I just looked at the front page for the thread.

I feel slightly betrayed.

Witches can control the entrance to their own barrier, that's how they prey on humans. Magic is needed to force entry.
....

Yeah, well... you can.. be quiet with your... logic.

(I knew this. I fucking knew this was a thing they could do. How did I forget this?!)

Uh? Betrayed?

Also, it could be worse, honestly. Forgetting your phone it's in your handv so you start searching for it, and then thinking "I know! i'll call it with my phone!"

I still believe we need to give these therapists a clear seed for any emergency cleansings that need to happen, or we need to be there as well. Something to tell the Shizuki's with the next vote?
We do need to give therapists the tools to therapise meguca, but there's no point discussing the fine details of that with the Shizukis.

And if anyone is going to be our dad, it'll be Shin, since Nagisa already adopted us as a sister.

I wrote a story on Christmas. There's no link to it on the front page. Hence the sense of betrayal. (Sorry If I sound like I'm just bitching.)

Also... Has that...actually happened?

Oooohh, I see. Just give it some time, they'll come around.

Yes. Multiple times, even. My attention span can flicker from "elephant" to "fly" incredibly fast.

Sabrina should look up Maeba Holdings next time she's on a computer, so she can get a better feel for the company and what resources she can access through them, although it's looking likely that any help is going to be limited to the Shizuki's personal resources rather than their corporate ones in the short term. (Long term we can probably just buy them out with stolen Yakuza gold).

"Of course," Ichiro says. He gives you a considering look. "Well... I can't commit to anything, other than an offer to keep an eye out and the standing offer to help make introductions? And possibly guidance on organizing and human resource management, if you need that."

Sabrina should follow up on this. If Sabrina wants to run Constellation as a business then some form of management training would go a long way, if not for herself (because that might be boring from a storytelling point of view) then definitely for the others.

"My point is that I'm telling you this because you deserve to know. Everyone in this city deserves to know," you say. "And I would be shouting it from the rooftops if I thought it would work. But I don't know how far Kyuubey's permissivity will stretch before it starts clamping down. So... yeah."

"I see," Ichiro says.

"Papa..." Hitomi says, sipping calmly at her cup of tea. "You should already know she's not like that by now." The look she shoots you over the rim of her cup is nothing less than smug. "What you see is what you get."

"I know, sweetheart," Ichiro says.

"... hey," you say. You vaguely feel like you should be insulted, but you're also pretty sure Hitomi was defending you.

Not sure I entirely understand what happened here. Then again I'm terrible at interpreting 'meaningful looks', both in fiction and real life.

Hm. Speculation, but it is probably possible for trained humans to enter a barrier and retain their wits, but that is presuming they get assistance to locate entrances (else the odds are stacked against them finding it).

And even if they enter, odds are poor on being able to effectively kill the witch. Especially given familiars, and strongly variable depending on the level of control of the barrier the witch has.

Though I figure their AARs would read more like SCP MTF or GOC ST reports than XCOM (ie a lot of most definitely lethal readings on the weird-shit-o-meter, rather than brief bursts of terror interspersed with witchy activity).

Also an issue of scale. You'd need at least a full SWAT team equiv per girl.

Humans hunting witches would look like Old XCOM, with big teams and lots of casualties. You'd need a lot of machine guns to stop the swarming familiars from getting in close, and then rockets to kill the Witch. The lack of support options would be the big problem since Witch barriers nullify air/arty support and driving a tank into one is probably impossible, so everything needs to be man-portable and mortars are impractical.

Retreat would also not be an option since I'm pretty sure there's no way out of a barrier without magic.

Yeah, replacing losses would render the problem impractical in the short term - you not only need sufficient number of trained operators, you need to be able to replace them, frequently.

Though, I think retaining magical girls in the loop to serve as sensors and entry/exit points.

"It hit Ritsuko hard, back then," Haruka says, her voice cold and pained. "Hit us hard. We had no idea."
Um, can I draw people's attention to this edit from the last post? Cause this implied that Mrs Shizuki and Ritsuko found out about the Lichbomb, and that Mrs Shizuki later forgot about it, cause she didn't seem to remember that detail when we first told her. See:
"The term Soul Gem is unfortunately literal," you say crisply. You cover Mami's hand with yours, trying to convey as much reassurance as you can. "Kyuubey is a disingenuous obfuscator who does not tell prospective magical girls about that."

Mrs Shizuki's eyes go wide, hand rising to cover her mouth. "I- I see. I-" she swallows. "I see. So all of you..."
Either this is an error by @Firnagzen, or we need to ask Mrs Haruka about it. Additionally;
"She may not have known, the entire time you knew her," you say. "The Incubator actively suppresses information. All the better to sucker young girls into this." You close your eyes briefly. "As young as eight."
This is a weird reply for us to make to the implicit statement that Ritsuko was lichbomb'd. Firm, pls fix.

Mami ducks her head, embarrassed - but there's a pleased smile on her face to complement the blush. "Um... maybe the lava cake? I don't know how to make that."

"Sounds good to me," you say. "We can share!"
The waiter is summoned to bring the menus back, and you inspect it before deciding on a caramel lava cake to share with Mami.

Sabrina: Noted fan of lava cake and specifically sharing that lava cake with her girlfriend.

It might be awkward to bring up now but next time we meet with Hitomi's parents we should fill them in on the whole waking up in an alley with no memories, probably being an artificial person thing. It provides context for our situation and even if I can't immediately think of relevant situations context can help people make better decisions on our behalf when necessary.
