Simon already got most of it, but the other Holds are a bit busy with their own problems. Night goblins, regular goblins, and skaven have been attacking the Deeps of many of the other Holds for a while now. They're appreciative, and thankful, but of course nothing could be the lava, can't be the lava, nothing ever beats the lava, the Gates of Karaz-a-Karak are impenetrable, nothing could break them, nothing and no one and nothing and even if you get past all the traps and otherwise oooh they've got lava.

And there's been no messages or messengers sent between the holds since the siege started, but it's not like that's an unusual thing. Dwarfs are used to years passing between knowledge exchanges with one another, especially if a hold is long under siege and something might have happened to their gyrocopter corps.

So the lava probably handled it. Because nothing could be the lava or the powerful rune in the Gates of Karaz-a-Karak.
You have talked so much about the lava being unbeatable that now all I want to do is beat the fecking lava and spend time thinking of beating the lava. Just as well it already got beat. Damn now I get what was going on through the orcs minds. The surest way to actually get an ork to think harder is tell them something cannot be beat.

"Zog that!"

Well said mysterious ork that infiltrated my post.

I wonder how Frederick (the younger) is doing in all this chaos. I guess he got his lust for adventure satiated even though he didn't go to the coast.

With all those beastman running amock? It's all you can kill buffet for young mercenaries. Funny thing, he needs Anty Sabine permissions to expand operations as well as parents permissions to kick ass more liberatly, but its hard to refuse his debut being made at opportune time to form some renown. With other mercs busy. We'll see how smart he's about it.

He's currently inside Wulfenburg. Anna is running things in Ostland at the moment while Arthur remains at the coast, with Magnus down in Talabecland. Anna decided that no other Hohenzollerns are going to be putting themselves at risk, and the absolute most fortified location in Ostland currently is Wulfenburg Castle inside of Wulfenburg itself.

2. How 'open' would dwarfs would be to an idea of Sigmar oriented crusade levied against all unwanted gribbers of say Black mountains?
just swing by, beat everything dwarfs have umbrage with and mayby negotiate some outposts to make trade routs more safe on their end... just to saturate the area with some welcomed human presence so there is more dwarfs doing not fighting stuff...

Or straight up browbeat High king into accepting help in reclaiming Karag Varn (the one by Black water), with understanding that there will be more humans than dwarfs on that one.
(Assuming all survive current problems)
Essentially asking how likely is Karaz Ankor to be more open about humans fighting on their turf in reclamation effort...

It's literally never been done, so...there is that. One of the major friction points in Imperial-Dwarf relations, and this has come up in the past nine or so years IRL but sparsely here and there, but Imperials never do that. They've never done that. Once. Dwarfs come to help Imperials again and again. Dwarfs teach them about steel, plate armor, gunpowder, smithing and masonry techniques, and they swear oaths of friendship and alliance that the dwarfs maintain regularly, dying and fighting and what not in greater Imperial causes plenty. But you get, at most, a handful of human mercenaries now and again utilized by less advantaged dwarf Lords, like canon Karak Azgal's little town at the bottom, things like that. The occasional potential allowance into K8P with Belegar running things at the Citadel. And sometimes the Imperials will even go to war against the dwarfs, or vice versa, over mineral rights or whatever, or larger Grudges. Ortrud doing what she did, actively throwing her full on State Troops into the mountains alongside Karak Kadrin in forging the way towards Karak Ungor, is something that I simply couldn't find much other examples of in the timelines.

Though, I would mention, it's not liable to be something that is excessively powerful or popular - as in literal terms of population. Reclaiming old Holds and the like is usually a very slow, grinding affair. Karak Ungor was greased lightning on steroids falling down a frictionless slope by comparison. Lots of humans just...don't want to commit to multi-year long deployments like that, especially if payment is chancy. See, dwarfs actually super fucking hate it when humans try to go and treasure hunt lost Holds, outposts, and the like. All of that shit belongs to them. Their clans, their guilds, their family, and you know they've got stringent records on it. Remember the comically large sheet drawn up between the dwarfs and Bilbo in the universe of Lord of the Rings? Like, promissory allowances to certain amounts of gold, and not a coin more. You're telling mercenaries not to sneak a golden cup or two, a gemstone that was laying on the ground that might or might not have been once encrusted upon this or that piece of jewelry or statuary? Difficult. Same to most state troops too, it's just kind of basic human nature, who knows if Ranald or what not would even cajole them further into doing it. You could try to have Priests of Sigmar watching everyone without blinking, but there's still a good few avenues of failure.

You will not be browbeating the High King on shit for dick, I can say that for damn sure though. No human is going to go up to the dwarfs and tell them that they're going to be doing something to dwarf land and holds and they need to just deal with it, because that ends with the dwarfs killing the person saying it, if not then and there then when they show up to said location and get attacked by the waiting dwarf throng.

If that is so, because there might well be a Discord upswell for someone else more deserving, it would be undoubtedly because winners can't be voted for again to win in an endless loop, but still, pretty neat stuff. Appreciate you all for voting even after the more painful recent update :)

@torroar congrats! votes closed, unless there's an additional pool of votes on discord or something it looks like you won!
There is a secondary step to the voting, but this first step is over with this quest having the largest number of votes.

The five most-nominated threads in each category will then go forward to the Voting Phase, where one will be selected as the winner!

We should keep an eye on things for when the next round of voting with the five winners of the nominations begins.

The Awards will be run in a similar way to how we run our Council elections, with a two week period for nominations, running from now on Sunday the 1st of December to midnight onSunday the 15th of December. The top five nominations for each category will then go forward for the voting round. This will be a two week period for voting, running from midnight on Monday the 16th of December to the midnight of Tuesday the 31st of December. The winners will then be announced on New Year's Day, Wednesday the 1st of January, as we ring in the New Year!

Done got got by a sickness again, bleh. Just...constant sneezing, constant congestion in the nose, watering eyes so bad I'm carrying around a dang towel rather than use up all the tissues, blagh. And yet, like, zero fever. Absolutely awful. Getting real tired of this kind of bullshit, but I'm still going to keep trying to grind out the writing. Then again, I've had like, constant sneezing episodes for what feels like a few months at this point, but nothing like these past few weeks congestion, or the horror show that was yesterday. Never been like this before. Doing a bit better today though, so hopefully I'm on the upswing.

Truly, turning older than 30 was a mistake. I am a fragile little husk of dust it feels like, some days.

If you can afford it economically and logistically go and get some Vitamin C supplements to drink/eat and use a double the recommended dose on the packaging so long as you feel like a husk of dust. Should help you clear that up.

Also it has nothing to do on being older than 30 in and of itself. I suspect that I have at least 5 years of age on you and my immune system still responds to most infections with:

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWxBrI0g1kE

Like even COVID-19, the first time I got it bad, didn't really lay me out and I went to the hospital more to keep an eye on my sibling, not worry the rest of my family and not infect more people than because it was an impediment to me personally.

Bummer your immune system is already having issues this young, hope you get better man.

Anna decided that no other Hohenzollerns are going to be putting themselves at risk, and the absolute most fortified location in Ostland currently is Wulfenburg Castle inside of Wulfenburg itself.
on the bright side whatever scheme, the vampires who've been scoping out the castle were cooking up has been scuttled before it could even begin now that the dark elfs have raised the alarm for infiltrators and kidnappers

@torroar i see your point concerning human crusades to regain dwarf holds, but ain't plausible that with the positive example of the karak ungor campaign and the hopefully positive example of karaz a karak that in the future human crusades might be mobilized for such a thing? Of course in a supportive role, but, say, magnus in ten years, should he still be alive, organizing a crusade in cooperation with thorgrim, based on their previous cooperation for such a thing? Not necessarily even for karak ungor 2.0 but recovering a bunch of minor holds or mines

While I agree with your reasoning I think 20 years is far to soon for anything like that to happen if only because the recovery needed for the Empire and Karak Ankor will be massive after both the Beast-tide and the Great Waaagh.

Perhaps under the next generation of leaders of the Empire (and if Thorgrim survives it will increase the liklihood) there will be a greater cooperation to cleanse the mountains form their common enemies.

Just my thoughts on this.

yeah. especially since, as far as i see it, doing so is massively in the empire's interest. Even outside of helping their stallwart allies, the mountains contain masses of greenskins, skaven and beastmen that often strike down upon the empire. They contain necromancers and chaos cults and untold amounts of other horrors.

Of course, the same could be said for the forests of the empire, but I think the logistical support of the dwarfs plus the fact that the dwarfs would settle and fortify regained ground makes cleansing at least some of the mountains a bit more viable than cleansing, say, the drakwald

Grand Lector: "Hear me sons and daughters of the Empire! For we have eered! For far too long We had taken the friendship of Dawi for granted! Shame! Shame upon us! Shame upon Empire and faithfull of Sigmar for we permited our friends and allies to suffer unaided. It is time long overdue to faithfull of Heldenhammer to repay their debts! to cleanse the mountain they call home and ensure their reclamatinon of their birthrigt! Lot no greed guide you I will personay fllog each and every honorelss thief before thowing them to dwarfs to deal with! No Hold or settlement be entered uninvited for we know boundries of ones home! let every beast and green know their stay had come to an end! WE have grudges to strike down and friends to aid! By Sigmar , he will not find us wanting!
*cue to roar of a cheer of hundred thousand zealouts*
Some king in letter to High king :"What do you want me to do about that?! I can keep them out of holds and settlements for a bit, but by Grumgi there is more of them than I have dwarfs under my comand. Would be an insult and a half to not make some use out of the situation."

I think we are underestimating the sheer bloody gall and dedication some people are capable of. Plus some of current leaders are competent enough to actually plan some contingencies. Sure it will never be perfect, and we're likely to end up with some grudges to hunt down, but the potential benefits would be convincing enough to at least give it a try?

Something to sit on anyway. Ungor did happen after all. and Thorgrim did make his oath of reclamation. Something will ... be considered?

Oh, goodness, no I wouldn't say that it's impossible to happen at all, nor that there wouldn't be support for it. It's just that, more often than not, the Empire has a lot going on. They're shorter-lived than dwarfs, a lot of humans want to accomplish stuff in their own lifetime, die peacefully after all that, and so on. Plus, there's the beastmen, the greenskins, Chaos, etc. Dwarfs never actually have to deal with internal Chaos stuff and Cults like the Empire does. It's damn near impossible for a Dawi Zharr to ever appear like a regular Dawi, you know what I mean?

Additionally, sort of my point in singling out how the Empire has never attempted major large scale military aid to the dwarfs in canon for anything, is that Ortrud and Frederick did help tip the needle a little bit. A lot of things come down to inertia. If it's been done once, it might well happen again more easily than if it never has. But it's certainly a project/concept for the farther future, depending on how things shake out going forward.

Yay! We set a precedence! Looking forward to imperial outposts and dwarfs grumbling bout 'turists'. XD

Another outlandis idea!: An 'order' either knightly or religious or both of Sigmar. One detached from main cult to the degree that only Grand Theologian can tell them otherwise. One sworn to High King rather than Emperor. While core members would be fanatics of Sigmar fighting for their God or against dark in distance places dou to having no connections to their own kin. Another big broup could be formed of 'endebted' shich is essentially people who have grudges levied against their ancestors and are here set things right or die trying.

What would be annoing to many is that they fight where dwarfs tell them to. As well as being somewhat founded by Empire as a diplomatic effort to better relations. with the big thing being their treasurer is a dwarf, perhaps. Or having all 'earned' equipment of dwarfen make stay in the order... or other ways to bind them further.

It would not be impropable to see something like that form after the siedge of Karaz A Karak... who knows... Would love to see that

Another outlandis idea!:

I think what Regina ,and knights of Fiery Heart to some extent, had been doing is similar to what you proposed. Like a "proto" version of it. Honestly, I can see the current GT cooking up something like this. Big Magnus and Thorgrim should both be on more cooperation train and after KaK siege even dwarf long beards would grumble a little bit less.

Now I wonder, hypothetically where may a dwarf great throng human crusade target after dust is settled and recovery period is done. Karak Eight Peaks would be very cool but I feel like either Silverspear or Karak Drazh may be more logical with distance and such.

Karak Varn, or as it is known currently : Cragmire . The hold south(-west) of Zhufbar controled (last I heard) by Clan Eshin. Need to remember to take Gray order and other anti assasins we have. According to lore, is has the greatest veins of Gromnir, so that would be usefull. Plus it's close to Mootland so supply train should be easy part.

Edit:
Puts it lower on the reclamation priority list because of that.
Would dissagre. Will elaborate later.

Its also, well, flooded as all shit.

Clearing out the Skaven is important, but after that is done, its still a decades to centuries long effort in reclamation of the halls from the waters of the Black Water Lake.

Puts it lower on the reclamation priority list because of that.

Oh no. I just realized that our friendly neighbour Glade Lord might have children same-ish age as Gwen...
Now I will let imagination take the reins. Cause if they happen to visit Freddy at the same time... there will be casualties.
