I've seen this said but do you understand what it means? There are three likely slots to open up. One is Personnel, where we will likely retire the last Old Guard eventually. One is Intelligence, which Chen is not really suited for. And the last is the VA who becomes Admiral, and admit it, it'll almost certainly be Sulu's Tactical. Chen isn't really suited to that either.

Basically, Chen isn't going to get the next VA position. It's this one now, or wait until we pick in Snakepit, or move an existing VA into Tactical laterally.

Exactly, when Sulu become Admiral we move Sousa to Tactical, and promote Chen to Shipyard Operations.

Sum total for Q4 Captains Log:
Research Colony Site at Aga Carmide 7 rp/year
+30 RP
+25 PP
+25 Qloathi
+10 Gaeni
+10 Licori
Enterprise now Elite
+3 Impact

Casualties:
1 T
USS Miracht

2 of 3 Orion Logs:
+15 Impact
+10 Cost
+25 Orions
New Rigel corruption reduction
Shodar captured (committed suicide)
USS Kersage damaged for 12 months

This has been a costly quarter but I think corruption has something to do with Orion resilience. So 18 impact to 10 cost for the quarter, though we have one more Orion log to go

Huh. We should make it a Vice Admiral position then.
I would prefer retiring Seruk first as the last old guard in addition bumping Medical to Vice Admiral. After that Explorer Corp and Intel.

From the last snakepit:
Arrange to have an Old Guard Admiral convinced it is time to retire, 20pp
Reorganise a Starfleet Command from a Rear Admiral position to a Vice Admiral position. Pick one: 20pp for Starfleet Intelligence, 30pp for Medical, 30pp for Explorer Corps
Reorganise a Starfleet Command from a Vice Admiral position to an Admiral position. Pick one: 40pp for Starfleet Operations, 50pp for Shipyard Ops, 55pp for Ship Design Bureau, 45pp for Starfleet Tactical

So what happens when we bump a VA position to an Admiral? Is the head of Starfleet now the same rank as her subordinate, or do we get promoted to Mega-Admiral or something.

In the US Rear Admiral is a 2 Star, Vice a 3 Star, Admiral 4 Star and Fleet Admiral a 5 star. Likely head of Starfleet becomes a Fleet Admiral or some similar name, UK and some other countries go Admiral of the Fleet for 5 star.

The table of organisation at the start of this thread seems to be missing some important posts.

Starfleet Medical for instance, whihc I know is currently occupied by Read Admiral McCoy, but isn;t lsited as such. Also missing are the Starfleet Corps of Engineers, Starfleet Security, Starfleet JAG, and Starfleet Logistics.

I think I saw something about Medical and the SCE being outside of our control, but it seems they are all at least rear admiral slots that if we were able to appoint people to, would go some way to solving our lack of promotion opportunities.

PP totals: 5(remainder after snakepit)+20 Q2+25 Rigel Membership+15 Q3+25 Q4=90
RP total:11(remainder after science)+10 Rigel Membership+0 Q3+30 Q4=51

For Comparison:
Snakepit spent:131+50 reserved to development party
Science spent:218

Income not included (PP due to cost reducing it), but Rigel membership added 10 RP and 5 PP income, losing Mitaracht decreased our PP income by 2 (current explorer corp gives 2pp/ 5 year mission and we are down to 4 now). Also no longer losing 5pp a year from Nash.

RP income listed as 129, Rigel is now providing 10 RP, likely provided 5 RP before membership so increase that by 5.
134+51 gives us 185, leaving us 33 short of what we spent last time with 2 turns to get that from explorer logs. We do have a science colony coming online next year which will boost income up to 141 at which point we would need 77 RP throughout the year from events to maintain current levels

[X][VICE] Rear Admiral Patricia Chen

Chen is our protege and frankly I'd like to cool down the diplomatic rolls right now, not heat them up. I don't want +4 to rolls.

[X][AMARKIA] Commodore Victoria Eaton

Ships are more likely to respond together when they get about the same roll. +1 to each is a great bonus.

[X][RIGEL] Captain Maryam Ajam

Eh, the bonus isn't the greatest but I would like her career to progress. I don't want her to feel like she has to be hidden back in Intelligence forever.

@OneirosTheWriter I noticed you updated our resource totals on the front page but seem to have forgotten to include the PP and RP gained from Rigel's admission
Political Will: 65pp should by 90 (+25 from Rigel ratification)
Research Points: 41rp should be 51(+10 from Rigel ratification)

With the exception of the Apiata and Indorians, we're a long way away from the next full member. An extra +2 over our current bonus won't change that. Assuming we don't push any of them, we're looking at 5-6 years for the Caldonians and Orions to reach 500. By then we'll have our full line of ConnieBees done and will be well on our way to finishing the first wave of Renaissances. Plus, the Caldonians will probably only be an extra D3, and the Orions almost certainly will wait until after the Syndicate is finished, which will take even longer. And after them come the Risans and Gaeni, who are also probably a D3 each. Once the Apiata are in, we don't need to worry about new sectors until the Qloathi and Seyek join, which won't be for a decade or more.

Basically, we've already hit the worst mass influx of new members. As long as we don't go pushing current affiliates they will be joining up one every couple of years for the next decade at a rate we can safely absorb.

Then we don't need +4 to diplomatic pushes, do we?

Anyway, I want Chen separate from that.
