Season Unending

<+> Take your seat
< > Negotiate a truce
I imagine that the whole 5 conversations at once would be a lot more impressive it wasn't all in our head. *Ba-dum-tish*
Anyway, I'm all for letting Mami have a go at diplomacy. Hopefully she has better luck than we have had at times.

[X] Let Mami try.
-[X] Just try to break some of the ice between them, if you can. Don't take sides just get them to stop snapping at each other.
[X] Once she's done:
-[X] Rin, why did you need to pay Fukishima? Just for their involvement in the war, or for something else? Is there anyone else you owe payment to? I'm willing to offer my services to them as well if it puts an end to your need for additional grief seeds from Hamasaki. Is there any reason that an effectively unlimited amount of cleanings wouldn't satisfy any needs you were hoping to fulfill from this war?
[X] Chouko, would you be willing to cease hostilities with Sendai on the condition that they do the same for you, and I provide the cleanings? Yes, what they did was wrong, but this way it can be over without any more fighting.

DiploMumi goooo!

Some stuff:

-Akiko may be looking to contact a sensor type meguca, to counter Sabrina's grief sense. It would make sense, what with her testing Sabrina's range.
-Akiko's likely abusing her abundance of grief seeds to keep her gem shiny at all times, since corruption=ammunition. If she needs to get close to us, we should check if she's carrying any grief seeds at all.

-The most hopeful way I see this could end with Akiko alive is that she's very, very... VERY heavily in denial and we can get her to admit that she's in the wrong. It isn't wrong to hope, right?
-The worst way I see this could end with Akiko alive is we confront her and abuse our grief powers to bind her and knock her around until she agrees to stop her bullshit, and then we keep her under 'arrest'. This would play into the philosophy she's hiding behind, seemingly.

As it is, what are trying to accomplish? If we reach an agreement where she stops her 'tax' and other abuses of power, can we actually trust her to follow through? Do we need to restain her or control her somehow?

"They would have died anyway," Akiko rebutts calmly. "If they died, it's because they weren't good enough."

We'll be working with UG in future, so if she chooses to renege on the deal, we'll find out.
Akiko might break the deal anyway if she thinks we won't hold her accountable (hence, full and frank exchange of views once this is over) or are incapable of doing so (maybe a show of force is called for at some point?), but otherwise, no trust necessary.

But then she may simply use Sakura's teleport and our our offered grief cleansing to fuck over some other girls, elsewhere. Or she could just leave and establish herself out of our reach.

There's also the fact that the UG may hold a grudge even if they agree not to. If we get a call saying Akiko's doing her shenanigans again, how do we know it's true and not, say, Rei trying to use us to get back at Akiko?

I guess Oriko could help make sure Akiko doesn't go back on the deal, but only if we don't interact with Akiko a lot. Giving her migraines is fun, but actually a bad thing.

"But them dying because of your 'tax' is OK?" you demand of Akiko. To Rin, you say, "Yeah, it's OK. Are you... alright? Did you know about all... this, before?"

"They would have died anyway," Akiko rebutts calmly. "If they died, it's because they weren't good enough."
Why, hello there Sophia Hess. Didn't expect to see you here.

Should she start messing with another group without the excuse of MOAR GRIF SID, obviously, we kill the Batman Akiko. As for 'out of our reach', what's she going to do, move into a cave on Mars? (This might slow us down for a bit, I guess?)

We'd have to judge any such claim on its specific merits, but ... well, most people aren't evil. (Apart from Akiko, apparently).

Works for me.

Yeah, I still don't get what the stockpile is for. If they have hundreds of seeds lying around, why call us to cleanse their soul gems at all?

It makes no sense, and Rin obviously knows nothing. We need to ask Akiko directly.

I think we should make a specific offer, too. Let's say Sendai wants X seeds a week. If Sendai+UG supplies us with X filled seeds each week, we can restore them. If all they're after is cleansing, then that arrangement can continue as long as we're alive. Obviously they'd be back to the status quo upon our death. Essentially, we'd be bankrolling the UG to live on Sendai's territory.

I think we should make it an explicit offer because the reaction to it will reveal what Akiko is actually after. Refusal means giving reasons, which will show if she wants the UG gone, or if she isn't using the seeds for cleansing, or any number of other things.

After just reading the entirety of the story only thread, some comments:

Poor Kirika is wrong. Mami is definitely not our Ojou. We are probably her Ojou though. :p She's certainly imprinting on us like nothing else. :p

Nice to see if we finally went for the full intimidation route to stop fights. Speaking of which, if nothing else, imposing a "Pax Romana Sabrina" solution might be a viable solution if Sendai's group doesn't respond to nothing else.

Akiko: Little miss warmonger huh? At least she seems sane enough to respond to reason and the carrot and stick approach.

Sendai's Sakura: The fuck's up with her? Girl seems to be a step from going berserk at all times, even if we are offering something to her advantage or even exactly what she wants. Akiko might be a plotting manipulative bitch, but at least one can talk with her.

Combat: Have we considering further uses of our grief wings in combat? Using them as shields for example? What about other grief manipulation, up and including to "transmuting" it into something more usable?

Sakura doesn't like or trust us, but she's not the ringleader and has her affection for Rin as a redeeming factor/something we can use.

Grief wing shields have been shown to work well on witches and there's no reason we can't transmute them as needed. Complete control over grief after all.

[q] "Oh Akiko, what would your parents think if they saw you right now? I honestly think they would be proud: You have taken six girls away from their parents. For a couple that spawned one such as you, that must be the greatest kindness that could ever be known."

We do use them as shields, they also cut through concrete and steel like nothing else.

I've been thinking maybe we can grief-transmutate something, transform it and then will it to detransmutate and see what happens. Example: Create grief cheese, feed it to Nagisa a mouse and undo the cheese.

Oh, and one more thing: Have we considered answering that the payment we get from cleansing soul gems is the grief we can use? I mean, it makes us sound less saintly, and we are not doing because we can use the grief, but it should possibly make other Meguca less suspicious of our motives. It would include informing them we can use the grief though, which might be inadvisable, but I feel this cat is already out of the bag anyway.
