Omake - Communal Starship Living, Part 1 - Usili 2.0
So originally this was going to be a single piece, but as I was writing it... it just started to make more sense as a 'two-part' piece a bit, so hope everyone enjoys the first bit as I work on the second one.

Communal Starship Living, Part 1

USS Caerliss (NCC-4108)
January 27th, 2324

Captain Oraso groaned, staring at what seemed like her sworn enemy for the moment, a clock. 4:27. Halfway through the gamma shift, and she just couldn't go back to sleep. She had slept for something like three hours before waking up. Staring at the ceiling, all she could see was the metallic plating of it. Grimacing, she sat up to rub her eyes. "Lights, twenty percent."

The room suddenly lit up from the near darkness it had been, a low level lighting illuminating the room. The quarters she had as Captain were slightly bigger than that of the quarters she had had as the XO on the Bull, and a space
in which she gave an appearance similar to what she had had on there. Taking a look around her quarters, plants stood among each of the corners of her sleeping area, including her favorite on the corner by the window, a 'Sorrow Tower'. It stood slightly less than two and a half meters tall, each of the large leaves on top sprouting, only for smaller leaves to grow from the underside of the large leaves wrapping around like a cocoon for the underside of the large leaves. That had been a gift from Balva, her second cousin, after her promotion as the First Officer on the Bull. 'Next time we get shore leave, I really need to head back to Okatha to visit family,' Eda reminded herself mentally, having been caught up throughout the entire year in overseeing the preparations for the Caerliss.

Walking out of the sleeping area, she took a look around at the 'lounge' area of her quarters. The table next to the couch was full of PADDs, and were only half-done if she recalled by the time she went to bed. Yawning for a moment, she walked over to the replicator. "Glass of Tarbnac please," she spoke to the replicator.

Grasping it, she grasped it to slowly take a sip of it. 'Delicious,' she thought, thinking about what a human friend of hers had said it seemed like. That friend of hers had said that Tarbnac had seemed like the consistency of milk, but tasted like honey with bits of mint and vanilla in it. She put the drink down on the table aside the PADDs, seeing a glimpse of the stars streaming by as lines, indicating they were still at warp. Groaning, she sat on the couch rubbing her eyes again at the stack of paperwork—in the form of PADDs—that she had to get done. Taking a look again around the room, and grimacing slightly at the fact of just how... metallic it all was, she caught the eye of the single painting that she had in the room. It was a painting she had seen in a visit to New York City a while ago at it's art museum. The painting was if she recalled right, by that of Albert Bierstadt, but what had drawn her attention to it was the beauty of nature. With a lake situated on the foreground, and trees slowly further up, the domination of the mountains in the background had cemented it as something beautiful. Feeling a bit calmer at seeing the painting, Captain Oraso slowly began the process of going through the stack of PADDs.

USS Caerliss (NCC-4108)
Captain's Ready Room
February 5th, 2324

Humming to herself, Captain Oraso listened to the ending trails of Art Blakey before getting back to work. Captain—no, Commodore now, she mentally corrected—O'Laughlin had shared his rather interesting musical tastes with her, and while it had been an annoyance at times, if there had been one thing that she had developed a taste for it, it had been jazz. The way jazz 'talked' in the kinds of musical express was just so pleasing.

Opening up her PADD again, she saw the still draft request she had been working on for more than a week to the Commodore in command of Fleet Operations over the sector. Looking over the request again, she flushed at the frivolous nature of it. Requesting to paint murals on the side of hallways in the Caerliss? Eda shook her head at it, closing the draft and going back through the paperwork that she had to go through. The first piece of paperwork was from... Commander Greenburg? 'Interesting,' she mused as she opened up to read it.

"Request For Use of Botany Resources," was how it began, with the request from her First Officer detailing in how it had been said that the total expected usage of the botany areas would take up no more than eight-five percent of the botany area. As a result, the Commander had requested the usage of up to five percent of the botany area for the purposes of a 'garden' for the crew. He had expounded that while this was not an Explorer Corps vessel and a ship not dedicated towards a Five Year Mission, considering the fact of having four-hundred and forty-eight crew aboard, the creation of such a 'garden' would help to keep the morale of the crew up. Putting the PADD down and rubbing her eyes, Captain Oraso would need to talk to Commanders Greenburg and Saer over this proposal.

Stepping onto the bridge from the ready room, Captain Oraso saw Lieutenant Commander Mrr'rasa sitting in command. "Captain!" she spoke sharply, standing up from her seat.

"At ease, Lieutenant Commander," Oraso spoke, "Where's Commander Greenburg?"

"He said he was heading to Engineering an hour ago for an inspection. He should've been back by now, sir," Lieutenant Commander Mrr'rasa replied.

"Computer, where is the location of Commander Greenburg?" Captain Oraso asked.

"Commander Greenburg is located in sickbay," the voice of the computer intoned, with Captain Oraso shivering for a second still at just how... odd it was.

"Lieutenant Commander, you still have the bridge, I'll be in sickbay," Captain Oraso spoke, proceeding to the turbolift at the rear of the bridge.

Captain Oraso nodded to one of the crew walking by as she turned to enter the sickbay, only to see the CMO on the other side of the door. "Captain," Lieutenant Commander Sh'zalrin spoke, putting down the tricorder she was fiddling with, "I presume you're here to check on Commander Greenburg?"

"Yes, after Lieutenant Commander Mrr'rasa reported that he had yet to show back up from his inspection of Engineering," Captain Oraso spoke.

"Right then," Lieutenant Commander Sh'zalrin responded, "The Commander tripped down a ladder he was heading down and wound up unconscious. He's going to be kept overnight for observation. If he's up, you can talk for whatever you need for a total of twenty minutes. Now wait here while I check on the Commander."

Nodding to her, the Andorian doctor wandered to the back of the sickbay, proceeding to the only bed that was occupied and covered from view. Captain Oraso mused silently in that considering how protective the Lieutenant Commander was, that all CMOs were just like that in terms of their protectiveness over sickbay. "Look, Jhyzia, I'm perfectly fine. Can't you let me out now?" she heard the voice of the Commander barely, in a seeming frustrated tone of voice?

"You know the procedures David," Captain Oraso heard the Lieutenant Commander speak in a rather... annoyed tone before she continued, "I'll go tell the Captain you're ready to talk."

Lieutenant Commander Sh'zalrin walked out from the covered bed, Captain Oraso seeming to note an agitated presence. "Commander Greenburg is awake, and you have twenty minutes. Exactly twenty minutes," she spoke, walking to her office.

Nodding as the CMO walked past, the Captain proceeded to the bed that the Commander was present in. Captain Oraso raised an eyebrow at Commander Greenburg who was laying inclined in the bed, a PADD set adjacent to him. "Captain," the Commander spoke.

"Commander," Captain Oraso replied, "So I heard you tripped down a ladder."

Commander Greenburg flushed before responding. "That'd be correct. I tripped down a ladder when I was heading down from a platform in a discussion with the Warp Division Director over the Matter/Anti-Matter injectors when I basically slipped. Was there any other reason you came down besides to check on my absence from the bridge?"

"Well, yes. I was interested in that report you had sent for a request of use of botany resources in order to make a garden."

"Ah yes, that," Commander Greenburg spoke, pausing for a minute to continue, "I presume you read the report through full and my motivations for it?"

"In terms of enabling to keep morale up? Yes, I read through that bit."

"Right. So at a basic level considering the Caerliss has a lot more crew on than the previous frigates Starfleet has and is near equivalent to the Renaissance-class cruisers. Now considering the fact of that, along with the limited space available for recreational facilities onboard, I felt that a garden could be the most prudent usage of space available for that of additional places for the crew to relax and keep up their morale."

Captain Oraso nodded at that, "Do you have anyone else who'd work with you on this?"

"Just one of the Lieutenants in the Science Division," Commander Greenburg replied.

"Alright," Captain Oraso nodded, putting her hand against one of the nodules on her head before continuing, "Get say five more people who are going to agree to work on this in their space time and get Commander Saer along with Lieutenant Commander Sh'zalrin to sign off on the proposed plants for the garden. Then send me a follow-on report with the five other people and both the Commander and Lieutenant Commander having signed off on it."

"Understood," Commander Greenburg replied, "I presume that's all?"

"That'd be all Commander. I'll expect you on the bridge tomorrow," Captain Oraso replied, deciding not to inquire into how her First Officer and CMO referred to each other by their first names then. It could be something that she could inquire on later.

"Yes sir," Commander Greenburg replied as the Captain stepped out from where she was, and closing the covering over the area around Greenburg's bed. Nodding to Lieutenant Commander Sh'zalrin as she passed by her office, she walked out of sickbay, bound back towards the bridge.

Very good, displays admirable caution and Ked.

Hmm. "Greenberg" doesn't sound like a very common Ked Paddah name.

Commander Greenburg flushed before responding. "That'd be correct. I tripped down a ladder when I was heading down from a platform in a discussion with the Warp Division Director over the Matter/Anti-Matter injectors when I basically slipped.
Though failing to take due care and slipping on a ladder while distracted holding a conversation shows a disturbing lack of Prudence.

While we're on the topic: " 15y Dawiar Shakakoun Frigate (2309.Q4) "

I know the Shakakoun is obsolete as the Soyuz/Miranda and would be a waste of a report, but it's just sitting there taunting me!

Would a general "Dawiar Ships Report" be something we can pick? No stats, just 1. The names of their ship classes, 2. Their classifications (Frigate/Cruiser/Capital/Explorer), 3. Are they Active/Obsolete/Retired ?

Or is that all the domain of a Fleet Strength Report?

I honestly don't care enough about the Dawiar ships. We know the Khalhahad Mk. 2 is a cruiser, 1.2mt, and we know that it's awful (we have the full statline). Therefore the Shakakoun is a frigate, and about Soyuz level. In fact, I'm guessing it might be exactly a Soyuz.

I actually want a Fleet Strength Report on the Konen, Dylaarians and Goshawnar. See how they stack up against our Members.

I've actually compiled a list of my own that's weighted differently. Some ships have more stats on the wiki than the tracking sheet would suggest either due to GM edits or having gleaned them from task force updates.

A brief list, for the soon-arriving Steering Committee, of ships we have no stats for, and ships we have bad stats for. I have attempted to list these in rough order of how little we know and how likely we are to encounter one opposing us.

We also have no stats for a Dreamer or any other cosmozoa besides the space beasts from way early in the quest who haven't been relevant for over 3500 pages, but only Q and Oneiros know if they can even be represented this way. And finally it's technically true we have bad stats for Eternal Empire dreadnoughts of the Vranrir-A and Dromorir-A or no stats for the Dawiar Shakakoun frigate but as none are currently known to be active they're not on the list and anyone voting for them will be subjected to repeated vertical visits from Hortance the Horta until they get the hint.

NO STATS
Imelak Breeder, Host, Jockey, and Hound (Hound might be a small craft); we have no data on Imelak starships period.
Goshawnar Motherhen
Dylaarian Voyager Support Cruiser
Hishmeri Thoroughbred
HoH Dancer Pattern Strike Corvette
Romulan New Scout Frigate
Gorn First Rate, Second Rate, Third Rate
Trill Cruiser (existence mentioned in logs, but no stats)
ISC Sentry scout cruiser
Yrillian Defender and Carryall

BAD OR INCOMPLETE STATS
HoH Liberator
Goshwanar Aiele and Warhawk
Konen Silence, Whisper, and Banshee
Cardassian Kapit Destroyer
Cardassian Kaldar-bis
Gorn Second Rate II, Gator , Excellent
Gorn Science Frigate
Licori Lizard, Vulture, Spiny Mouse frigates, Jackrabbit cruiser, and Sandworm battleship
Licori Coyote
Cardassian Kapit Scientist and Tolkor
Lecarre Suop
OSA Switch frigates, Ray, Isopod

Romulans apparently have some sort of science/scout ship.

Don't forget that its almost time for the Snakepit vote. So we will probably see it first than any new Log posts.

Actually we're waiting on the Task Force quarterly reports. We have many new TFs starting this quarter so that's going to be a trip.

Romulans apparently have some sort of science/scout ship.

sounds like our keplar but maybe more combat and less science
also do all romulan ships have cloak or just the battle line ones?

i am unclear on that at this point?

All of them at this point I think, we've had our stuff vandalized by a cloaked shuttle before.

wondering how much cross border stuff is happening both with the romulans and the klingons from the federation side and vis versa.

would be interested to see how say a meeting between a romulan vet and a klingon warrior would go on say a fed starbase.

"You crippled my Bird of Prey."
"And you mine."
"It was a glorious battle!"
"... I did rather enjoy myself."
"Same time next decade?"
"You know it."

The Romulans have both a "science ship" which is apparently like an Oberth and is ancient.
And they have started to build some kind of unknown scout ship, which I presume will fill the scout/skirmish role for them.

Actually, that should be on our member and affiliate fleet doc.

And the Shakakoun is active 2322 so no, it is very much a ship that we don't know stats of.
