From what I understand, at this point the Vulcans are more like a friendly accquaintance than a firm ally or a protector. They're on good terms and have provided advice and some technical assistance in the past, but I don't think there's a formal treaty or anything like that. In short, if a Vulcan ship happens to be around if Sol comes under attack, they might help if able, but we definitely shouldn't count on that as part of our defensive strategy.
From what I remember the Vulcans basically said "Okay we'll do out best to keep these handful of systems clear of pirates and stuff for you to colonize and explore, but if you go outside you're on your own."

Basically setting up an area for humanity to develop enough to be able to survive the larger galaxy.

That would be fine if they kept their word. But the lack of intervention when earth was attacked directly(Hasn't happened yet obviously so in character I guess earth is probably fairly trusting of them) shows that it's not something to trust.

I'm personally ok with making refits for this in the future. It can serve as a good system defense boat when bigger, better ships start coming by. Imagine how much harm the various border worlds/colonies would be saved from if they had a dedicated system defender

Earth was attacked by peer or greater powers to Vulcan, though (The Klingon Empire and *The Xindi*), which Vulcan couldn't really do much about.

I am interested how the Vulcans would react to the SDBs first true ship beyond very slow cargo haulers being a dedicated combat ship.,

[X] UEF Intrepid, for the spirit that this first major step past Warp 3 signifies.

Not a fan of animal names and Intrepid is a good name with a long history and a bright future.

Cruise is Warp 2.2 or 10.65c going with the cruise option would have brought it up to 13.82c. Sprinting is 39.3c

Probably more than a little worried, since the Vulcans have claimed Humans are the closest to them before they went full in on logic. And Vulcans were extremely warlike in their past, that's how they almost destroyed themselves and required the just motioned culture of logic.

If Vulcans are as logical as they say then they will understand the reasons for it. Space isnt a safe space, and piracy is one hell of a problem.

Protecting commerce and our own people is as important as scientific exploration.

I mean... the Andorians apparently could.

They also are a) very combat friendly and b) motivated to poke at the Vulcans eye.

and c) also had the minor advantage of not being terrified of the Expanse. (I would argue that Vulcan's help to Earth was largely information and assistance in rebuilding, less so in military help. Whether or not that's useful to Earth is .. well, debatable!)

I'd rather save Daedelus for a science ship.

In a theoretical large-scale many-ship battle, these could operate in pairs and fly dorsal-dorsal to minimize flanking opportunities. It'd take a fair bit of training and coordination, but it'd be doable. Not that I'd expect such a situation to be common enough to train for at this stage.

For fun reference, by mass this ship is roughly two BB Yamatos, so it's not trivial.

This ended up such a martially focused ship that calling it from an animal known for its sting seems appropriate. It even has to rapidly position itself to land its best sting.
