From assuming its vaguely like... may be a high risk high reward thing in our witchresarch. Like, say, your trying to find a cure for a Zombieplague and then hear about an Umbrella facility? Do you go there? May hold very usefull stuff, but also insane dangers, for you and the world.

There is nothing there in the source material but a gang of complete nutjobs (and this is by MEGUCA standards. They are crazy by MEGUCA standards), a freezer of witches waiting to happen (That exploded into walpurgis's little sister in the series), crazy people that aren't megucas but turn into pseudo-witches anyway in the middle of the street thanks to mad science, and the occasional feral lunatic just for variety.

Oh, and everyone who enters the city gets mind-whammied by an especially bullshit aoe spell.

It really is meguca Ravenholm.

You forgot the inconsistent characterisation, 14 year olds prancing in outfits that wouldn't seem out of place in a stripper bar, and the average IQ of everyone in that city being about 60, and that's including Kyubey.

Can we just treat Asunaro like fucking Ravenholm and do everything possible to avoid it?

"We don't go to Asunaro."
Now I'm imagining that at some point we trust Mami with all our metaknowledge and start giving her a sort of tour of the things we know:
"Now we can't let Kyubey know that Homu's a time traveler 'cause then he'll break her like a twig, we should try to keep Madoka from making that wish that eventually leads to Homura becoming Satan, Sayaka can never become a magical girl because she is doomed to despair and failure..."
"And what about this 'Asunaro' I see in your notes?"
"We don't go to Asunaro"
Now I want to see Alyx and Boromir having adventures together.
It would just be a procession of them refusing to go places, like:
Alyx: "And that's Ravenholm. We don't go to Ravenholm."
Boromir: "agreed. Sounds dangerous."
Alyx: "So what's this 'Mordor' place you were talking about?"
Boromir: "One does not simply walk into Mordor."
Alyx: "Really? Good to know, thanks."

This alone is worth investigating to Sabrinas SCIENCE side.
However the one thing i do remeber about Kazumi is that it contained one attempt to turn a witch back, which somehow was based i think on trying to build a human body out of her corpse, and while it didnt really work, it was interesting enough, with the result apparently being in theory capable of contracting.

Yes, its insane, but SCIENCE is there, run by lunatics that will kill themselves and everyone else. Like umbrella. Or cerberus. I think my comparision holds.

We should at least finagle a way to get Oriko to look at it.

We shouldn't just ignore it.

I guess I'm having a hard time reconciling the need to involve ourselves in the Sendai conflict, but completely ignore another potential problem because we really don't like them.

@Ugolino and @Cannongerbil
You forgot to mention the only time in the 'verse we've ever seen anybody turn a Witch back into a person. Just sayin'.

I was trying to repress those memories. Thanks. :(
Preachin' to the choir, brother. I had to reread portions of it to get that summary right.

I could have devoted those brain cells to learning a new language, or the winning lottery number. They now contain a fourteen-year-old's cameltoe. Now that I have conveyed this information, I will attempt to kill them with booze.

...though asking Oriko would be okay, if only to assuage our conscience.

Massive Dynamic is what you're looking for there. Or Black Mesa. Or Aperture Science. Mostly the latter two.

In all seriousness, the killer here is the supposed mindwhammy AOE. If that's... not that bad, or Firn removes it from continuity, then I say exploring Ravenholme is a stupid idea that would be epic quest material. I trust Firn to rewrite the entirety of everything if he needs to.

Except that "we sent Akiko off to die" is not going to help long-term peace be a thing.

The issue there becomes that we have better things to do. So, so many better things.

Mend bridges with Kyoko, help Mami however we can, grief seed research, getting stable positive working relationships with Sendai and the other participants, spread word and cleansing routes, Masami, be big sis for Nagisa, keep Sayaka and Madoka safe, help the Homu, even MAKE A GRIEF CAKE or something.

Oriko may be our key here. We just need to constantly ask wether were about to die or about to destroy the world. Unless the stupid shroud blocks her too, but then id be wary about ever going there, if we have no way of seeing whats inside.

We could also think about engineering for someone to wish to clean up the mess, if its the only way.

You know, so far as coming up with excuses to say away from there as long as we can, we do have a lot on our to-do list. Our grief science is extremely important to finding a non-Madoka solution to the system, repairing relations with Kyoko is important to helping Mami's psyche...

We have a lot of things we could spend time on to excuse staying out of there until we have to, for whatever reason.

You do know that we're probably not gonna take the time to do any of those things and just run fill tilt at whatever the next "Sendai" is, right? :p

Thank you very much, but no. After this chapter done, I want some breather. Maybe getting ganged by Mami and Oriko how to prepare and treat tea. Or Kirika teach us how to stab people while stay adorable. Or make our bonds with the gang become stronger, so less limpat Mami. Or anything slice-of-life without being literal, really.

Neither of you are wrong. I'm just saying that I can totally imagine a super creepy story arc with horror-game type situations. It'd be hella terrifying to play and hella fun to read.

Look at me still talking while there's science to do...

Inb4 They come to us instead of the other way around.

But yes, I think hanging with Kirika would be nicer.

Edit: This just something but if I recall. If the Soujos(?) Didn't lose to the Saints, weren't they supposed to be en route to Mitakihara somehow?

Must be nothing.
