Alright...

First off, Eddie Leslie and Huth blasch Cheg go into my little org charge for tracking.
Captain blasch Cheg doesn't occupy any position I'm aware of on your org chart. He's IN Design, but he doesn't run it. Captain Leslie does, but you'd left it blank and I doubted you actually had anyone in mind for it; I hope you didn't?

I wouldn't have given him a named position on your org chart, except I figured he almost had to have made captain by now, and there wasn't a suitable billet I could make up for a captain in that area of responsibility except the ones on the org chart.

[I only gave him the first name Eddie because his actor's named Eddie and I salted the story with references to the actor's real experiences on TOS. In the series, Ensign Leslie never actually had a first name]

And I've halve the SR costs for the first four Connie-Bs to represent collected materials.

...Wow. Coool. Thanks!

Not QUITE what I said(we still have to build them), but you are still hereby crowned king of the thread. Hail King Jester!

[does happy dance in crown]

I'll be honest, when I wrote that I was basically saying that we couldn't get ConnieBees for free or supercheap. Because I knew Oneiros would never go for that because of game balance. And yet, in game, it would make sense for Starfleet to mothball the Connies, and you'd think reactivating them would be easy... so I had to come up with a reason why that couldn't happen. But one that would still allow us to in some way reuse equipment or supplies from the original Constitutions.

This was the best I could come up with- incompetent mothballing procedure results in the ships being rendered unsuitable for reactivation. I kind of hoped it would result in improvement to special resource cost (note: I'd have been actively disappointed at reduction in bulk resource cost, since that would have contradicted the spirit of the post).

Accounting only for the effect of this bonus, we save half of the 80 SR cost on the first four ConnieBees, which makes constructing them extremely favorable and frees up a good deal of special resources for, say, Centaur or Excelsior construction.

Yay!

EDIT:

I move that the ConnieBee statline from the 2406 Snakepit turn be moved to the front page.

It also occurred to me that my omake provides a good justification for the lower Hull value of the ConnieBees compared to the original Constitution-class. The original Hull value of four was based on the 'treated tritanium' hull frames, which are objectively stronger than the original design hull.

Cheron, an honest-to-God vintage refit Connie, actually IS about 30% more durable than either the ConnieBees or (presumably) the pre-refit Connies. Because the hull is made out of stronger material! Presumably her SIF was never turned off entirely for long enough for the material to go bad. :D

If we are relaunching Constitutions, we may want to look into reusing their old names:

Constitution class gives us the Ahwahneee, Constellation, Defiant, Eagle, Emden, Engeavour, Enterprise, Excalibur, Exeter, Hood, Intrepid, Korolev, Lexington, and Potemkin.

The original Constellation, Intrepid, and Defiant were all lost or destroyed, so salvaged ships were either not them, or replacements of the same name.

Carolina, Farragut, Kongo, Merrimac, Olympia, Republic, Valiant, and Yorktown are also names that were likely Constitutions.

On the other hand, most of the ones that are not already in use elsewhere are explicitly Human names.

Wow, look at all those storied names. I say at least one of them in the first batch should be named the Constitution, the namesake of the class come again. First and last, you know.

The 'theme' for on-screen Connie names, so far as I could tell last time I looked through them, is that most of them are successor ships of noted combatants in the Pacific Theatre of the Second World War. If we stick to Human names then we could name them after other ships of the same era?

Could we do a 'Heroes of the Federation' theme?
like one of the names I would like is the Captain that went down with Admiral Aelin.

I might have missed the talk about it but why are we getting a refit for Constitutions rather than the Constellations?

People expect – or at least worry – that we'll be at war with the Cardassians sometime in the next 4 to 10 years, and for that the Constitution is optimal. If it was longer than that the Renaissance would have been fine; if it was shorter than that, then they wouldn't come quickly enough to matter.

We need something to build in our 1mt berths, and it turns out the Renaissance project is farther away than we thought.

We are probably going to get the Constellation refit eventually if only to upgrade our existing, but the sad fact is the Constellation Refit would still be inferior in combat to most Cardassian ships, so they'd be stuck on home sector defense if conflict escalated.

Honestly, lighter but more numerous Light Cruisers would be good if we could get the numbers to organize 'Wolf Packs' of them. that said, are Cloaking Devices possible eventually?

This is correct. We're probably starting the Rennie next turn thanks to the QM's promise to bend the rules a bit to make it work since it's canon that it DID work, but we need ships NOW.

Nope. Treaty ban. Plus we'd probably eat Mil just for floating the idea.
