One is plenty- that's a full cleanse if we get magic-killed at a bad time and eat a marble or two of grief. If we stay in magic-neutralization range for longer with a grief cloud out, we don't deserve to live. :p

You shrug indifferently as the Incubator scampers up to you. "It was more efficient than walking across the bridge," you say drily. The thought of finding out what an Incubator tastes like briefly crosses your mind, but you dismiss the thought as probably a bad idea.

"However, measures had to be taken to avoid the existence of magic from being revealed," Kyuubey notes.

"That," you say with a ghost of satisfaction, "is your concern, Kyuubey."

Heh. QB only cares about negative externalities when he has to deal with them. :)

Random thing that doesn't cost us anything to do and that we probably want to try just to be safe: remove the grief from our gem, then put a grief seed next to it to make sure it's actually clean.

While this is shadowruns and extremely unlikely to be the case, in the Series That Shall Not be Named (Kazumi Magica) there was an "Incubator" that had grief cleansing abilities that seemed to be a lot like Sabrina's. That ended badly. While Firn probably isn't drawing inspiration from that, we want to check as a free action at some point. :p

Juubey couldn't actually clean gems. He could "polish" gems, which made them appear clean and seemed to suppress negative emotions. He couldn't remove Grief buildup, and even polishing them caused his body to break down eventually.

So, yes, second-worst spinoff remains somewhere between "useless" and "fucking useless."

Hence my concern/shadowruns. :D

EDIT: Second worst?

I'm not elaborating.

[x] "Is that all her Wish did, Kyubey? She seemed a bit...intense. Did contracting do anything to her mental state?"
[x] Ask about the west side girl. What's her name? Magic? Has she met Oriko in the past few days?
[x] Ask him what he meant by our soul being 'unusual.'
[x] Find a payphone or something, call Nagisa's uncle. Or go to borrow Mami's cell phone.
[x] Go and visit Nagisa unless we're really short on time.

You know how Firn kept saying that he wasn't going to fuck us over on our wish? I'm pretty sure us doing fake cleanses is considered fucking us over on our wish.

"Kure Kirika's Wish gave her the ability to negate directed magic within her range at will," Kyuubey states. "This ability is not unprecendented," it notes helpfully.

I'd ask about the range limit of this ability as well. Limits? Well, Kirika can negate directed magic but that doesn't say anything about grief. In theory that should mean we'd temporarily lose control of the grief we're wielding. Not that it would disappear. Also the 'at will' part is suspect, I'd imagine Kirika would have difficulty shutting down short bursts of magic (For Sabrina for instance, propelling grief in a single direction would be fast and effortless)

Also, her power sounds absolutely useless against witches. All around, it sounds like Oriko and Kirika would have trouble fighting them this time around... So why go out of their way to antagonize the girl who could cleanse their gems indefinitely?

Useless? Or a complete shutdown? Sure she couldn't rip them apart at a fundamental level the way Sabrina can, but Witches still use magic to attack even if they're made of grief. Stuff like Oktavia wheels, magic clones, and anything that isn't "Witch physically attacks you" might qualify for "magic".

And even if so..."Oriko" is all the reason they need for their wacky schemes. That or we accidentally the planet in the future or something.

The "not really cleansing" shadowruns is unlikely, but it can't hurt to make sure.

It seems like Kirika got a hard counter to our ability. If she can negate weapon powers she could take on Mami as well. She'd get stomped by Homura though. Can't antimagic boolit. Oriko's unknown ability could be a Homura counter, then.

Ah. Welp, I didn't read the post well enough. I thought it said she had another ability as well, my bad.

Okay so we're checking up on Nagisa and then afterwards rush, rush, rush to the hospital?

I hope we've thought of something a bit more substantial to say to her. Like say, plans to visit her. Today, tomorrow or otherwise.

edit: reading the vote... there's definitely a time conflict here. If we're going to the hospital, we're probably not going to have time to visit Momoe.

Depending on the time, rush to school or hospital. That works, and honestly, there's room there to improvise as we go along- but the biggest problem is still Kyubey going after her- depending on if she heard the warning/her potential changed again or not.

EDIT: In that case, Momoe first, then meet up with Mami and company.

Entanglement pt. 33
"And is that all her Wish did?" you ask. "She seems more than a little off-kilter. Her Wish?"

"Indeed it is not," Kyuubey answers, tail lashing violently. "As you appear to be well informed of, Wishes can have a direct effect in addition to granting abilities. I shall not go into detail, but her Wish did indeed affect her mental state."

"For the better or the worse?" you say.

"I shall not go into detail," Kyuubey repeats in the same monotone.

You snort. Figures. "Fine. Tell me about the magical girl on the west side, then."

"Masami Gaikotsu?" Kyuubey asks, tilting its head. "She is still active, although currently rather reclusive, and actively goes out of her way to avoid other magical girls. She's a powerful telekinetic."

"Huh. Telekinesis," you mutter thoughtfully. "Has Oriko approached her?"

Kyuubey tilts its head in the other direction. "I do not give detailed information on the movements of magical girls to each other."

"Fine, fine," you grumble. "So, then. What did you mean by my soul being unusual?"

"You appear to have a level of karma disproportionate to your experiences," Kyuubey states. "Before you ask, I do not know what your life's experiences are. It is analogous to seeing that a road is worn and inferring that many people have passed by, but not who those people were," it adds helpfully, making you grimace.

You sigh. "Fine then. I don't think there's anything els- oh, wait. Here." You pop the Grief marble, still idly orbiting Kyuubey, into the air, and the little alien leaps to catch the falling marble into its back slot. By the time it's caught the marble, you're already at the edge of the roof, tensing your legs to jump for the next roof.

Next up on your list of things to do, you feel, is to try and find a payphone, so that you can call Nagisa. You'd promised to visit, after all, and so you let yourself plummet to the ground in an alley way, and walk out of it after dusting yourself off.

And so you wander around on foot, looking for a pay phone. You even try asking a few of the less busy-looking passersby, and you simply get blank stares. "Miss, I haven't seen a pay phone in... maybe five years?" one older man informs you. "I don't mean to be rude... but if you're from overseas, you could purchase a prepaid SIM card for temporary use?"

"Ah, thank you," you say, dipping your head politely to him. The future: surprisingly inconvenient, you grumble to yourself. Finally, you give it up as a bad job, and, after looking at the time, and figuring that school should be just over, you decide to go and look for Mami to borrow her handphone. "Mami?"

"Sabrina!" Mami replies brightly. "Where are you? We're headed to the hospital right now, would you like to come along?"
