I mean, do they even want a navy?

I'm expecting those ships to be burned as offerings to Mathlann and Manaan myself.
They have a substantial coastline, and a desire for a reasonably active foreign policy. I doubt they want to try to match Ulthuan ship for ship, but a modest navy to police and defend their coast is likely on the table, if only so they don't have to suffer the indignity of asking Stephan for a ride if they need to clear out some squatters on a nearby island off their coast or something.

Can Melekith make more Black Arks? He did make them once but I am not sure if he can do it again?
I will also say that no, this is not TWW. The Druchii do not pay a small token fee to spawn new Black Arks. Almost every BA currently active are former chunks of Nagararythe. You don't know how many they have, but it is not infinite.

Yeah, the druchii can make more Black Arks. Losing five Black Arks inside a decade is a loss for them, one they can overcome, eventually. More of a setback rather than a major loss to the druchii for the next decade.

I will say that they cannot just click a button and spend a medium amount of slaves and gold to just pop one out, no.
Are you telling me the funny video game LIED to me?!!!!

(on a more serious note I was under the impression that the game flavored it as waking one of the black arks up, not building a new one. The slaves and money are just required to get the engine going so to speak. The same way the High Elves can't just turn gold into dragons.)

I... really doubt that. Malekith had seven thousand years. If Druuchi could make Black Arks that easily and quickly, there wouldn't be couple dozen, but couple thousand (ignoring the landmass and garrison requirements).

No doubt they can recover, but it would be a crushing loss of resources of every stripe. And that is assuming that Asur wouldn't take advantage of sudden major weakening in their power projection.

You know something? The Great Stag thing had me looking into them and other mythical cervidae in Warhammer, and that led me to the Sisters of the Thorn, and I only just realized now, years after Lovely Laurelorn, that the Sister who said the dead Sisters slain by Drycha were not permanently dead was not referring to returning them to life with advanced Life magic like Regrowth, but rather their own unique ability to reconstitute.

Just like their mistress, the Sisters of the Thorn are eternal; they seem never to age and succumb to injury only briefly. Should one be slain, her siblings place her body upon a bier of root and ivy, and bear it away to the hallowed halls beneath the Oak of Ages. There she slumbers away the weeks and months until the arrival of a new spring, where the riot of magic and life-energy restores her to vibrant existence. Only if her body is irretrievable or mutilated beyond all recognition does the fallen Sister's spirit flee the mortal world, leaving her bereaved siblings to exact vengeance on her slayer.

Eh, you really overestimate the Druchii population numbers, and underestimate the size of the Black Arks. A few thousand cities of druchii is what you are saying they should have. That is a high number of cities from a mere province of Ulthuan's population in initial colonist number.

In general the druchii probably have more Black Arks than about two dozen. Using the magical number 8 multiplied by 8 for the number 64. I would assume the druchii created 64 Black Arks when they left Ulthuan. I want to say the druchii made 80 Black Arks, but that number has tens in it, and why a ten is not easy for me to explain. Eight times eight because eight is the magic significant number of the setting is much easier.

They probably could pop out a Black Ark a year, or every five years, heh, or every eight years. However, the population numbers, the rival schemes, the investment of resources. Everything required to keep the thing functional needs cooperation, druchii do not do cooperation. Either the creator of a new Black Ark is nearly as powerful as Malekith in influence, or is somebody's puppet.

It requires unmaking the Vortex to create Black Arks.

So the answer is no.

EDIT: If Black Arks were relatively easy to produce than Malekith would just keep throwing Black Arks at Ulthuan until the High Elf navy is literally crushed and he can invade with impunity. As the High Elves' counter to Black Arks, the Dragonships, are irreplaceable due to the trees used to make them having been burned down during the Sundering.

The population thing, the potential force multiplier for competitors, yes.

But this part? Goodness no. To recreate the conditions of the Sundering in any capacity at all is an incredibly dangerousa and difficult thing to do.

So you'd need magic of that level and in sufficient amount gathered and contained (in just the right way) into a localized area (the size of the Black Ark you want to make and probably then some) to power the creation of a new Black Ark. No easy feat even under ideal conditions and cooperation.

Basically each ark is an national superweapon, making one is a huge project even if the druichi go against the most base instincts and cooperate, is also something that would take decades to do otherwise they would had recoup the one lost to the everqueen, and then of course theres the fact they only have enough elves to field so many black arks.

Instead of a "simple thing" as I sorta implied it could be. The druchii raising a single Black Ark would be in a multi turn CoS thing they need to pass all the rolls on without failing it for X turns?

Put it to ya'll this way.

The amount of resources and effort it takes to try and forge a new one - and that would be wasted if it failed - are quite significant. This cannot be understated. But ASIDE from that?

Morathi doesn't want to do it. Not because it is, in fact, impossible, no. But she really, really doesn't want to try and raise new ones, for reasons. Consider this, yeah?

Additionally, no newly raised Ark will ever be so powerful as those literally forged out of the chunks of Ulthuan during the proper Sundering.

Well yes, but you can see now that by explaining this to me you are essentially undermining the very own argument i have disagreed with in the first place?

Loss of five massive cities full of druuchi being something you can get even on in a decade sounds utterly impossible.

Century maybe, and that would be disregarding a lot of what Torroar said on the matter.

To put this in perspective? Morathi is perhaps the greatest magic user among all Elf races alive today, rivaled only by the next Caledor Dragontamer in Teclis (and he's still maturing) and literal demigods in Ariel and MAYBE the Everqueen. She has also committed heinous acts worthy of immortalization as high priestess of many of the Cytharai, the Elf gods who exist to be evil gods in Asur myth. She is ultimately the source of an enormous amount of suffering across the entire Warhammer world. She would not hesitate to sacrifice ten thousand Druuchi, a hundred thousand, her most loyal sorceresses and retainers, Ghrond itself, in the most heinous, torturous rituals if it would give her what she wanted.

And she really doesn't want to make more Black Arks.

We could call this duet the Song of Ice and Fire.
Then we would have to face our scariest foe yet: J.R.R. Martin's copyright lawyers.
Or, you know, I could also technically absolutely sprint as fast as I possibly can while huffing meth and cocaine and injecting my heart directly with adrenaline needles.
Torroar... PLEASE tell me this is not what you meant by "cardio"

So to make a 40k analogy Black Arks are like Battle barges? In that Imperium/druchii can make new ones but it takes all but irreplaseable resources combined with a lot of effort from best available experts and so actually doing it is all but unheard of?

Not exactly, more like making a Gloriana and consecrating it by taking a piece of the Golden Throne and slotting it in.

Morathi: Do you know the favors I had to do and for whom to make that happen? I'll never get the taste out of my mouth. 🤮

Pfft....

Being fair, morality, or any mockery of, is probably not a factor on that decision.
Is more political, every arc is a seat of power and a potential rival to her.
I would have guessed that attempting to create a new Ark would give certain beings the ability to collect certain ... debts that she owes them.

Absolutely not. C'mon man. You're joking me, yeah? In case you're not: NO. I use a dang ARC Trainer, jeez.

Ghrond itself, in the most heinous, torturous rituals if it would give her what she wanted.

Well let's be clear here, all that would be a LITTLE extreme. 'What she wanted' in that case would have to be, like, a sure shot 100% guaranteed victory over Ulthuan, and probably also getting Aenarion to admit he loved her the most somehow.

In this case, it's effectively:

Informant: My lady, the Barbed Soul Coven has accepted the commission of the Witch King! They have joined with the Supreme Sorceress Haeletha and El'tha and their own Covens as well!

Morathi: Wonderful. Slave, mark down in my calendar a note to increase the wards on Ghrond again. And you, my informant, shall watch for those who shall rise to take their places after they're gone.

Informant: ...my lady?

Morathi: Of course most will wait until the crater is filled back in with snow, but there's no reason not to be proactive about it.

Maybe a mini-Black Ark could be made. Not as big, or as scary (though still a big fucj off ass boat island). Just not as good as the originals.

Also I really, realllllly doubt we'll be destroying/capturing the black Arks currently sat on Salkaten. Unless we roll like GODS and they completely fumble it. Hell, we're still trying just to beat them.

This post lacks Faith, Steel, and Gunpowder.
