When you are an EC Captain, you may screw up, but the Admiral will cover for you.

When you are the Admiral, nobody will cover for you.

Yeah, remember when Straak botched security, a Councillor died, and he had to personally kill an assassin with Vulcan martial arts?

Kahurangi made sure that made him the hero, and if not for her own massive personal prestige she could have easily been fired over that fiasco.

There have been a fair number of situations where we go "okay, that was a cock-up" and the captains or commodores get off cleanly because Starfleet itself takes the blow-back.

From what I remember, during character creation in STO, humans were noted to live up to 150 on average. No idea if they simply made that number up or if canon backs it up. It would make sense though, what with all that advanced technology.

Straak?

Although for some reason the idea that Councillor Stesk spends his time training on Mount Arsekicking, highest peak on Vulcan, when Council is not in session amuses me. Deep in his little green Pacifist heart it says, "Peace Through Power!"

He was the diplomacy specialist, am I correct? Our goal for the future should be to get guys like the Sydraxians, Konen and the Dawiar out of the Ashalla pact in order to weaken Cardassia without any risky wars and to manage the flood of new neighbours we will have after the next wave of members. He seems like a good fit for that stuff.

Yes, Straak.

We did speculate at one point that Stesk is so firmly committed to pacifism because he's seen some shit in his younger days, though. I would not be surprised if the man could kick ass. Ambassador Sarek knew Vulcan martial arts, iirc.

Despite the expansion in the ranks of Vice Admirals, it will not be until the next assignment to Commander, Starfleet that they are viable options for selection.

Dutifully,
Sadek
UFP Councillor

I hope my Vice Admirals Romulan intelligence report helped with fleshing out some of those folks if you end up having to run them.

I came away with more affection for all of them, really.

Viraan zh'Dohlen is kind of a prankster with a ready wit. She's actually not specially talented in any particular way and makes up for it by working twice as hard as anyone else, to the point where she has no life outside her job.

Sotak gives off this calm, collected, wise grandfather vibe and is an actual artisan craftsman in his off-time, giving people hand-made gifts.

John Harriman is a loveable goober and history nerd. He genuinely cares about people, and they care about him in return.

T'Faer is an obnoxious jackass, and it's all the worse because she's almost always right.

In case you're curious, I did re-read that omake before writing up the Admiral vote :)

Unless I misunderstand this, that is us breaking it first.
And as everyone has said, offensive war is an absolute last resort for the us. If even removing the potential threat of the Licori Mentats was politically controversial, an attack against a power already distracted by another war is downright (*ahem*) offensive to the pacifists and likely also the development faction.
Nah, that's shifting our GBZ RoE closer to theirs.

[X] Vice Admiral Hikaru Sulu

I think 79 is young enough not to be a problem, given life-extension technology. If he was in his 90s I'd be more worried.

"I practice martial arts as an excercise in discipline and self-control. Restraint in all things body and mind is how I follow the teachings of Surak."

"That may be Councillor, but you also just used one Yan-Ros assassin to beat another two into submission."

I see no problems with pacifists being able to fight if they have to.

Besides, martial arts can be a form of meditation too, good for the body, mind and spirit.

[X] Vice Admiral Shey ch'Tharvasse

Gotta say, the Cat president is really annoying. Reading the segment in her pov didn't endear her to me at all. And the line about 'lol, war' just argh. >~<

[X] Vice Admiral Hikaru Sulu

I am voting Sulu because I consider him most likely to expose the Lecarre infiltrator currently impersonating President N'Gir.
