Also, I had been planning to leave the fate of the Gaeni Space Pirates deliberately vague so that you could choose to have them turn up later in the quest if you want.~
Gaeni pirates make me think of this song. Call it a reference to earlier days of Gaeni civilization, during their Age of Steam in all its bizarre glory. Complete with characteristic Gaeni recklessness...

They were seated on the Amarki battle bridge, less of a backup bridge than Starfleet's and more of a command pit, although it could serve as both. The Riala-class had been designed as a fleet flagship, after all. Admiral Toor had been kind enough to offer his battle bridge, but seemed somewhat disgruntled when she accepted. He had refused the offer of the Avandar's facilities and chose not to move to one of his cruisers, instead operating from the Abhriec's main bridge. He and the knight-captain, Mer Piaric, were well acquainted, and the Amarki command structure meant their admirals often worked closely with their captains, so she had permitted it. Her own command staff man the unfamiliar Amarki consoles with skill that only the best possess.
On the other side of the screen from the Amarkian squadron, her cruisers were peppering the Kalindraxes, who had caught the Agile and T'Kumbra in a cross-fire. The Republic flew between them to break the frigates out, taking several hits in return but dodging several more.
"Damnit Demora, have some respect for your ship," she hears Rivers curse over the comm. The computer really should have filtered that one out, but Ainsworth feels the same. It was a reckless move that could lose Captain Sulu crew.
This is true. However, T2 Diplomacy packages aren't super awesome themselves at the moment. We have new Explorer, cruiser, and science vessel designs coming out soon. The only thing we're going to want to replace anytime soon is the Miranda, and we aren't there yet for tech or for knowledge of what we'll need (cold war means we need an efficient combat cap design, hot war in the next 5 years and we'll be rebuilding). Combat escorts don't need good Presence either; they're unlikely to use more than one Diplomacy package and the difference between T1 and T2 is 0.9 -> 1.0 Presence.
Now, if we were designing the Amby in a few years things would be different, but as-is having 2 extra free rolls on non-affiliates, +10 to starting relations, and some stacking bonuses is much better. 3 rolls means we're just dropping pushes on non-affiliates we're competing for or to guarantee integration a year earlier.
Should be her voice, unless he's trans and hasn't gotten around to changing his name since the battle of Deva.
Shouldn't be here in the first place, though, as back in 2313Q4...
@SynchronizedWritersBlock, thank you for condensing that insanely long battlelog into something comprehensible. One minor detail:
Should be her voice, unless he's trans and hasn't gotten around to changing his name since the battle of Deva.
Shouldn't be here in the first place, though, as back in 2313Q4...
I liked this. The movement through the minefield was tense, and the battle felt true to Star Trek. I especially liked the detail that Starfleet phasers are orange, while Amarki phasers are purple. That little detail made the battle come alive for me, gave the Federation fleet an interesting character.
I have no idea what is available in terms of berths, so this is just guesswork.

Hopefully the Lightly Damaged ships can be done locally in the GBZ. If so, then we will have 9 ships from the strike force still in the GBZ in case of Cardassian response.
Medium and heavy damage will have to be sent to a berth - Kumari will need a >=2.5 MT slot, I think the rest can be squeezed into any 1MT berth - if there are 4 spare 1MT berths somewhere nearby in friendly territory.
If Kumari has to wait for a slot somewhere, once a berth becomes available, is it worth holding her there for a year and upgrading to an Excelsior-A pattern? Because if we have to wait, the next round of construction will be available before Kumari can get out of repairs anyway.
Starfleet repair crews haven't worked at this tempo for at least a decade. It feels like something every other month.
To summarise last month, we entered Challorn into the Collie repair yard, where she will remain for quite some time. The Exeter has arrived at Starbase 11, and will be back in service late next month. But now we have the new battle and while I know it could have been so much worse, trying to arrange repairs is nonetheless a logistical migraine. Especially after the start of all those Renaissance builds - the usual slack isn't there. The Apiata aren't making Rennies, but they are making plenty of Stingers to support the GBZ and their only spare bay still has the Saratoga in it. The Shield is no longer occupying Berth A at Indoria Drive Yard, but the Indorians want to take that berth offline for improvements and weren't well pleased when I told them we needed it for repairs again. My next best bet, Leas Akaam, has one berth refitting a Hebrinda-A, and the other building a brand-new Hebrinda-A, and the Amarkian Arsenal is set aside for Odala and Jolintoor. Starfleet Intel and the FDS are telling me the Seyek yards are off-limits. Basically, the nearest one megaton berth is at Green Hook Fleet Yard. In Vega.
In sum, we have three ships that can handle their own repairs, maybe with a little help from the Engineering ships. And we have three ships that need berths: Fidelity, Republic, and Kumari. The most problematic is Kumari, of course. The necessary berths are uncommon, after all. But everything is being worked on. The fright the Cardassians put through the member worlds and associates has everyone going full bore. Lagan-Shir, Cathedralforge, Gaen Manufacturing, Grand Hive, S'Naranya, Andoria Orbital, everything is in use.
[Commodore Suarez Personality details limit the following options]
[ ][REPAIR] "We can bargain with the Amarkians, arrange to repair their cruisers elsewhere" [20pp]
[ ][REPAIR] "We can tow Kumari to 40 Eridani A and wait for Voshev to complete."
[ ][REPAIR] "We can bump NCC-1665, a Miranda, from San Fran Berth A."
Captain's Log, USS Renaissance, Stardate 25569.4 - Captain Larai Leaniss
We have arrived in the Agamedes system, where the Tech-Cruiser Akad-Noa has taken the place of the Pallas-Abat. Another Gaeni ship is expected with dignitaries for a meeting with the Licori that will be facilitated by the USS Atuin. Further, I expect the USS Vigour to join us within the day.
My new command looks like it will be right in the middle of the action!
Our mission out here is to conduct further research, and assist the Akad-Noa, in determining what happened to make the star 'burp'.

Personal Log, Captain Larai Leaniss, Stardate 25569.5
I'm still getting used to the idea that this is my command. Giving the order to Ensign sh'Rinboq to take her out of dock gave me goosebumps.
-
Captain's Log, USS Sarek, Stardate 25570.1 - Captain Straak
There has been a most regrettable accident while the ship was taking on replenishments at Starbase 9, when we were witness to a collision between an Indorian Cargo Ship and an Orion freighter. I offered to provide testimony to the chief investigator, who is convening a board of inquiry at some haste. However, I have been dragged further into the matter, as it appears the Captain of the Orion vessel is blaming the actions of the Sarek for inducing the collision, and as a result, I am to be investigated by the board of inquiry.
-
Captain's Log, USS Cloudburst, Stardate 25571.4
A new-model Klingon Bird of Prey has been spotted mapping out parts of the Romulan Neutral Zone near Starbase 6 at Beta Indi. The station's sensors picked up anomalies in the area and we were able to confirm them. Although the USS Excelsior was on-hand, we were able to contact the warbird and convince it to leave peacefully.
[Klingon BoP2 returns with no incident, incident with Romulans/Klingons averted]
-
Captain's Log, USS Sarek, Stardate 25571.8
All sensor logs bar the Sarek's own appear to have been tampered with, such that it shows that this ship veered suddenly towards the Orion freighter, causing it to take evasive action into the cargo ship. As a result, I and my helmsman have been detained by Starfleet Security on Starbase 9, and I will have to prove my innocence.
-
Captain's Log, USS Atuin, Stardate 25572.4 - Captain Vol Chad
Facilitating a mission of peace for the Council, we have joined the Renaissance and Vigour at Agamedes. Bearing a number of Diplomatic Service representatives and the Councillor for Solitude, T'Prinit, we will host delegations from the Illuminated Technocracy of Gaen, and a noble delegation from the Arcadian Empire, and the House of Kortennon.
Just after our arrival, the Licori arrived as well, with a cruiser and frigate escort. On the Gaen side, Senior-Administrative Technocrat Dara-Gael Akatan has arrived on the IGS Hiddik-Daya.
May there be peace in these times.
-
Captain's Log, USS Lightning, Stardate 25572.7
I regret to report that we have failed to prevent a heist of valuable materials from the storage hubs at Ord Grind Duk outpost. Our warp engines were disabled, preventing us from pursuing, and the criminal gang that masterminded the heist has escaped, leaving few clues as to their identity.
I take full responsibility for this fiasco, and offer my resignation.
[Chief of Staff NB: Vice Admiral Uhura is still mulling over the resignation last she told me]
[Lost -20sr]

Captain's Log, USS Renaissance, Stardate 25573.4
Our science department has started to piece together some of the fundamental force interactions that led to the solar instability. The chief science officer will send through the meat of it. I have to say, I am feeling amazed by the capability of my science team. The Renaissance has clearly attracted many of the best and brightest.
[Gain +10rp]
-
Captain's Log, USS Sarek, Stardate 25574.1
In the end, my efforts to prove my innocence with material analysis were fruitless. However, by examining the flow of logical self-interest and financial transactions, I was able to piece together, and present a compelling case to the board of inquiry. In summary, the Orion freighter was uninsured, and the cost to the parent corporation would have been ruinous. In their desperation, they suborned civilian personnel on the station to alter the station sensor logs.
[Gain +10pp, Straak will have Medium Politics instead of Low Politics when promoted]

Gaen Ultimatum refused. War exists between ITOG and AE.
All tailward theatre commands, report status upon receipt
[Captain Alexandra Kuznetsova]: Yes, I know, the Cardassians and Sydraxians are in a real bind because of the capture of Lora.
[Vice Admiral Hikaru Sulu]: Then may I ask, Captain, why you feel we are in danger.
[Captain Alexandra Kuznetsova]: Well, I say "bind", but what I really mean, is Gordian Knot.
[Vice Admiral Hikaru Sulu]: Ah. ... Ahhh, yes, I see.
[Captain Alexandra Kuznetsova]: And they still have a really big knife to cut the knot. They don't even need to actually attack Sguirri, just demonstrate in force again. But if we don't empty Lora system to prepare to defend Sguirri, then they'll take the invitation, and the outpost.
-
Captain's Log, USS Atuin, Stardate 25574.9
I can't help but feel there was little genuine interest in a peaceful conclusion between the Technocracy and the Empire. At least, that was my feelings throughout the meetings. If either side would cave, that would suit the other, but short of that, I have very little room to work with. Councillor T'Prinit agreed.
The two sides returned to their ships, and engaged each other immediately, wtih the Gaeni Tech-Cruiser and Frigate disabling the Licori frigate and driving off the cruiser. T'Prinit forbade us from interfering, though I have a strong suspicion we will not long remain neutral in this conflict.
[-25 Relations with Licori, Gaen and Licori are at war]
Starfleet Tactical was right, the Cardassians have gathered a large force and are heading this way. This is a brief log, I have much to organise, and little time to do it in. All my ships in fighting trim are headed to Sguirri. Admiral Nerzizza and Commodore Revak are using their commands to draw off parts of the Cardassian force, to try and divide and whittle them down. I'm not sure how well Revak would do at this kind of fight, so I have placed him under Nerzizza's lead.
Early estimates are a bit sketchy, they're travelling in a few close clumps, so it is difficult to track the individual subspace wakes. We estimate they've emptied out most of their combat force, possibly using the Dylaarians to cover them. I'll report more as I have it.
Ah, it never rains but it pours!

All crew is lost - ship disabled.
Well that was less than ideal. War with the Licori seems inevitable, and another major battle right on the heels of the first one. I'm wondering if it's worth sending the Kumari for repairs, or keeping her for the battle damaged as she is.
Well, if they actually attack the outpost we might get another decisive battle.
That impossible dream of the short, decisive war will not be reached, but maybe passed by closer than ever.

If Kumari's damages are sufficient that she needs to be towed and cannot proceed under her own power, she shouldn't be retained in a war zone.
@OneirosTheWriter, just seeking confirmation that Kumari can't manage a reasonable cruising speed under her own power at warp, is that right?
Also, while we're at it, is there a particular reason she can go to Vulcan and wait for repairs there, but can't go to Lor'Vela shipyards at Andor and wait there instead? Not that it makes much difference in the grand scheme of things, I suppose.
On the plus side, it looks like we don't need to spare much more than a couple ships and a few observers with the Gaeni and the Ked Paddah ganging up on them.
And another point towards the "The Licori have been harboring imperialistic dreams in secret"-idea.
Another polity is threatening to enter the war - that is currently in a stalemate - on the enemy's side, and they still refuse? Even though the Federation will follow the Gaeni soon? Yeah, I'm not buying their innocent spiel anymore.
[X][REPAIR] "We can bump NCC-1665, a Miranda, from San Fran Berth A."
Best option IMO. Political will isn't candy so I don't want to spend on the Amarki, and we didn't really need this build. We can put it off and come back to it in 2316.
EDIT: Really, it's not worth 20 pp for getting the Kumari back 3 months fast. Think of all the things we can buy with 20pp!
Hell, if you don't want to do this one, then go with waiting for the Voshev to complete. After transit time, you'd only be waiting 6 months. But please, 20pp is an insane amount to pay!
