I think they mean in regards to covering the aft firing arc specifically. But we have the hopefully better atomic torpedoes, which I think makes up for not having an aft launcher.

I see nothing wrongI think you have the uncorrected numbers in your vote. You should probably change that.
If I'm reading the QM's firing arc diagram right, it already seems to have pretty good aft coverage on the dorsal, and alright coverage on the ventral.I think they mean in regards to covering the aft firing arc specifically.
We mass more than the canon version with the same engines. As Agile as she is, she'll not be as Agile as the canon version and we took out the rear launcher. Plus one of the extra rear arc ones can also shoot forward.[X] Six Phase Cannons (Industry 29 -> 41) (Average Damage: 3.75)
That's the minimum, but I think it's going to be good enough with our manoeuvrability choice to ensure it can use its frontal arc.
But we have the hopefully better atomic torpedoes, which I think makes up for not having an aft launcher.
So we have a problem. Our NX-class is very much heavier and bigger while using the same impulse engines as canon. This means she is slower and less maneuverable than canon. Yes we improved the Phase cannons to make the Spatial Torpedoes useless and then made the Atomic Torpedoes, but you know what? We still have the lack of said torpedoes aft.But we have the hopefully better atomic torpedoes, which I think makes up for not having an aft launcher.
We want this ship to be a significantly better combatant than its canonical counterpart, or it feels like a bit of a waste of time to have altered the design at all. Especially as these ships will serve as flagships for Earth in the coming war.
(Where all-around weapons coverage is especially important when facing cloaked ships, I'd note.)
That's all true but so far people are voting for the 6 or 8 Phase Cannon options, the canon NX-Class only had 3 so no matter which of those two win it will be better armed in the aft. Yes no torpedoes in the aft sucks, but I think the increased cannons make up for it either way. That's why I voted for only 6.So we have a problem. Yes we improved the Phase cannons to make the Spatial Torpedoes useless and then made the Atomic Torpedoes, but you know what? We still have the lack of said torpedoes aft.
Your argument to counter said concerns is the Following: "Our forward torpedoes are better so that counts."
I fail to see how better forward torpedoes balance out with no aft torpedoes and a slower, bigger ship?
It would already be better than the canon NX-01 with six phase cannons, since that only had three to start with.We want this ship to be a significantly better combatant than its canonical counterpart, or it feels like a bit of a waste of time to have altered the design at all. Especially as these ships will serve as flagships for Earth in the coming war.

Because I think our aft quadrant would be covered well enough by choosing six phase cannons, and I'm still not sure the atomics will be that much of a paradigm shift from the spatials to have warranted an aft launcher. So we have a problem.
