If I understand correctly, they would basically replace the Oberth and Centaur-A designs altogether, with the only reason to build more Miranda-As would be for their cheap combat stats. Ideally a typical Internal Garrison would be an Excelsior-A or Rennie with two->to how ever many are required to hit Defence requirements Keplars. The Border zones would have some Keplars as well, but would have more Explorers/Cruisers and be where the remaining Miranda-As hang out.
If the Keplar is meant to replace the Centaur-A will we be retiring Centaur-A's as Keplar's are commissioned into the fleet or will the Centaur-A be staying in service for a while?

Staying in service, we still have Constellations and they would get the boost first. We are pretty much going to keep ships in service until we either bump into our combat cap, need them for crew, or they start suffering lots of problems due to age (hence why we no longer have any Soyuz)

I see no reason to get rid of them. Frankly, I don't really want most of our fleet to be Keplars. I would say about 40-50C worth at most. I would prefer to be positioned to fight a war when we have to then to be able to respond to 10% more events.

The Magic 8-Ball says "Answer Unclear - Ask Again Later".

If you want to know what I think, I think the "plan" for the quest is that we're going to fight a big war with the Cardassian Alliance where a lot of our ships get wiped out, and we'll be rebuilding the fleet around whatever is left. Imagine that battle we just had in the Gabriel Expanse, except we have one every couple of months for a couple of years.

On that note, I would like to have our next generation of prototypes completing around when that war is fought, so that our replacements aren't rushed old designs. e: *in an ideal world, which I know would absolutely not happen

Well, I did say ideally. Theory and Reality rarely agree ;)

In practical terms, nobody knows what our fleet and responsibilities will look like by the time the Keplar is out of prototyping.

If we do have a massive drag down fight with the Cardies, if the damage numbers stay similar we are going to bleed crew, but damn are the Cardies going to have a butchers bill.

*looks at the Constitution-B*
The Constitution-B had the tremendous advantage that we were 'allowed' to get it into service very quickly after the project became available, whereas it was inevitable that the Renaissance-class was going to take a lot of time to get started (we'd known since some time last decade that we wouldn't be seeing a wave of Rennies until 2317, now bumped up to 2316 thanks to Patricia Chen's industrial witchcraft).

The ConnieBees plugged a gap that was really, really worrying people back in 2305-6, when we realized that literally nothing in our order of battle was capable of matching a Jaldun in single combat, except for massively expensive Excelsiors. In the event, we were able to delay open war with Cardassia long enough that it looks like our first wave of Rennie construction will be ready in time- probably. But we had no way of knowing that at the time the decision to build a wave of Constitution-Bs was made.

If war had broken out this year over Celos, or over some other incident last year or the year before- or for that matter if war breaks out next year or in 2315... We would have been, or will be, very, very glad we ordered those ConnieBees.

Frankly I'm very glad to have ordered them already. Just imagine how that battle in the Gabriel Expanse would have gone if we had Constellations instead of Constitution-Bs there.

Honestly, if we didn't have the Connie-Bs, I suspect we would have built a lot more Mirinda-As/Centaur-As, not Constellations, to fill the capability gap.

Are we doing a generalist escort or a combat escort and science escort?

And what do we do when it's Patricia Chen's turn for a promotion?

As I'm taking a moment over lunch to look over docs, can I just take a moment to imagine how incredible Utopia Planitia must look at the moment with three Excelsiors building side-by-side?

Well if you include the SF Yard and view all of the Sol construction, there are 4 Explorers, 4 Escorts (2 new, 2 refits) and a Cruiser (Rennie prototype) all taking form. Do any of our competitors have such a dense ship building system?

Then then you have the Human fleets yard as well - what ever is currently growing in it.

2 Mirandas under refit and a Centaur-A under construction for UE so not that much actually.

All told between the 10 member worlds they have 12 ships under construction and 8 under refit

I like to imagine Kahurangi sitting on her porch, sipping tea, and smiling softly knowing that no matter what, she did good.

My mental image is when Stargazer comes home in twenty years. Multiple Ambassadors under construction, a Rennie or even Rennie-A escort, Keplers in the 1mt berths. New combat escorts on the outer screen past the Rennie. Possibly a new garrison cruiser prototyping to stay competitive with other great power changes. Excelsior-B or -C models flitting about might be the only ships anyone aboard recognizes at first glance.

Of course that's just combat ships. They have freighters and cargo ships and passengers ships, etc. being built as well.

When Stargazer comes back, there will be an Enterprise-D. :V

That would mean we've had two ships named Enterprise blow up, which would be sad.
