[X] Vice Admiral Hikaru Sulu

In addition to liking him, I think the President will pick him to try to get reflected Enterprise glory reflected at her, and given combat fame, will likely underestimate him as a sharp political player too. She has no real idea what she is dealing with yet.

Sulu's one of those potentially dangerous individuals who doesn't necessarily need to work with the office of the President, or indeed within any mechanism of government, to get things done. I'm looking forward to the first time N'Gir gets the rug pulled out from under her in the same way one can't help but look at a train wreck. Although I must state that such a situation would not be good for Starfleet.

You know, I bet the only person more annoyed than me with the name of the new peeps is Alexandria Kuznetsova.

Because now she has to run around and rename a bunch of stuff in her tactical simulations.

(Yes I am implying that the entire Starfleet Battles/ Starfleet Command Universe exists in universe as an Aggressor Nation ATL style Tactical exercise set up by Alexandria Kuznetsova so that she can secretly run a massive LARP/Strategic Wargame with all the resources of Starfleet at her disposal to do it and no one else the wiser)

...There's an Omake in there.

This must be done.

Also, Rob Kinichi keeps sending her race/ship designs using exotic weapon tech that he swears could work in real life.

If I were to consider actual personalities rather than the thread vote, I think N'Gir would pick Chen. The big reason for this is that Chen isn't as much of a political player, and N'Gir wants someone who just runs Starfleet and stays away from Federation policy.

So when does N'Gir pick Sulu? Because she gets communications from literally thirty Councillors asking if she's considering the benefits of Hikaru Sulu for Commander of Starfleet.

SADEK: I take it that Admiral Sulu has been calling in all of his political tokens?

N'GIR: Only a third of them... half at most. The entire United Earth contingent is backing him. If you wonder why, one of them listed his ability to, and I quote, "wrangle whales" as part of his qualifications.

SADEK: Indeed. I suppose we must bow to politics occasionally.

N'GIR: ....

SADEK: ....

N'GIR: Sadek, you walked into this room five minutes ago and told me you felt you owed Admiral Sulu serious consideration.

SADEK: I believe what I actually said was that I owe Admiral Sulu, and therefore he has my consideration.

Honestly, I think she'd pick ch'Tharvasse if anyone. He's been Chief of Staff for the Admiral for so long, and despite his political ability has never really raised a fuss about anything. If she wanted someone she knew, had actually met, and who was quietly competent, he'd definitely be in consideration. I feel Chen is an unknown quantity from the President's perspective. She could be a safe pick, or she could be a radical expansionist like her mentor Kahurangi.

Of course she may feel that quietly competent isn't enough. Star power has its own appeal, and it's possible she's counting on a rising tide floating her own boat too. And yes, there's probably some pressure from the outside. I can imagine the Pacifists, Expansionists, and Hawks all throwing much of their support behind Sulu.

Chen is the shipyard ops VADM, former Chief of staff, and the protege.

Shey is the relatively new Chief of staff, and a high politics admiral.
Chen never was Chief of Staff, as far as we know. She headed the Explorer Corps, then Utopia Planitia, then Shipyard Operations.

ch'Tharvasse has been Chief of Staff for over a decade (starting before it was made a VADM position) and headed Starfleet Intelligence before that.
