I've been rereading about the slaying of Ghorros at the Bone Gate, and noticed something interesting.

The recognition of his title of Steel Bull, the 'Horned Uncloven,' I took those things as colorful descriptions used by the beastmen to describe Frederick, during the recent curtain-pulling on their gathering Herd of Herds. I thought their attention, and their ire, had been primarily drawn at the slaying of Ghorros, more so than Slugtongue, but I thought either way it was this audacity that had attracted the attention of their race.

But these quotes from Ghorros... are suspect. Ghorros declared he would earn the title 'Breaker of Destiny' if he slayed Frederick - why? He says he should have turned back at the sound of his name, 'Steel Bull.' He says that another will be the one to kill Frederick.

I don't think it's a stretch to interpret that there is some great prophecy about Frederick, and by extension Ostland, among the beastmen. I don't know whether 'another' would refer to Malagor, Rrrngar, Felfang, or Morghur, but I think we can expect coming into contact with this prophecy, and perhaps it's fulfilment in the form of Frederick's demise, in the coming conflict.

Marienburg continues to be a pleasant distraction but I've been shitting my pants about the beastmen since the Dark Omen's on-screen debut in the Foes Near and Far interlude. I wonder how much longer we have.
Ah, don't worry about it. Frederick already died. He just came back.

It's uncertain and unknown what exactly Ghorros was talking about. And the Skulltaker for sure seemed to think Freddy was a big stain of nothing; a stain on the weaves of fate, a reckless child who thought it was more than nothing, a mere accident of chance.
"Your whole life…pointless! Worthless! Nothing of value! With magic, with others, nothing you have done is unique, nothing you have ever done is something that a speck of dust could do with the right aid!"

"No true prophecy surrounds you, only pure chance, the whims of the roll of a die! You are nothing! Not even Gazul can save you from me!"
((That was a very interesting and satisfying rant to read, by the way. The slight leaning on the... not fourth wall exactly, but... on some thread and poster thoughts and musings. That is, it was like a commentary or rant or reference to some of the thoughts players had, themselves, expressed and speculated on; "Is anything we do, or have done, governed by fate? Or chance? Or, is there some grand fate or destiny woven ahead of us, of which we are merely the players in? Who knows."))

Perhaps Ghorros meant that he wanted to be the Breaker of Destiny who would cause Laurelorn's fall, and Frederick was just in the way of that? We don't know. We don't know for sure if he wasn't just rambling drunkenly -- as torroar himself mused on when we first asked about it after that update with Ghorros, giving a sort of 'Who knows, eh?' response.

tl;dr This is some cool stuff. Both Ghorros and Skulltaker, and the things they said, were cool as heck! :D

Generally, Ice Witches, the previous incarnation of what are now broadly (legally) considered Priestesses of the Widow (depending on what part of Kislev you're in) generally took pride in their mystical and fey nature. Many of them are noted, I believe somewhere in the Realm of the Ice Queen sourcebook, to eventually reach a point where they can appear carved from blue and white marble. Could be wrong on that source, but it definitely feels like something I've read before. They stand apart by standing above, a lot of the time, though the exact nature of it does change depending on if they are Gospodar or Ungol, and what level of those two societies that they live in. Like, yes, some of them take lovers, but plenty of others are purposefully these sort of untouchable (perhaps even literally due to aforementioned cold etc.) who do not merely advise, but command. With the introduction/transformation/revivification of the Kislevite Pantheon and transformation of the Ice Witches into the aforementioned Priestesshood these things are mixing/changing a bit here and there, but not all things. To many of the Priestesses, and certain zealous Kislevites, Natasha's transformation would be a mark of great power and favor from the Widow. Alas, both Arcane and Divine Marks can sound neat in terms of pure 'numbers go up hurr' but can carry many narrative penalties in exchange.

If I may say a rare positive thing about Sigmar (I don't generally like him), at least his marks don't come with that sort of issue, they just make you more like the very solid and down to earth Man God.

Speaking of Kislev looks like they will be in the next total Warhammer game. And given new units tend to arrive with these games that might mean new toys for you to play with in your quest@torroar! We won't know for certain though till at least tomorrow when the next trailer drops.

I gotta love the 'numbers go up herr' quote... That made me laugh. Also I have to say I really do think Natasha really got screwed by the mark left on her. I mean she has had to learn to live with not only the physical changes to her appearance but also the need to avoid touching everyone. It is hard to compare how bad that is compared to losing your ability to feel emotions but Frederick's family has not had an easy time of it when it comes to magic in the family.

I have a question which I am not sure if it has been answered in the threadmarks... But has Frederick kept up a correspondence with his first Elven friend Aurellia... I think is her name... Ha sorry i cant remeber how it spelled without going back to the last time she was mentioned.

He is the god that preaches blind obedience to Imperial authority (which is possessed to be ascendant over all mankind). Also he thinks the only good mage is a dead one.
Really?

We've had this discussion dozens of times in thread, and that's just not true.

Thr blind obedience to imperial authority id patently false and makes me think you're thinking of the 40k imperium, and if he thought the only good mage was a dead one, he wouldn't have let Magnus (his champion and the person who he saved from being burnt alive) found the Colleges of Magic.

One thing that worries me about the bedrock soul bond is the scrap of Fredrick's soul that is currently owned by Khorne and appears to be gaining favor. A daemon made out of that scrap might be able to link to the soul bond.

I have no intention of relitigating this out of the blue especially when it is not linked to anything in the last update. Let's just agree to disagree.

I'd argue that this isn't exactly an opinion on which we should agree to disagree, since its pretty core to the quest itself, and also that you're the one who brought it up in the first place so you can't really say your points like they're fact and then say you don't want to start this discussion when someone responds to your post. If you don't want to reiterate it then you shouldn't have brought it up

But yeah, sure. If you don't want to defend your position, we can drop it

  1. I brought it up because someone asked it relating to a passing comment
  2. I indeed to not want to defend my position since this is neither the time not the place to litigate Sigmar

If it is easy to negate a major issue like Natasha's body, I would expect the QM to not compare the problem with Anna's condition.
It depends on what you mean by "negate."

Anna's spiritual permafrost isn't negated by others revising their expectations for Anna's behavior... but such an action by others mitigates the adverse effects of the permafrost on Anna and those around her.

Natasha's anomalous body temperature isn't negated by Freddy gaining the ability to survive that body temperature without injury... but such an action for Freddy mitigates the adverse effects of the artificial cold on Freddy, and indirectly on Natasha.

So neat, I was right about it being partially cultural inertia that keeps the widow priestesses from searching for a solution.

Anna's changes are a mutation in her soul, it can't be fixed. BUT we also know that she genuinely fell in love with someone in Tilean, and she eventually had Natasha because of him. If he was able to break past the magically enforced walls then we can infer that these changes are not absolute. Personal growth, connections and/or distance can all play a role in changing the marks. And if it doesn't I think commissioning the bright college (or just Odelia) for something that can warm Freddy faster than the heat can be drained.

Archmage Aurellion is attuned to the Eternity Stair/Arcane Fulcrum, and we do NOT bother Tor with questions about the fulcrum. When there is anything to say about it (like in the recent Daughters of Malus interlude) Tor will tell us. In the meantime it has no bearing to the quest at large.

Something else that I would like to know @torroar is whether we will be able to renegotiate our contract to supply Averland with cannons and other stuff during the next Electors Meet or not... I mean, the extra gold is nice and all, but at this point getting more research projects done per turn seems more valuable than the extra 750 gold we get in exchange for that research action

What you mean? The gold is what's funding all our of research, we get to arm the crap out of Averland, build great relationship with another southern province AND arm the crap out of Averland for the blackfire pass in order to block the Black Orcs soon to be Wagh invasion.

Simply that now we have much more sources of income than we had when we made the deal, and that the deal has been going for almost 10 years, so Averland sould be pretty full of our arms already...

I am not saying anything about stopping selling our guns, I want to keep selling them guns but it may be interesting to renegotiate the amount of guns and weapons that we sell them each year so that we can recover our third engineering research action...

Sorry but at this point to have an extra research slot is much more useful than an extra income 750 gold, and after 10 years Averland is probably pretty well armed.

That's still a 750+ per turn, and it's a very worthwhile because we're helping the Imperial in arming the most important, strategic and religiousy significant point in the entire Imperial. NVM that it's thanks to that, we're getting more allies in the future from Averland because we've been constantly supplying them that. Building connections down south so as it were.

Extra research action may be useful but it worth dedicating that action in Averland because of both short and long term profits, not only for Ostland but also Imperial as a whole in making Averland realizing the power of out drunken tech, and thereby, purchase even more of our weapons. Specially now that we got a vapor engine in the process that we can strap to either tanks, bikes, ships, or even just using it to improve industry.

Stirland already saw plenty of our stuff in action, getting Averland as our permanent buyer is also a boost to our industry and enabling us to compete with Nuln in the long run as well.
