I'm guessing there's some reference here beyond "Orion Batman?" Are the five eyes supposed to tell me something?
Nothing concrete, just trying to shake up the appearance beyond "bats"; I was going for a more "demonic" look, and having more than 2 eyes, and an odd number of them at that, struck me as a good visual shorthand. I think I semi-consciously drew on the Pathfinder RPG look for the Balor for some visual cues.

Orion Batman is a pretty ambitious omake on its own. I'm not sure the Syndicate can handle a second reference on top of that.
This is not going to be the only one.

Orion Batman is probably going to need to move to Yrillia at this point.
Well, this is back-dated to 2308, so it's well before some of the more "exciting" events of the ASTF escapades.

But maybe Orion Batman will end up with a Yrillian Robin/Nightwing!

How the Licori/Ked Paddah War could go most wrong from our perspective is if the Licori mentats release some kind of horrifying super-weapon that escapes their control in a last ditch effort to spot their empire from being overrun. A weapon we then have to deal with.
Did our cultural package include the history of the biophage war?

There's a large case for prioritization, and I'd rather prioritize our current concerns. Our current members and affiliates (Orions/Apiata/Amarki) and enemies (Cardassia/Sydraxians/Syndicate) rather than new contacts. Heck, even the Romulan-Klingon war that's brewing up is higher priority in my opinion.

We can't stop the Klingons and Romulans from getting into it, but the Ked Paddah are explicitly a reasonable people and the Licori are nuts but we have open channels of communication. I want to head off any von neumann swarms, planet killers, etc at the pass.

More to the point, I have doubts on what we can do to stop this conflict with an Excelsior and diplomats without much else backing it up because Starfleet simply can't spare the resources. We really are stretched thin. I'm having trouble thinking how else the Pacifists could help here besides sending envoys.

Talking isn't likely to hurt us, and it doesn't seem like anything is going to happen unless we try so...

My main reason for supporting the idea comes from looking at nix's map and seeing that if we can get the Ked Paddah and Licori onside along with the Yan-Ros, we will have access to a massive area of space, equal or greater to the GBZ no less, that we can then expand into.

Also, like everyone else, I want to put a leash on the Licori's experiments before they create Biophage 2.0 by accident. Solving their conflict with the Ked Paddah will let us do that since the Licori would then be affiliates.

"Say, what would happen if we add the biophage techno-assimilation to nanomachines?"
"... that - doesn't sound feasible"
"Hah! Challenge accepted!"

Clearly we should make Robin a Yrillian.
And go Full Original Robin. Which means short sleeves, and nothing but the pixie boots and the trunks/briefs! Gotta show off them beautiful Yrillian legs, amiright?

:( Though, I suppose with how often we have to do things like this, ie: diplomacy with the Sydraxians, I suppose that doesn't mean as much as I would hope. I guess I could just be wishing that the council would be a little less passive when it comes to fixing internal or diplomacy based problems, ie: the stuff that's supposed to be their problem.

Yeah the passiveness of the damn council/diplomatic service on the diplomatic front is really bugging me too though I think part of the reasoning behind it is that in Oneirous take on the universe civilian/non military shipping capacity is simply extremely limited which seems to make the simply act of contacting somebody not connected to the "information network" rather difficult.

So if the Excelsior refit passes, the timing is going to work out very nicely. Under current planning we have good reason not to commence any Excelsiors in 2014, meaning that the next Excelsiors we commence could be Excelsior-As.

You see, only two Excelsior berths will be open in 2014. One is the San Francisco berth, and we probably want to keep that open for building the Ambassador prototype. The other is 40 Eridani Berth B, and that only opens in Q3... meaning that we might as well let it stay open until 2315.Q1 so it can synch up with Berth A for dual-Excelsior builds to take advantage of Chen's bonus. We can use all the resources productively by starting six Renaissance cruisers in 2314.

Clearly we should make Robin a Yrillian.

Those beautiful, hairy, Yrillian legs. (Yrillian men explicitly have a lot of body hair.)

Jokes about what Batman Villain Expies would be what Species aside, do folks have any thoughts on the Omake? I hope to try and work through at least a couple more (both for writing exercise in general and because Batman in particular), and I want to do what I can to make good "product" and all that. I had some beta-reading help but the best writing is open to revision. If nothing else, I can clear up questions on things! Unless it's stuff I'll be writing out in later Omakes, I guess, then you'll have to wait!

See, @Briefvoice is picking up what I'm putting down.

Do we have a go-to acrobatic race, though?

A defective Apiatan? Would fit well with the whole orphan thing. Possibly better than actual orphans, since I doubt anyone does the whole orphanage thing.
I would assume that pre-ASTF the common practice in Orion space was to make non-noble/hypercorp CEO orphans into slaves. Because it's a terrible thing and there's a lot of terrible stuff that's happened.

Well if they need ships for diplomatic missions, they could just ask us for some. I'm just sort of annoyed that we apparently need to go bug them to go do their jobs.

It would even be in character for the federation diplomatic service to do so. After all, the Licori would be an affiliate already if they weren't at war with the Ked Paddah and negotiating a peace treaty between them seems to be right up their alley, both responsibility and skill wise.

That the federation council hasn't already asked them to do so seems weird. This conflict has been going on for quite some time after all.

I think the most successful omakes are those that really tie into events in the quest in a concrete way. I know I've had to abandon a few where I realized I was spinning off completely into an original cast of characters that had nothing to do with the quest other than notionally taking place in the Boldly Go universe.

So basically my comment would be, great you've got an Orion vigilante, but it'll work better if it's really tied to things going on in all those 'Master of Orion' posts and to a more Star Trek feel in general.
