Our confirmed income is still more then 50% less then our maximum consumption. which is.. not a good thing.
really, we need both more RP income and more pp income at this point. so T'Faer and Viraan are a coin flip for me.
Our RP income after this year is 105 points per year, our max consumption is 144, also we have the Gaeni and Risa and Orions nearing the 300 level where they start contributing and as Gaeni are science I expect 5 RP from them.

It's annoying, but we can merge the votes into the FYM ones via "manage votes" in NetTally to workaround this.
Yes, but it also means we have to catch it, and if there are votes with a lot of different officer options they could easily be missed. I would rather make sure things are formatted to make the tally run easier than take a chance to miss someones vote.

I wish to point out to everyone that +1 on Hard Rolls is not Automatic Success on Hard Rolls. It's only a higher odds of succeeding on Hard Rolls.

It also does not apply to numerous rolls that could also crop up, like Easy and Medium rolls.

HEAD OF THE EXPLORER CORPS

[X] Commodore Viraan zh'Dohlen

We really, really need all the political points we can get easily.

I'd consider T'Faer, she did a good job for us during the biophage crisis. But we have a glut of research points at the moment. More than we can possibly use. If anything, we need zh'Dohlen at the head of the Explorer Corps precisely because the extra political will is going to help us recruit the research teams we need in order to take advantage of the wealth of scientific data the Explorer Corps brings in.

A CAPTAIN FOR THE S'HARIEN

[X][FYM] Captain Saavik

For one, I want her on the team- one of the characters we regularly circulate between posts.

For another, she gives us a bonus on the events most likely to blow up one of our valuable explorers full of valuable Explorer Corps crew. That is doubly important since at first, her crew will be relatively inexperienced and lower-stat than that of some of the other Explorer Corps ships.

If they run into a crisis, Kirk's lessons about no-win situations juuust might save her command. And they might prevent some utter disaster from blowing up and ruining everything! :)

Sure, it's not as good as Nash's ability, but then we aren't forced to budget 5pp a year just to cover for all the random crap that happens to her. It MAY not be as good as Mbeki's ability, but it's still pretty damn good, because it kicks in precisely when we really need it. The Explorer Corps ships usually pass their Easy/Medium event checks, but we've had some real doozies blow up involving Hard events.

Plus, giving a Vulcan-Romulan woman a ship named S'harien is just too good for words. And I suspect AKuz will get some mileage out of that, which I'm looking forward to on general principles.

...

WITH THAT BEING SAID... We have at least three five-year missions coming to a close in the near future, maybe four. I favor all the following for the Explorer Corps in the near future:

1) Nash (duh)
2) Rosalee McAdams (because she's been waiting a long time, and deserves it, and I want to see our characters' hopes realized. Also, failing combat checks doesn't seem to happen often, but when it does it could easily be really bad. We should give her Courageous.)
3) Langa Mbeki (because diplomacy is very important)

That probably leaves us with one slot unfilled, but that isn't really a problem IMO. I'd like to see T'Rinta get an Explorer Corps command, but she's a Vulcan, she can afford to wait a while. I'll back her in the next round, or in this round if I don't find anyone with a really important bonus we should grab.

I'd favor th'Zahliss, but we have a glut of research points at the moment, as mentioned earlier.

Captain Saavik
If she doesn't get this exploration vessel, she's darn well being assigned to command the next one!

Captain Rosalee McAdams
The Enterprise has shown us how valuable rerolls can be - even if they are a bit rough on the psyche.

Captain Langa Mbeki
The Enterprise has also shown us how valuable bonuses to presence can be, so he would also be a good choice.

Captain T'Rinta
She's certainly motivated, and familiarity with weapon systems should never be dismissed - I'd love to see what she could manage with a Five-Year Mission under her belt.

However, I think I'm going to go with:

[X][FYM] Captain Langa Mbeki

We need people out there who know how to put their best foot forward, no matter the circumstances.

[ ] Commodore T'Lam

[ ] Commodore Viraan zh'Dohlen

[ ] Commodore T'Faer

So many good options this turn, what am I going to do with them all?! I think I'll go with:

[X] Commodore Viraan zh'Dohlen

He gives us, by himself, enough political pull to arrange a diplomatic push every year. You wouldn't want to upset someone who knows where all the bodies are buried, would you?

So, when does Uhura get promoted into the Admiralty? I want to see her as Sulu's successor in the next decade or two, if she's up for the job.

I'll note that I won't be heartbroken if McAdams (OBVIOUSLY) or Mbeki win the election. They're both people I'm voting for when the next round of Five Year Missions wraps up, anyway.

A bit unrelated, but I'll probably forget if I sit on it, so

Next time we're naming EC Excelsiors, can we name one Tiberius?

So for people wondering @OneirosTheWriter gave us a peak at how events worked on this post. One of the keys is DC for Explorer vs non-explorer being different, with Explorer events having a higher DC. A medium explorer event has a DC of 12, though that is 2d6+Score to beat or equal. And most stats on our explorers tend to be 6 or more depending on experience then that is not too hard. However we know hard is higher than that.

For non explorer, they had an easy at DC 6 and hard at DC 11, medium would probably be DC 8 or 9. That likely puts the hard Explorer DC at 15-17.

We'll see if she turns down the promotion to Commodore again. Ten years is a long time, no matter how much you love something, and eventually someone else has to Captain the Enterprise. Just saying, she may not even be an option.

Suffice to say that she has my support as captain of the Enterprise, completely regardless of whether she elects to continue occupying that position. She remains welcome in the role.

Yeah. Basically, the hard events are the ones our explorers sometimes actually fail, the ones that are most likely to endanger the ship and screw everything up.

And specifically in that category of event, Saavik's bonus is as good as Nash's. She doesn't do routine things especially well. She does weird emergencies well. That is exactly the kind of captain we want.

Kirk: Captain of the Enterprise, huh?
Picard: That's right.
Kirk: Close to retirement?
Picard: I'm not planning on it.
Kirk: Well let me tell you something. Don't! Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do *anything* that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there... you can make a difference.

[X][FYM] Captain Saavik

I kinda really want to see what the romulan intelligence briefings look like when they found out we appointed a half romulan to captain a ship named after someone who rejected Surak's reforms.
