To be fair the beastide is kinda a desperation move that only work if they sucker punch civilization.

What REALLY make the concept of ordertide so terrifying is that once start hitting is because the order cartel knows they can keep doing the pace with it.

Exchange?"

"Correct."

"What to exchange?"

"Gold acceptable, knowledge preferred."

"Arms and armor unacceptable."

"Understood."

"Ornamentation loss acceptable."

"Understood. Knowledge unacceptable?"

"…subject matter depends."

"Elaborate."

"Cannot. Ask. Answer will reveal."

"Very well."
Hmmm yes. Same brain

Very good, both scenes from the kids. Very happy the lizardmen are getting their stuff back as well! Poor scalies

Can we negotiate with Ulthuan for some Asur horses?
I really don't see it.

Setting aside that the Asur probably need their horses themselves, Elven Steeds are highly intelligent beings (in some cases they are literally depicted with human-equivalent intelligence) that live for hundreds of years, and the Asur treat them more as treasured companions and family members than mere animals.

And even if Frederick could make sure they are treated properly, the problem is convincing the Asur of that. That not only would Frederick personally treat the elven horses with proper respect and care, but that everyone else who will be riding them, caring for them and treating them when they're ill, will be doing the same, for hundreds of years after Frederick is dead, that none of his great-great-great-grandchildren ever go "they're just horses". Which would be a tall ask to accomplish, but convincing the Asur that we could do it would be practically impossible.

Also we don't really need to be faster or smarter we need stronger breeds to cary armory. Roid horses like bretonia.

Wich are a pain in the half for entirely different reasons.

Honestly truly magical beast rearing should be entrusted to laureon.

Is there any thought of creating a breeding ground for war beasts for the empire? We have the resources and alliances to make this possible, and it would be nice to have air cavalry on hippogriffs, pegasi, griffons, or earthen demi-griffons that haven't appeared yet. I know it would still be difficult, but if it worked, it would provide great benefits and compensate for some of the empire's shortcomings.

Welcome my dude to the Exotic Beast Lobbying Gang :V

Even I have to wait for Freddy loot and attention to fund my Sabretusk domestication program for Skaven hunting among other things…
Moar furries to to ransack the Skaven of course!

I want to resubmit my proposal in bringing in a sustainable sabertusk population, caretakered by our ogre hunters into our borders for the express purpose in driving them ratsies out of their hideyholes… and also having something cool our elite men (Champions, knights, captains, etc.) to ride in.

Can't have Gunthar beat us in the exotic furries department after all!

Just look down after my posts to see why chat and Tor aren't really enthusiastic in finally putting in the 'cat' to the mice problem.

As an Ark aligned with the city of Clar Karond, it had also a major temple complex on it belonging to the Goddess known as Anath Raema, the Savage Huntress.

Just realized we're really performing alot of Blasphemy against Anath Raema. Ruined her plans to get into Kurnous's loincloth, killed her avatar, probably slew a champion of her wild hunt in Findol, and now we've taken out a mid-level Black Arc dedicated to her.

Lets not even mention that fact that we've been jerking Khaine around. Khorn may not care where the blood flows, but Khaine certainly does. We killed one his best, one of his starters, and humbled him. Then before we killed that Devotee that managed to get himself into our Greatswords...

All I'm saying is, some of the elven pantheon may start hating us as much as the Chaos Gods...

I mean half of the reason that ark that was there was even there was because freddy help her avatar get implaed by Korunos's spear but in a bad way.

As for Kahine, well the relationship is a bit more weird. By his own philosophy the god hates everything, Freddy defies and denies what is his but he is not doing it in other ways that being the better murrderer than any fuckup that goes after him on his name. He is not Tyrion level of "why the best murrderers alway defy me" but it's similar shit. Trough he can try to influence Freddy like he does with tyrion, the unlikely aliance of the golden hammer asshole, and the black angry monster slayer make things hard. Also surprising Isha Shows some notable intrest and half what she does is deny khaine.

On a completely different note, for better or worse Magnus, Ana and Arthur will make empire wide names for themselves. Like fully entirely separate entities from his father's name for themselves.

Ruined her plans to get into Kurnous's loincloth,

Freddy got there first ya know, hairy and flaming!

All I'm saying is, some of the elven pantheon may start hating us as much as the Chaos Gods...

On the flipside, I think we're up there in the books of some of the Cadai:

Loec for one; the amusements coming out of Freddy never seems to end. Isha, for the amount of elf daughters we tend to endear.

As for Morai-Heg? The Crow-Goddess might not lean either way. But if Freddy's recent spent fate point, his death dealing-fate breaking hands and his relationship with Morai-Wen are any indication, Freddy's at least; currently in her good graces.

By the way @torroar are we going to get a scene with Magnus/Any of the other Northern trio interacting with the Albionese Giant or Truthsayer?

Mena is in Nordland right now.

Reinhardt is... uh. I dunno actually. He might be at Salkalten, Nordland, or returned to Ostermark? I can't remember what happened to him.

Anyways, these interludes seem to be showing snapshots of the other Freddy kids Hohenzollerns. That's Magnus's scene complete. Anna's scene is complete. Arthur's scene, maybe complete. Or Arthur might get some more shown since the interlude title didn't have his name in it. Leaving Agatha and Alisa, Alexandra, and Logan. Five out of Seven left, or three out of seven, perhaps two interludes left. Or one left if Logan were to be left out.

Yeah, unlikely to get a scene with Magnus von Hohenzollern interacting with the Albish from the Black Ark on Salkalten's shores from this set of Interludes. Reinhardt might have done something, but that would be a scene for himself, or as a report to Anna. If Reinhardt stayed, and even if he helped a bit then left.

I'd say Arthur's interlude got folded into Anna's because he was in Salkalten with her. By that logic the Death Twins will be in Alexandra's interlude since they are in Kislev.

We already got a shit ton of those all over the province. Issue is, i don't think swivel guns got the fire power and range to be really effective against Dragons. Demi Culverins and falconets however defenitely do
We have smaller size guns, yes, but those are muzzleloaders and use carriages that have very limited elevation and traverse ranges making them difficult to aim at flying targets and unable to put out enough firepower to reliably hit them, as demonstrated by our artillery's failure at Salkalten. The guns I am proposing are specifically breechloaders and are supposed to have specialised carriages that would allow for easier aiming at flying targets.

With regards to the lack of firepower, keep in mind that if those guns force the heavy flyer to stay away or can force it to the ground by damaging the wings, that is good enough, because a heavy flyer that stays away has limited ability to contribute to the fighting, whereas the grounded one can be targeted with our heavier guns or by other assets (ogres, tanks, lancers, halberdiers even) much more easily then the flying one.

Range could be an issue, absolutely, but AAA with limited range is still better then no AAA.
Why do we need so many anti dragon weapons?
Dragons are the most prominent, most recent and most dangerous example, but any super heavy flyer, be they Wyverns, terrorgheists, manticores, winged greater demons etc. are all viable targets for the proposed guns.
We probably can make a better reloading system to the titan canons. Fill the area with shrapnel would take down a dragon if you hit.

These thing can't fly without wings.
Given the sheer mass and size of the Titan canon that is a big IF. Not against it, but I think smaller guns first would be better.
Dragons are not a threat to Ostland.
Dragons are not a common threat to Ostland. But if they do show up, even one left unchecked can do a ton of damage. And given that out of our 3 assets that can check a dragon (2 griffons and a unit of pegasi mercs) 2 are stuck behind enemy lines with a solid chance of untimely death having a method of dealing with the dragons that is easier to spread far and wide is just rational. Especially given that there are other flying monsters these new guns should help with.

The guns and cannons matter too, plus Ogres. We still have the Ogre Archers I think. Yup we still got them.

In the 40 Turns the quest has gone on, no dragon has attackd the empire of man. Outside those dragons part of a faction, and not by personal choice. No 'wild' dragon has been sighted in the rumor mill either, except for Morai-Wen turned dragon.

A 'ton of damage' seems like excessive concern to me. Some damage perhaps, but like half the province scorched down in ashes? Or one little village wiped out? Wulfenburg has cannons....

There's also the question of where the 'wild' dragon would live, and why they would target Ostland? The Middle Mountains have a creature called the Ix, so a dragon may not choose to live there. Ostland doesn't seem to be extremely wealthy, so no gold tax there. Ostermark is more likley ro see a 'wild' dragon, or Kislev! Due to proximity to the World's Edge Mountains.

Why are you so focused on dragons? there are dozens of other air forces that ARE common. Ogres archers and maelstrombringers should be responsible for the land forces, not the sky. Maybe it's just me, but I would prefer to have VERY diverse forces to fight, hence the idea of a machine, machines designed to fight air forces and ONLY these.

Other air forces are not that common, nor as difficult to engage with as a dragon. Ogre Archers and Maelstrombringers can be targets for a manitcore or a wyvern.

No Wyverns in Karak Ungor?

How large is your ideal anti air force? 100 strong? 20 000 strong?

The big problem with anti-air with premodern technology is figuring out a way to rotate a weapon big enough to hurt a monster in three dimensions rapidly enough to hit a moving target.

But Ostland has already solved that problem by having an Ogre lift and aim the weapon.

I'm sorry if I'm being pushy, I'm just paranoid and I'd rather have and not need than not have and need. As to the question, a minimum of 1,000 ogre archers deployed to all potential targets of such an attack, 10-30 man units with 100-300 in each army

Again, you are monofocusing on the dragons, whereas the proposed weapon system is supposed to allow us to better contest just about any other large flying creature we may end up encountering without relying on our own extremly short and nigh irreplaceable supply of heavy flyers. As for tons of damage, I was referring specifically to the events of the Battle of Salkalten, where 1 Black dragon, unengaged by our own flyers, did massive damage to both our artillery park and our navy, something our ranged units were unable to meaningfully impair, let alone prevent. The logical conclusion to that fact is, in my mind, that we need a better weapon system to combat such threats because even though they are rare, when they do show up, they have the capacity to do significant damage to us.
But Ostland has already solved that problem by having an Ogre lift and aim the weapon.
Considering that Hunters and Thunderbringers were unable to prevent the Black dragon from fucking up our artillery and navy, just having ogre ranged troops is not enough. That said, giving that new rapid firing(* for a pre percussion cap gun) canon to some of the thunflderbringers is also a valid option.

Part of that was just rolls, you know. It was also, not to put too fine a point on it, their very first time going up against a centuries old dragon with a thousand and a half year old pilot equivalent with their weapons.

Additionally, their harrying of the dragon kept it from doing a shit ton more damage. Much of it's time was spent dodging and sucking and weaving instead of of killing all that it could have.

It wasn't doing all those maneuvers because it was fun. It was because it knew that those ogre 'arrows' actually hurt.

Before they had cannons, dwarfs were killing elgi on dragons with nought but some grit and the bolt throwers of their ancestors. Fine timber, strong cording and rope, and proper aim in a good grouping served perfectly well before all that nasty loud unreliable black powder showed up. Can't even use it in the rain, which the elgi are about to bring to the battlefield with their magic.

If not magical beasts, what about magical machines? how expensive would mass and individual production be, because I know it's possible and maintaining them shouldn't be that expensive, right? Additional gold college membership, they could help, and maybe the emperor if successful? There may be many interesting beings.

Yea, our Ogre Archers rolls werent too hot there.

A real shame, cause our Gough Ogre equivalent could get his chance at fame.

i mean i see the dragon roll as this : all our luck was in Freddy and the brettonians , so there wasn't anything else for the poor ogres.
i mean it's amazing that we managed to kill two ou of three dragons without catastrophic loss.

I mean, to be fair according to the armybook dwarfs specifically invented new types of runes to put on bolt throwers in order to be able to fight the dragons, and if you go by the novels dragons are very much presented as a massive problem for the dwarfs that they were constantly struggling to deal with throughout the war.

In the novel series, the dragons of Caledor are presented as not really having their hearts in the fight against the dwarfs, with only a couple of them joining the war out of personal loyalty to Imladrik because Caledor II never obtained their loyalty or respect. One of the pivotal moments of the war that swings the balance in the favour of the dwarfs and sets the stage for the eventual defeat at the Fourteenth Siege of Tor Alessi is that the elves start to enslave various beasts with magic, which causes discontent with the dragons. Specifically, the elves are sieging Barak Varr and are on the verge of breaching their defences by sending wave after wave of bound sea serpents to suicidally attack the sea gate, while the dragons interdict dwarf reinforcements. However, the dragons watch from the skies as their distant kin are being mercilessly sent out to be slaughtered against their will, and eventually decide they've had enough. They abandon the war and fly back to Caledor, no matter how much the Princes on their backs protest, and without the dragons the dwarfs are able to break the siege of Barak Varr and retake the initiative in the war.

(Not saying this as criticism, I just like being informative)

There are, of course, ways to upscale bolt throwing. The dwarfs literally invented a whole new category of runes for their war machines and other technological doodads.

For instance:

Flakkson's Rune of Seeking - This rune was first invented to shoot down Dragon riders with Bolt Throwers during the War of Vengeance.

Like, they've got ways of doing it. Runes, multiple runes. Plus banner runes too, probably, to help guide further. Now, admittedly, a lot of dragons weren't really super into the War of Vengeance at points, but wild dragons are a threat to dwarf holds too! And you can't always get an accomplished Slayer to do the job.

And other methods exist as well, if the dwarfs cannot do it, the Gold College could look into improving the solid metal bolt heads being used in some way or another. Try and get some Azyr assistance, maybe, to aid in wind blowing and accuracy.

Just saying. One single momentous event of not utterly dominating doesn't mean it's useless.

EDIT: @Blackout has scooped me, and once again, done it better.
