Eh.

No, it's fine. I should probably have taken the hint from the first two or three people to sneer at me today. It was going to be one of those.

I can pack up my plans, omakes, and so on, and go, if it'll make things better.

So all the travel time talk has made me start figuring out how long it actually takes to move the fleet around when we do a fleet redistribution. Mostly it's okay, but moving anything to or from Rigel is a long-ass haul. Like, I'm looking at sending a Constellation there from the CBZ fleet and it takes something like over 4 months to get to Rigel. It's enough to make me consider sending a Constellation to a mid-way sector like Vulcan, and while sending Vulcan's own Constie on to Rigel. That way each ship has only half the transit time.

But on the other hand, maybe that's a level of geekery that's just not worthwhile. What do you think?

From the sidelines, the problem appears to be a certain combination of personalities rather any one person.

Also, @Nix? I get that you're frustrated, but you really should try not to stoop to personal attacks every time you get frustrated. These constant fights aren't your fault any more than SJ's, but you consistently seem to be the one who starts with the insults.

FWIW I've enjoyed your omakes and such. It's okay to step back from the thread for a bit, a few hours to even a day or two to calm down, but please don't just up and leave. I get the sense just about everyone's gotten pretty heated.

I've enjoyed a lot of your work in this thread, I'd hate to see you go. :(

I tried things along those lines, but it's not worthwhile.

If you get it right, no one notices. If you get it wrong, people sneer. If you get it 'wrong,' they sneer harder.

Me? No. Just tired of sneers.

Thanks for the sentiment, though.

I should remind people if you find a particular poster's posts completely intolerable and it causes you distressing fights, the ignore function exists for a reason [just don't tell anyone you're using it]. This thread is big and fast-moving enough you can probably afford to miss a few posts.

Honestly my time in this thread became a lot less stressful when I stepped back from active or regular participation in discussion around votes and mechanics. You should try it as well before giving up.

Also I don't get why people are sneering so much in general, I'm pretty sure I could pull some very wrong in hindsight quotes from just about anyone in the thread :V

That doesn't really work for this thread, considering that maps, canonical omakes, and some other vital information is only visible in user posts.

Worry not, @Simon_Jester: There's still time to the proposed plan to fail spectacularly due to SOE problems and for you to tell us "See, I told you so, but have you listened?"

This puts you in a weird spot psychologically though were you're like, "I HOPE WE FUCK UP AND THE GALAXY BURNS, AND THEN WHEN THE THREAD LOOKS UP AND ASKS 'SAVE US' I'LL POST BACK, 'NO.'"

still waiting for Sousa to backstab us and plunge us into 1000 years of darkness btw

Just be glad when things work out okay, even if it means someone else's plan you thought was dumb managed to work flawlessly! :V

I don't want that to happen.

If half the active participants think I'm clearly too stupid to play the game, what's the point of finding a lower-stress way to play the same game? I'm still cluttering the place up with my stupidity, cluelessness, laziness, and inability to contribute things of value.

I don't recall anyone ever sneering at me, though maybe I'm either too dense to notice or am good at forgetting things like that shortly after they happen. It helps that I have been trying to be better about just letting other people get the last word occasionally.

As for your emergency deployment plans, they look fine, but I think that frankly, @OneirosTheWriter may end up doing movements differently the next time we're prepping for war. As with the recent Precipice vote, he'll likely give us options to choose from rather than open-ended "where do you want to send the fleets". That seems to make it easier for more voters to participate. Indeed, the person your plan ends up being the most useful for may be Oneiros himself, as he plots out what options would be reasonable to give us!

I don't think I ever stooped to a personal attack. If you think otherwise could you point out where and suggest alternative wordings that would get the point across just as clearly? In fact I deliberately rephrased some things to make it clear that they were about behavior and actions in this thread rather than about the person, and I have consistently used wordings like "refuse to do" rather than "incapable of doing", with the sole exception of things like inferences about the current(!) state of mind like "seem to be under the misconception that" above. I don't think that constitutes either a personal attack or an insult? Nor do I think calling something a painfully terrible argument or acurately describing related personal experience is.

Posting this in the thread rather than a PM because it's replying to something in the thread and because everyone else is more than welcome to give pointers on how to get myself sufficiently clearly across while avoiding whatever you consider either personal attacks or insults as well, but that definitely should happen in PMs.

You are not stupid, clueless, lazy, or unable to provide valuable contributions. Anyone who tries to say you are any of those things can answer to me.

...That you think so makes me seriously consider putting the plan back after I pulled it. Thank you.

STOP!

I advise everyone to go look at some funny cat videos and then come back to the thread. Trust me, everything will go alot better afterwards.

There's a certain line of investment in a quest that becomes a bad time.

That line's different for everyone, but it tends to be around the point where discussions and other parts of the quest cause you more than minor real life stress.

I dunno. Personally I'm fine with everything, except the sneers. If the sneers are to be believed, I shouldn't be doing this. If they're not, I'm fine.

But some days I seem to collect sneers.

[shrugs]

Some days you make faulty arguments, then compund on then by being increasingly melodramatic, like you're doing right now.

Honest question, and I mean it for reflection so don't feel you have to respond: do you think this is helping steer the thread away from drama and back to shitposting about the Rock Whisperer?

Because I'd like to get back to posting about the Rock Whisperer please.
