Starfleet also seems fine with someone just sort settling in at a niche and staying in a junior-ish rank for decades at a time.

    We definitely want to put MrrShan on the shore billet so she can jump back into the Explorer Corps asap. Nash should join the GBZ fleet where she can wreak despair and horror upon the spoonheads. Not so sure about the others.

    Losing a ship, even when you save the entire crew, is a blow to a captain. Also Mrr'shan has been on space duty a long time. I say give her a shore post for a couple of years, and then we can move her to Commodore in an operations post.

    If we're considering ka'Sharren for the very highest ranks down then line, then some experience with staff at Starfleet command will be invaluable to her career. It'll let her serve directly under the next Commander of Starfleet.

    Thuir on the other hand has been away from space duty for a long time before the Licori war. Let him get some more experience commanding large ship groups over in the Licori Border Zone.

    "Ship Design Bureau" is the name of our research branch, for anyone who might not remember that. He can help with sensor design or minerals research. Maybe his assignment is what's represented by the boost to VSA during their geo sensors research we just voted for?

    Why do people want to sabotage the careers of our (former) EC captains? If they have enough merits to deserve a promotion and enough TIR to justify one they should be promoted. EC captains already have a severe disadvantage compared to other officers as far as advancement goes, our vice admirals all either never served in the EC or are much older than their peers, like Sulu and Uhura. Why deliberately vote to make that even worse?

    Because most of them are Explorer Captains to be exactly that, not to climb the ladder.
    Keeping them ship-sized or nearby is doing them a favor, not hindering them.

    None of them have more than five years in their current rank except Straak. And where are you getting that Sulu and Uhura are significantly older than their peers? Your complaints are groundless.

    True. Spending ten years as a commodore before making rear admiral is far from unreasonable, and Mrr'shan was promoted directly to captain when she took over the Enterprise.
