Seeing arcs on the diagram is very cool.

Edit: Also pleasantly surprised we got an aux slot at all, I'm leaning cargo bay. With a transporter we'd be able to rescue many trapped personnel though the tractor beam would definitely be better for moving navigational hazards.

Shame, I guess going for the recessed deflector meant we lacked the space for a sensor suite strong enough to matter against cloakers.

Sensors still is good, it gives the Soyuz something to do when not at war.

Although the cargo bay would also be useful for non-combat

Cargo. It needs it for longer deployments.

Given we got some crew bonus comfort for skipping the aft phasers we can ensure this ship's long term prospects better by maximizing its military fleet utility. Even when Type 2 phasers and shields hit this will still have great firepower and defense just due to how we built her, letting us slack on military in favor of other stats for the next-gen workhorse cruiser since this can cover that role.

[ ] Cargo Bay (+1 Cargo)

As much as I would really like the sensors and talked about them before if they could be useful against cloaks, they're called "useless militarily." Don't try to jam that much of a non-military role into this now when we've already cut so much else of what we could have done for that to make it a pure warship, and it could really use the longer range the cargo bay is said to provide.

If these sensors were useful against cloaking then it would be an easy pick
but the post states they are useless militarily so they are a no go for me.

Alright, onto auxiliary systems.

[ ] Tractor Beam (+1 Engineering)
[ ] Cargo Bay (+1 Cargo)
[ ] Sensor Suite (+1 Science, Capability: Survey)

While the tractor beam is tempting and I think I'd be okay with its inclusion, we've been talking about a small, high-priority cargo delivery vessel for a little while now. With how nimble and quick this thing is likely to be, I think the Soyuz might make for an effective courier vessel. The sensor suite, as has been noted, won't give us enough of an edge to defeat cloaks, but act as another use-case for when something like a Curiosity isn't around. Decisions, decisions.

At this moment, I think I'll be voting for either the tractor beam or the cargo bay. Whatever else, I think this ship has a bright future ahead as an internal courier vessel once we rotate it out of active military service.

I love the inclusion of the ships firing arcs into the drawing it looks really nice!

I think the cargo bay is the most sensible option here tbh.

We aren't quite at the point where sensors can detect cloaked ships, that's sort of the white whale of Federation science for centuries.

Cargo bay seems the most useful, our future campaigns are likely gonna take us far beyond any place we've been before and any less burden on the big ships they're escorting will increase the range of the fleets.

If the sensors hadn't been militarily useless, they'd a great pick.

As is, supplies for longer deployments or, as needed, use as a high value courier? Yeah, Cargo all the way.

And the no aft phasers means more crew comfort - this would synergise with the longer deployment utility from the cargo bay! And a nice compensation for the lower tactical versatility.

Minimal survey functionally is not worth the opportunity costs of either of the other two functions which are both useful from a combat perspective.

Salvage and rescue operations, outside of post-combat situations are probably better served by ships with med bays and labs.

I think a minimal cargo bay would be best, so it can transport stuff on regular patrols between systems or be available for emergency transports, and supporting longer deployments would greater strategic flexibility.

Additionally, if we make a Skate II that can't carry enough antimatter for an extended deployment, there would be synergy there.

And if any of the three options here might lend themselves to 'crew comfort', it would be cargo - though that does feel like a bit of a stretch.

Like basically everyone said, would the sensors allow a chance to detect cloaked vessels the choice would have been a no brainer. Since they do not, I am not sure here. The "civilian" sensors would give the ship an additional role, but we do have ships which are far better suited to it. Tractor beam could be nice, but I think I would currently go with cargo, not only should it somewhat add to range if needed by adding extra supplies, I can also see a use for a fast and well armed courier ship.

We already have a dedicated survey ship and the absolutely god damn chonker of a Sagarmatha-class battlecruiser/explorer to do sensor stuff with.

Either tractor beam or cargo. I say cargo for the moment.

I could swear if your tractor is strong enough you could tow anything you could fit in your warp bubble. Otherwise the tractor beam seems like it'd do in-system towing and be helpful for containing debris from fights if they were on a course to damage space or ground based infrastructure. If these are seen primarily as defenders around our own planets I could imagine this option edging out the cargo bay.

If we're using this to support patrolling, scouting, or pushing into enemy space the cargo bay would have my vote.

The tractor beam and cargo bay aren't good enough at what they do to add an additional capability, only sensors can do that. So unless we want these beauties to sit in their stations until the diplomats screw up keeping us out of war, we should equip them with sensors.
