A pirate responder is not feasible at such low warp velocities. All this choice will determine is if we can have long skinny(increased cruise) safe zones due to patrols or shorter and wider ones(increased max warp).

Given the role for this vessel, I think a faster sprint in a chase may be worth it. We aren't intending to operate these tremendously far from Earth.

If we had speeds that would actually matter, I'd go for a sprinter, because if we had speeds that would actually matter, we'd also likely have weapons that could do a damn thing.
[edit]Well, unless it just in system, then sprinting would still be viable. But, I got the impression that this is a patrol boat, more than an interceptor.

I guess the boomers are probably just shipping in between the human colonies, at this point in time, longer distances may not be feasible IDK.

At our tech, we're going to have a horrendous cruise preformance, no matter what. Given that we're making what is essentially a patrol craft, I'd say she'll get more out of sprint preformance for responding to things that crop up in local space.
