If it is all combat, I feel McAdams's reroll is better than than T'Rinta's +1, but also McAdams has been up for an EC ship for a long time now. Maybe it's her turn? Saavik isn't going away at only age 45.

[x][FYM]Captain Langa Mbeki
[x] Commodore T'Faer

Mbeki would be an excellent to help shore up relations in the CBZ, with Syzi ch'Zelil being a close second. defiantly prioritize his explorations for around that area, and near the already known races.

T'Faer pretty much garrentees us an additional research team a year, possibly two if we get lucky.

I thiknk Viraan's +10 PP/Year is.. lacklustre. Would rather havr more RP. Also, Langa Mbeki gives +1P and rerolls, which look good on exploring places, given that there are already lots of discovered species, so yes.

Like 95% certain that McAdams's ability is only for combat tests outside the battle system, because we've literally never seen a battle system reroll effect and her ability specified personal combat last time.

I really want Saavik for this ship in particular:3

Are there any Tellarites in the running for eventual captainship? Also how soon before there are Amarki or Catians in the pool?

Last research phase we activated every tech team for 144 RP, our income with the research colony that finishes next quarter is 105 RP. We would only need 39 RP from explorer logs over 4 quarters to break even, the past year we gained 90 RP, and are sitting at 188 RP currently. RP is not our limiting factor at this time. On the other hand +10 PP is another berth, or tech team or diplo push or colony. And we have never had enough to get everything we want. As it is now, we can always spend more PP and +10 is a lot as our income there is only 61 a turn. RP on the other hand we can only spend to the tech teams we have available (and we need PP for more tech teams). There is a reason we are trying to rush to the first colony core tech and that is for the +1 PP per colony. We are currently ignoring the +RP techs as they are not useful until we have a lot more tech teams.

If selected, I will try to write at least another understated Saavik/Spock thingie...

Mbeki's ability is the only one that I'd call a "high tier" ability. Not a Nash-Tier ability, but definitely above average. Boosting a stat AND giving rerolls to most rolls of that type is extremely powerful. Now, if T'Rinta's ability does work within the battle engine then I'm switching my vote, and I think everyone else should too. Rerolling failed in-battle rolls is a Nash-tier ability.

Edit: Changed my mind. Saavik's ability is at least as good a Mbeki's and the wutfaces on Romulus tipped me over. Also, her ability is literally budget Nash.

I'm like 99% sure that rerolling failed combat roll in battle is... not a thing.

(Other than that temporal nash incident.)

Not yet, we will need to remover Seruk from Personnel, who is the last of the old guard to gain control over promotions at which point we can likely start moving Tellarites and other captains into the explorer corp.

Also on Saavik, she gives +1 to all rolls against Hard DC regardless of stat test, and I believe Hard is the highest difficulty level. That is a very solid boost and when added on top of the Exelcsior's stats makes succeeding that much more likely. As opposed to a reroll when we had times where the captains would not even have missions in there specialty for sometime. Saavik is basically active when we need it the most.

[X][FYM] Captain Saavik

Through I really like Saavik for the next Explorer, her Romulan/Vulcan heritage could make her very useful at normalizing relations with the Romulans. It's also great omake fodder.

I changed my mind, not assigning Saavik to a ship named S'harien would be a crime.

[X] Commodore Viraan zh'Dohlen

For the juicy PP.

I have to admit, Saavik's ability is pretty good. Hard DC events are the type that end in ship destruction when they are failed, and when you really need that +1, she has it.

Task: FYM

[5][FYM] Captain Saavik
[1][FYM] Captain Langa Mbeki
[1][FYM] Captain T'Rinta
[1][FYM] Captain Rosalee McAdams
[1][FYM] Saavik

Total No. of Voters: 14

Some keys:
@TerrisH, @Crazy Tom, @Derek58 ,@pheonix89 please add [FYM] before your vote for captain.
@Shard please change 5YM to FYM
@Muer'ci please add Captain before Saavik.

By formatting properly it makes it less likely your vote is missed, as without FYM we might think it is part of the next head of the explorers vote and be miscounted.

Langa's abilities are extremely pertinent to our current situation, though. Like the Dewair-Caitain situation.

but also McAdams has been up for an EC ship for a long time now. Maybe it's her turn?

Well, McAdams is already captaining an Excelsior, so she can't feel that bad if she misses this opportunity.

I really want Saavik for this ship in particular:3

And it would be nice to assign a Vulcan (and Romulan) to a ship named after a Vulcan. She's an interesting character and has a good bonus too.

On the other hand, Langa Mbeki's bonus would be useful foiling Cardassian diplomacy efforts, which is all the rage recently.

I'm undecided at the moment.

It's annoying, but we can merge the votes into the FYM ones via "manage votes" in NetTally to workaround this.

Our confirmed income is still more then 50% less then our maximum consumption. which is.. not a good thing.
really, we need both more RP income and more pp income at this point. so T'Faer and Viraan are a coin flip for me.

Within the ship battle engine there are no re-rolls, however, there are combat rolls made outside of that engine in certain circumstances (the Polaris kicked the bucket on one of them, and Miracht nearly did so on another).
Does T'Rinta's ability work on out of battle combat checks?

Note that +P is a +1 on every diplomacy roll, and reroll also applies to [Hard] rolls that happen to be diplomacy ones.

Reroll after failure is worth a bit more than +1.

Which is really helpful.
