Looking over the submissions for the next generation Amarki Frigates in the design thread.
Did you know that we (where we is the people with both access to the design spreadsheets and the knowledge of how to use them for best effect) can design a Frigate that is slightly more expensive than a Centaur-A, but has the defenses (Hull and Shield) of an Excelsior? On a hull 1/3 of the size.
Our base Excelsior's are starting to show the age of their design .... We need a break from wars so we can refit them all and get the Ambassador project started.
Well, five years ago we called that the Renaissance.
e: I've said repeatedly that the Excelsior is very much a garrison/event generalist design. We certainly can make a ship that fights and takes hits as well as it does, and we already did in the Rennie. But we can't make a small ship that fights as well as the Excelsior does and also has science and presence and endurance to respond to events the way the Excelsior does. The upcoming Kepler will be S7, P4 or P5, D3 or D4 but it can't fight its way out of a paper bag. So for frigates and light cruisers, we can do either the fighting role or the event response role. But putting both missions on the same hull requires about 2mt still.
Also, that Amarki heavy frigate has a mediocre science and abysmal presence score compared to its other stats. We'd take militarization if we used a design like that for Starfleet.

Yeah, they're out-and-out warships designed to support Hebrindas and Rialas. The Amarkians may even be interested in a workhorse cruiser to supplement the Hebrinda-A.

I've received a missive from the Selindra Institute of Stellar Cartography expressing their frustration that no Starfleet or Amarkian starship became available to conduct an outreach with the Obar science vessel exploring nearby systems. It is some relief that the Councillor for Selindra is a Iftie Cufriec, a Hawk, and they have sent a note understanding our plight.
Despite this, as a Starfleet officer myself, I personally regret the lack of an opportunity to meet with the Obar.

Captain's Log, USS Lexington, Stardate 25828.8 - Captain Winslow
The Honiani-Yan Ros task force just launched what may in fact be the most peculiar deep-space insertion assault that has ever been recorded by a sentient species. We altered course into the seemingly uninhabited Tabr system to keep tabs on the Honiani ship. They spotted us incoming, and sent us a message asking us to run silent and keep our distance. We did so, trusting Federation affiliates. They moved into orbit around a barren rock, and performed a ... trans-lunar insertion, deploying Yan-Ros rangers in vacuum gear, which managed to land on the surface of the science lab that was secretly built into the planet's moon. This moon was home to a foetal variant of the dangerous crystalline macro-organisms that destroyed the Suvek.

Ambassador's Log, Morshadd, Stardate 25829.3
It is my pleasure to announce that the Ked Paddah prisoners of war held on Morshadd by House Tartresis affiliates, some held for years, have been released. They were transported aboard cargo ships from the Licori Border Zone's Auxiliary force. I spoke to a number of the Ked Paddah prisoners personally, and they are overjoyed to be coming home, while at the same time, the Tartresis officials I have spoken to show palpable relief.
Although it wasn't the goal, I will also say that it has been great optics. House Tartresis has been given a great shot in the arm as far as legitimacy goes. Combined with our attempts to get the word out, we are starting to produce some real headway against this new rising vein of pro-Romulan sentiment.

Starbase Commander's Log, Stardate 25829.7
Long-range sensors are picking up 'ghosts' in the returns near the Issynia Draw, an area of subspace interference that passes through the border zone near the edge of the Rigellian and Sol Sectors.
It may be nothing, but we've been unable to get a ship out there to investigate. We have advised all member world fleets to exercise caution in that area.

Captain's Log, USS Bull, Stardate 25832.5
The Risans have an expedition looking into a prospective new cordial to mix drinks with - no, I am not making this up, Rear Admiral - on the marginally habitable planet of Aqib. They called us in after a staunch disagreement - no, I am not making this up, Rear Admiral - with a Caitian Colonial Authority expedition team. Suffice to say, I wish that all of our diplomatic missions could resolve themselves so amicably.
Risans with a true interest in space are quite the rare breed; I find that it is always interesting to come across the quirks of these starfarers.

Captain's Log, USS Enterprise, Stardate 25832.9 - Captain Samhaya Mrr'shan
We have delivered a number of Tartresis prisoners into the Calamar system, where we made the exchange with a frigate and two auxiliary ships.
Regrettably, Warmaster Halkh went a different way, preferring to be released on Morshadd proper.

Ambassador's Log, Rigel, Stardate 25833.4
The Rigellians have had a productive encounter with a Honiani prospector near their borders, carrying on talks and exchanging charts and scientific data. Regrettably, with the loss of the Suvek, there are no suitable vessels to go meet with the SS Outstretched.

Ambassador's Log, Morshadd, Stardate 25833.7
I'm not sure how I feel about this. It could end wonderfully, it could end in a disaster.
It appears that someone saw fit to provide Warmaster Halkh with copies of the Magna Carta, and a number of bills of rights, and declarations of independence from the pre-space eras of many Federation founding members. I'm not sure what he has in mind, but he has been pursuing meetings with dozens of old friends and contacts.

Captain's Log, USS Enterprise, Stardate 25834.2
The delivery of the the Tartresis prisoners was a heartwarming experience, as a number of noble families travelled out with the frigate to meet the returning officers. To every species family means something slightly different, but to very few does it mean little. It is hard sometimes to think of the spacers that were slain facing us as having families, friends, lives outside the brief pulse of battle. But it is important to caitianise your foes, lest you tred dark paths.
From here we will return to our Task Force's station at

Yes, Lieutenant? Okay, move to Yellow Alert, and advise the Commodore we're chasing a sensor contact.

Task Force Commander's Log, Task Force 2, Stardate 25834.7 - Commodore Nash ka'Sharren
A Licori research cruiser was spotted on long-range sensors. We had orders to return to the task force, but I'm not inclined to allow a possible mentat ship to peel off away from Licori space to pop up who knows where. Even if detaching an Excelsior for the task is a ludicrous over-investment.
Except ... it may not be ludicrous over-investment. Starfleet Intelligence already had good details about this type of research cruiser, and it should be able to manage no more than Warp 9.5 at a burst, no more than Warp 8 sustained. This one is currently happily humming along at ... lemme just check. Ah. Warp Factor 13.
So there's that.
More concerningly, after it accelerated, upon spotting us, we started detecting a steady stream of chronitons from the ship. There's clearly some very clever mentats on board, with a very clever plan, and if I didn't have a very clever Chief Engineer doing things that would make the people who wrote the manual on our warp core and warp nacelles blanch, we'd never be able to keep up with them.

Fleet Commander's Log, Rear Admiral Victoria Eaton, Stardate 25837.6
Admiral, I regret to say that we appear to have lost all contact with the Enterprise.
Our last information was a packet sent through to Mission Control as they approached the Aga Carmide system. However, there the trail stops. There is no mentat ship, no Enterprise. Only massive subspace and temporal turbulence.

This is what, the third temporal incident with Nash aboard the Enterprise-B? I feel so sorry for The Department of Temporal Investigations. They must have rejoiced at the "death" of Kirk so hard only to discover that Nash really is "Kirk: Now available in blue!"

Captain's Log, USS Bull, Stardate 24543.6 - Captain Kwame Okoye
I have completed the mapping assessment originally undertaken by the ill-fated USS Lion. Whether it is because of the anomaly experienced recently, or natural occurrences, space-time in the Aga Carmide system is turbulent. More than that, it is fascinating. There is much to learn here, much to see, and study.
I am recommending to Starfleet that a research colony be established in Aga Carmide. By our estimates, it will be well over a thousand years before some of the pockets of curvature flatten again, making a colony well-worth it.
