Mathilde: "Isn't he adorable~?"

Pan: "...still not the most eccentric thing she's ever done."

Hmm? There is nothing to preserve, since the post is exactly as it should be. I'm not going to edit it for no reason. Everyone knows a proper Dwarf should have a bear.

How would they do that if the Senior Fellow's identity is redacted even to someone like a newly minted Grey Lady Magister?

Those various positions aren't actually redacted in most cases, that was just a cute in-universe way for me to cover up the names of the positions that Boney hadn't assigned to a particular person yet. I imagine Mathilde knows who the Dean is, for example, but Boney hadn't come up with an NPC for the role yet.
