So as a break from the Plan arguments, I had a few comments on the other stuff in the Snakepit....
To start off, let's compare election results with my
pundits omake.
Federation Broadcast Service, Election Night Headlines
Expansion Candidate Fanath th'Inank in a shock upset secures Kadann over Development Councillor Somo sh'Viarriq
I had Kadann as being upset at what they saw as their relative isolation, and hence ripe for an upset.
In a surprise, the Hawks flip Thiak V, Kas zh'Hanash defeating the incumbent ch'Vuhlan-X
I failed to predict this, but I guess the proximity to the KvR war was too much for them and they got nervous.
But Shrantet III does the reverse, and the Expansionist Aror th'Tirhen are returned to power at the expense of the Hawk Jhran zh'Chevyth
A real shocker. I thought for sure that zh'Chevyth would keep her seat after she got them that starbase she specifically campaigned on.
Human Worlds:
Development keeps Joburg again, returning Cassandra McCale-D comfortably
Per my omake, McCale promised to expand their shipyard to build more civilian ships.
Councillor Josef Nkumba of Mars-D ends his long tenure, losing to the former Admiral Rogers-H
(blinks)
Wow. I never really thought it would happen when I
set this up way back when.
DLAMINI: I also note your mayoral term of office would be up just in time to run for the Mars Council seat. On the Hawks ticket perhaps?
ROGERS: It would be wildly premature to talk about that. I haven't even won this election yet, and my focus is completely on this city.
DLAMINI: Early polls look good for you, though. No comment at all?
ROGERS: It would be nice to see the Federation Council chambers again. Maybe someday I'll go to Paris and take the tour. Or something.
In the more recent omake too...
LAUREN: I can't add much to that, so let's go to Sol system and talk Mars. Now this is an interesting one. Mars is a Development stronghold, but more than that it's a symbol of Development ethos. We humans took an airless rock and made it into a major world through industrial effort, effort we could leverage because it's in the same system as Earth. It's the Development alternative to going out and settling an M-class world dozens of light years away. What they'd like to see all systems do.
NUGH: I'm sensing a note of caution incoming.
LAUREN: You'd be right. It's a combination of factors. Josef Nkumba has held the seat for a long time now, and many local commentators are saying it's time for a change. There's also a strong push by the Hawk candidate Solomon Rogers. Rogers is current Mayor of Olympus Mons and former Commander of Starfleet. He's been talking up Utopia Planitia, the great Starfleet shipyard over Mars, as 'the arsenal of the Federation'. He's also skeptical about Treaty of Mars, saying the Romulans won't hesitate to break it the instant they thought it was to their advantage to do so.
NUGH: What, did he not want to sign it?
LAUREN: He's fine with signing it; he just says it'll last only as long as it's backed up by force. Now all of that said, Development still has the clear advantage. If they lose, though, it'll be a huge symbolic blow to lose Mars.
Rogers you smug bastard.... Oh this is going to be
fun. So much fun. You like President Ladycat, I guarantee 'ole Solomon is going to finagle his way onto whatever committee oversees Starfleet. He may not be able to give orders, but he'll certainly "ask questions". And the funniest part is, I'm sure he'll consider himself to be "Starfleet's ally".
Time to break out a round of applause for another old veteran of the Council. Expansionist Party leader Rob Langford of Earth has conceded victory to the Pacifist candidate Trina Bettelheim in a shock upset.
Trina is from my omake!
In an apparent backlash to go-slow tactics employed in the leadup to the Arcadian War, Councillor Casey Wang of New Seoul-P has been defeated not by the Expansionists who were tipped to take the seat, but by Development candidate Mahmud Sukarno.
Called it.
Tellarite Worlds:
Lagh Cheg II remains a safe Development seat, returning Duss bav Xorggarv easily.
Huh, I had Duss bav Xorggarv as not running for reelection, making it an open seat.
Vulcan Worlds:
Vrol of Hagelan-P overturns predictions by keeping the seat he took from the Expansionists at the last election.
NUGH: Guilty. I believe it's my turn, so let's talk Hagelan. It went from Expansionist to Pacifist last election. After the fact political commentary suggests that for most of the voters it was a matter of political strategy. They still believe in Expansionist ideals, but the pacing was not to their satisfaction and they wanted a slowdown. They voted Pacifist as the next most acceptable alternative.
Looks like they still want a slowdown.
...and in electoral news that is pending a Level 0 diagnostic of Solitude's electoral machines, a rare and unexpected ray of light for the Hawks, as T'Prinit-P loses her seat to Hawks T'Jal.
Oh damn, Solitude got them a Hawk! Well that poor border world has certainly seen enough trouble to leave them nervous.
Most notably, there is no longer any path to a 2 party majority, with all party combinations now requiring support from at least three sources.
(cut)
[Next Elections - (2319) Rigel/Indoria, (2320) Amarkia]
Rigel has 3 Mercantile seats and 1 Expansionist. Indoria has 1 Development and 1 Expansionist. Looks like nothing but opportunity for the Hawks and the Pacifists, as they can't possibly lose seats.
Current Federation Affiliates:
Kadeshi 353/500 + 44 = 397/500
Honiani 435/500 + 35 = 470/500
Ked Paddah 344/500 + 22 = 366/500
Yan-Ros 413/500 + 33 = 446/500
Laio 269/500 + 26 = 295/500
Tauni 362/500 + 28 = 390/500
Ashidi 240/100 + 33 = 273/500
At this point it's a race to see whether the Yan-Ros merge with the Honiani before they reach 500/500 with the Federation or not. I would not expect to see much from the Laio for reaching 300, though, and the Ashidi might have blockages to closer affiliation due to their paranoia. They'd want to know the Federation for longer, no matter how good relations are.
