I'll be busy for rest of the week at least, so can't participate much (and then I'll have to trudge through 20+ pages of discussion ><), but some interesting notes:

Dhara Heavy Industry Park (Andor) - Prepare components for 2x1mt Repair Yard Berths (3 Months) - ETC 2315.Q1.M3.F1
Gorc Belth Colonial Engineers - Place defensive minefields in Kappa Tau (Sets minefield of Low Density, Low Waves, High Strength, Medium Stealth) - 1 month

Both of these should finish this month. In particular, 2315.Q1.M3.F1 is the current in-game date.

Does this mean that both Dhara Heavy Industry Park and Gorc Belth Colonial Engineers will be available for new assignments this month?

The engineers should obviously work on building the 2x1mt repair yard, while the heavy industry team ... well we'll see what other repairs/construction may need to be rushed then.

North America Productivity Commission (UESPA) - Brute force repairs for USS Hood (1.5x penalty to cost, 4x speed increase)
Morchell Arebb Complex (Rigel) - Brute force repairs (1.5x penalty to cost, 4x speed increase) Yagad-Tich

Doesn't match the vote, but maybe the doubling up on brute force repairs isn't valid anyway.

Too bad the second megatortoise isn't getting rushed in the end. Having another of those would be damned useful when we run into more minefields.

I'm thinking of doing another ship-analysis omake for the megatortoise. Last one was the Shakakoun (smallest frigate in the game), so a giant supercap would be a nice one to do next.

Oh. I thought the plan was to do that when we got another HI team free. Oops.

I'd read it!

Oooh ooh yay!

If we are going to name Ships after ships, don't we have to start with the original otp: Spirk?
Enterprise:

"...Oh right, that one! I saved a lot of dilithium running off the yelling imbalances that one set up between the Kirk-Rand and Spock-Chapel pairings."

[x][WS] Base Plan Runabouts and Ships
-[x] Starfleet Academy Red Squad Runabouts - Recon team (4 cost for Starfleet, gain +1 to outpost and starbase attempts to detect incoming ships)
-[x] Federalise Fleet Units from Rigel: 1 Turtleship
-[x] Federalise Fleet Units from United Earth: 1 Constitution-B, 1 Centaur-A
-[x] Federalise Fleet Units from Tellar: 1 Centaur-A
-[x] Bank 10 points

I actually kind of prefer Briefvoice's innovation of grabbing the generic internal diplo team but here is an alternative for those who want to save points. The ships would all be destined for TF3.

-Task Force 6, Naval Supervisor Anak Hadd-Banad
--IGS Hadd-Mal, Gaeni Tech-Cruiser, Senior Naval Specialist Kant Tarkoia-Mal
--IGS Pall-Keat, Gaeni Tech-Cruiser
--IGS Tar-Anat, Gaeni Tech-Cruiser
--IGS Akad-Noa, Gaeni Tech-Cruiser
--IGS Fadath-Toir, Gaeni Tech-Frigate, Mid-Senior Naval Specialist Loia Maladd-Toir
--IGS Hidik-Daya, Gaeni Tech-Frigate
--IGS Nuoth-Far, Gaeni Tech-Frigate
Also I just want to say I love the Gaeni ranks.

The choice here seems to be one internal diplo team for 20 vs red squad for 4 and perhaps some ships and maybe the 8-point Tellarite HI. There is the final 10-point engineering team, but it's out of Rigel's deteriorating support, which may not be wise. Perhaps we should spend 10 and save 10, too.

Woo! Red Squad(ron)!

... I'll catch up on the timeline... Sometime.

I'm done with the very first personal log from the Academy series. It's the first snippet I'm comfortable releasing. I'll post it once I have another look over it.

So I think we should keep the Federation Emergency Committee mobilized one more month so that we can order this:

Starfleet Reserve Personnel (20pt from Starfleet, +20 O/E/T for duration of SoE only, one-time)

We don't quite need them yet, but better to have and not need than need and not have. And we're likely to take enough casualties that we will need them.

Testing, one, two, three. Looks like the automatic transcription is working perfectly.

It feels strange saying my thoughts to a computer so that they can be recorded for posterity, but I suppose it's just another thing I will have to get used to, like wearing a uniform. At least it's comfortable and red - red's my favorite color -- hang on. That's not how you spell color.

Computer, set default transcription language to Canadian English.

Colour. Favourite. Poutine. There we go. Much better.

Anyway, this week is dedicated to getting us adjusted to Academy life, and Starfleet in general. Aside from a few tours, introductory seminars and activities, and our physical, the week is empty. Great-Aunt Sofie, who ran security on the Lexington, mumbled something about lowering standards when I got in, but I am pretty sure she means well. She was very happy when she heard Lexington was being recommissioned - she served under Admiral Kahurangi on the Lexington. We haven't seen her for a long time - I think the last time was in '98 or '99, when she was on sabbatical.

I'm still not quite sure what I want to study at the academy yet. Something in the School of Astrosciences will do for a major, but that doesn't cover what track I'll follow. It won't be administration though. It's a necessary track, but that doesn't make me want to sit behind a desk all day. I want to be on an Excelsior or Ambassador, pushing the frontiers, one light-hour at a time.

I'm not sure what else to say, so I'll end this log here. With a lot of hard effort, and a bit of luck, I can - no - I will soar through the stars.

Cadet Oliver Rondeau, signing off.

A/N: Thoughts? Consider this a prologue/pilot for a series, as well as a RFC. I'm still in the world generation stage, but this should be a nice appetizer.

I think technically speaking Lexington wasn't refitted as much as it was recommissioned as basically an entirely new vessel. If it's one of the ones that got cannibalized it would basically consist of the Refit Lexington's nacelles and some warp core and computer components IIRC.

Fair enough. Edited (as of 30 seconds in the future).

Now that the Ship vote is open, I have edited my vote to add it it. I propose adding the Rru'adorr to Task Force 4, since right now TF only has C26. A second Excelsior will beef it up considerably and give it more ability to hold off a serious attempt by the Arcadians to penetrate our lines and hit one of our worlds. ("Serious" meaning 5+ ships.)

[X][SHIP] Task Force 4

EDIT: I think that Task Force 4 could use one more heavy hitter. It's a little under-powered right now if it had to hold off a serious strike. So I'm assigning the Rru'adorr there.

[X][WS] Plan Recon and Diplomacy
-[X] Starfleet Academy Red Squad Runabouts - Recon team (4 cost for Starfleet, gain +1 to outpost and starbase attempts to detect incoming ships)
-[X] Generate Generic Internal Diplomacy Team from United Earth (10 Cost to Starfleet, 5 Cost to Member World, gain Internal Diplomacy Team)

This is pretty cost efficient. We get another recon team and we get a generic team, with 14 of the cost from Starfleet (the place we're least worried about losing war support).

How about my proposal above? EDIT: Benefit is that we can assign the generic team to start raising war support, cushioning shock, and that sort of thing.

Basically, due to improper mothballing procedures and bad interactions with an experimental material science technique from the 2270s, the old Constitutions are masses of loosely connected metal dust in the shape of a Connie. Only the warp nacelles (some of them) and deflectors (some of them) and the internal machinery (some of it) were salvageable. The Constitution-Bs contain a significant number of salvaged parts, and spare parts for the Constitution-As that were never used. However, the entire physical framework of the ships had to be rebuilt, and much of the equipment was replaced with more modern equipment.

We certainly paid for the ConnieBees as if they were brand new ships, though we got a reduced price on the SR cost for the first four (including Lady Lex), as a result of reuse of Constitution-A components. That was an omake bonus, though.

So basically, the question of whether 'our' Lexington is the same Lexington that got shot at during the M-5 incident in Kirk's day is a variation of the "Ship of Theseus" question in philosophy.

I changed it from refit, which is definitely wrong, to recommission.

I think I'll change it again to rebuild, or both.

If you want to be poetic, you could call it a reincarnation or a rebirth.
Hmm. My characterization is a bit bland. Any ideas for spicing it up? Oliver is Canadian, but that's all I have right now.

@Simon_Jester: Here's an idea for you.

Looking back, the model we seem to be going with for the Constitution rebuild project is that outlined in three of my omakes: These Old Bones, Old Heart, New Sinews, and Old Voices, New Vigor.

[Incidentally, some of the image links are broken because of the Great Dropbox Kerfloop; I still have the images, but don't know the best way to re-upload them in a way that will be stable. Suggestions?]
Imgur? I dislike it, but it's stable.

EDIT: Thread is sleepy :(

Only a handful of pages in a day.
