Vote will close in an hour's time.

Now, an important question. With regards to the expansion into the GBZ, how much direct control do you guys want? I'm actually considering phasing the Master of Orion posts back to Quarterly, as with the loss of Cardassian support, the defeat of the Celos insurrection, and the massive mandate now handed to the Union government, that's about to become a lot less exciting, and become a lot more working through a process.

Instead, each monthly Captain's Log gets a report out of the GBZ.

My current plan is that you guys pick the staff to run the GBZ, and each quarter they come to you with a series of requests for resources/authorisation, which I'll just tack on to the normal voting turns. Does this suit people?

@OneirosTheWriter if I understand the MWCO correct then this quarter our members and affilates started:
Amarkia- 1 Centaur-A
Humans- 1 Connie-B
Caldonia- 1 Science Cruiser
Qloathi-1 Arquila Leb Hoiathi

Did I miss any?

You'll get the full commencement list in the Shipyard Results post.

Connie-B was Vulcan though, humans started a Centaur. In addition the Apiata started a Stinger, Indoria a Combat Escort (basically Miranda), and the Seyek a Destroyer.

Yes, I like this idea, including the GBZ updates in the monthly captains logs. Though can we have an example of what a GBZ vote would look like?

Also confirmation of how much the Cardassians were helping the syndicate... grrr... lets see if we send Kira to help you become free from the Dominion this time.

Will things really speed up that much for removing the Syndicate? Unless a large part of that 600-ish impact to go was Cardassian resource, which would be awesome, we still have a lot of grinding to do even with the reduced resistance.

Well they lost half of their resilience with the treaty so some of that was it, the other part was when they took over Celos a lot of assets went overt and were no longer hiding so it would be easier to strike at them and this is the second largest Orion world. Also it sounded like the government established was not very nice to say the least and brought memories of a dark time in Orion history up which lost them a good amount of PR.

I think it's more the lack of resources handicapping their ability to strike at us, so there's less for us as players to react to.

Yes, between Celos, legislation, impact, and the arrival of the Amarki Gendarmes, the Syndicate ability to operate has basically ground to a halt.

Which means that for the Syndicate, their worst setback has been the result of things going horribly right in the Celos uprising!

Trying to turn an insurgency campaign into a conventional one is a dangerous play at the best of times. With a conventional power gap on the order of Syndicate vs UFP it's basically suicide.

Wait.... you mean a group that relied on stealth and blending in ran into trouble when they came out into the open?

I'd prefer as little as possible. I don't want to get bogged down in the minutiae of the GBZ. Lets pick the people running the place, give them an overarching aim (claim as much of the GBZ as we can) and then otherwise rely on Starfleet (us) to support them through the Snakepit by expending the political will required to build GBZ colonies/outposts/starbases and enact diplomacy with new found races.

I'm pretty sure we called this a while back.

Isn't Nash also supposed to be smashing their space forces shortly?

Sounds good.

However, a bit more control over FYMs would be nice.

An annual Select EC priorities phase would be nice, with the option to redeploy if something comes up.

The Nadir comes before the Zeniths.

Or in the case of the Syndicate, the Zenith comes before the Nadirs. :p

that's arguable the gendarmes showed up in the first place due their attack on amrki going horribly right, so you could argue their downfall was because they did so well on the WMD attack.

so, the syndicate. how to lose by winning, a case study.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: big symbolic targets are counterproductive to terrorist goals because they demand serious response.

That sounds pretty good to me!

The FBS ought to embed a reporter. Be sure to let us know which Excelsior the Rear Admrial in command puts their flag on.

The man who led the Amarkian response to Syndicate slaving raids in Amarkian Space.
Sector Details

Roughly encompasses area from 4h to 1e, with outcroppings, with space above and below this plane

~15 Squares worth, each of which contains a few dozen stars, of which a quarter will have planets and other items of interest

Each power is accessing the sector from a different direction. Your staff will be attempting to surge out, claim, then retain space. Keeping a safe route for logistics for stations and nascent colonies will be important.

To start with, your commanders will have Starfleet assets and Starfleet auxiliaries. They will begin to ask for other resources, and you will be empowered by Acts of Council to pick and choose who you use to contribute.
