Actually, fuck - how much magic do we think she spent there? I remember someone saying that the move she was using was Kazumi's finisher, plus she's probably feeding the memory device, and we can't monitor her grief right now. And her behavior right now - Is she spiraling?

..... I need a panic! option along with like

[] If Hijiri isn't calming down, declare grief spiral, get immediate party reactions, and break to voting.

and suddenly its a medical drama

Sabrina: We have a grief spiral! I NEED 250ccs OF HUGS STAT

edit: actually if we think she's grief spiraling I'm all for just rushing in until we CAN sense her grief levels and cleansing. I really really don't care about anything else at that point since your doing life saving actions.

One day we'll vote to cleanse everyone.

With a hose.

... A Grief hose... that erases Grief...

Maybe in a gathering?

I think it would be fairly hilarious.

Sabrina: "HEADS UP bitches GIRLS!"

*Hoses down two dozen meguca in a deluge of Grief*

Once the surprise attack dies down, the spluttering mob of meguca glare at Sabrina at once and prepares to attack.

"Hey! I just cleansed all your Grief!" protests Sabrina.

Meguca mob: Realize they're sparkling clean, Gems included.

Meguca mob: Ponder internally whether they should beat up Sabrina anyway.

Sabrina smirks. "Hey, no hard feelings, right? I mean, not to rain on your parade, but it's water under the bridge already, right? Just chill- OH SHIT!"

So, ducking under a thrown (blunt) magical knife, Sabrina did what she does best, and went hide behind Mami.

Thus did the glorious 24 meguca vs. Mami Motherfucking Tomoe, Goddess of War and Cakes war begin.

... That's a very small amount of hugs.

Like, even Chibi Brina would be hard pressed to apply that little amount of hugs.

We can apply hugs in... ~50 litres doses, more or less?

Mami: Sabrina
Sabrina: Ok 45 cubic feet! We shall measures hugs based of equivalent encircled volume!
Sayaka: Or we can calm down the panicking girl <She says despite having already pulled the girl into a hug, and is now glaring at Sabrina for being all... brain damaged *this* instant>
Sabrina: Huh... good work?
Sayaka: I just asked myself 'what would Madoka do?'
Homura: ... thats a good plan, I like that plan. *nods*
Hijiri: <Just cries into Sayaka's shoulder or something>
>Later<
Sayaka has acquired a Hijiri limpet!
Sayaka: How do I explain this to mom...

OK so with Hijiri the issue is the memory device is effecting how ability to sense her? Like as we just not being allowed to remember what we detect or something??

I do think the grief clensing and grief spiral contingencies should be at the top of the vote... considering it I think the vote should, considering their is no immediate threat of harm to Sabrina or her friends, do the following in rough order:

  • Ensure safety of Hijiri
  • Establish Hijiri's understanding of events, to ensure we are not making assumptions and that no one fooled Hijiri. IE she thinks we are the bad guys.
  • Collect stolen goods
  • Transfer custody
then we relocate for the actual questioning so likely a vote for that.

.... wait she's panicking, she wants to be alone... could she know she could turn into a witch? No she pleads to be left alone and offers to do/give anything while be described and frightened and desperate and this after she did a single shot at us before running as fast as she could away from us. I'm leaning that what she understands and what Sabrina understands are going to be different.

@Redshirt Army @Vebyast @Karnewarrior

If the memory field is keeping us from getting close to Hijiri or cleansing her, why not have Sayaka shut it down with a targeted anti-magic pulse? That would also remove any mindhax that might be on her (in the slim chance that she's not acting like this of her own volition) and keep her from using her own powers against us for the duration.

[X] Act professionally and respectfully towards Hijiri
-[X] Check her for clear seeds and remove the memory device and any seeds we find.
-[X] Cleanse Hijiri. Have Sayaka use her antimagic if necessary.
-[X] By the way, we're taking our seed back. If she needs cleanses, we'll provide them.
[X] If we find the clear seed, regroup with the full team sans Oriko and Kirika, who have leave to wander the commercial district for now - No lighting anything on fire this time, however.
[X] If not, continue search pattern for everyone but us, Mami, Saki, and Sayaka.

[X] Good Job Sayaka.

[X] Interrogation
-[X] Ask Kazumi for permission to begin questioning. This is her realm and her criminal - subject to her rules and her punishment.
-[X] In the meantime, try to get Hijiri as calm as possible. Cleanse as needed, with her consent.
-[X] Figure out why, how, and for who Hijiri stole the seed and device.

I felt bad cutting the part about the Pleiades Saints - Mitakihara Quartet Alliance, simply because it's the first time we've given a name to our group and names are important, but it didn't fit.

Added Hijiri cleanses to the vote. Beyond the first one (since Hijiri is probably spiralling), we should get her consent to cleanse. Even if we're probably going to cleanse her anyway, it'll say a lot about how she can expect to be treated.

Removed physical handcuffs. Antimagic will probably result in her running, but whatever.

So, I'm worried about Hijiri witching out right here and now, for two reasons at the core of it. First we have a mentally unstable girl, which implies faster grief buildup, and from what we've learned things have likely just gone very poorly for her for the past hour or so, starting with the people she hit coming back far far sooner than should have been possible expected and culminating in being captured and surrounded, which all indication is that is terrible for her.

So there's plenty of reason for her grief to be spiking hard.

Secondly, our normal information on soul gems seems to be obfuscated if I'm reading the implications of not being able to sense her right.

Which means that if she is imminent to witch and delivering her final lines, we aren't in a position to know.

So, can I make a recommendation to put cleansing Hijiri literally before anything else? (Except, perhaps, telling her to showing us her soul gem to smooth things over in the aftermath of an emergency cleanse.)

Firn doesn't punish like this. As long as prompt cleansing is in the vote we should be fine.

[x] Telepathy the group. Suspect captured. It looks like Hijiri, she's distraught. You'll try to calm her down.
-[x] Acknowledge everyone's good work.
-[x] Sayaka: Good work, and keep it up - she's on overwatch. Antimagic, preparations for AoE, etc.

[x] Simultaneously: Cleanse everyone. Ask Hijiri to lower the memory field so you can help her too.
-[x] Make absolutely certain she isn't grief spiralling.

[x] Be empathetic Sabrina, if confused by her choice of actions. Ditch the witchy feeling.
-[x] Promise Hijiri you won't hurt her. You're here to help everyone, it's all going to turn out okay. Let her calm down. Be careful.
-[x] Ask why she grabbed the stuff. Offer help - better solutions always exist.

[x] Wait for the others to get here, then step aside and allow the Pleiades to take over. Mediate if necessary.
-[x] If Hijiri is cooperating, put in a good word for her.

Still 150 words.

Yeaaaah, I'm starting to think that way myself.

The edit I was about to make was ninja'd, so now it's in Brinapilot's hands. So, next question: If Hijiri is spiralling, what options does Brinapilot have to deal with it? First step is obviously to obtain consent and get her to drop the field so we can being treatment. If that doesn't work, what do we do next?
  • Ask her to check her soul gem. Knowledge that she's in trouble may help her focus.
  • Give her a free arm, a grief seed, and orders to cleanse? No matter how freaked out she is she may still reflexively obey a sufficiently commanding tone of voice. That kind of thing is deeply hard-wired.
  • Ask someone where she keeps her grief seed - or where Niko keeps her grief seed - and tape a grief seed to a stick.

Even so, I think that if witching out in front of us was ever going to happen, it would be in circumstances like these, and it would be urgent enough to not be something we would just solve by pure accident. (Because, let's face it, under normal circumstances I think we're more likely to ruin things by cleansing too early.)

And, while it's not the core of my worries, there is another matter here that I didn't mention: Hijiri's stumbling running and falling can be taken as a symptom of her losing control of her body, as is theorized to be what happens during a witchout. (Can't recall by which persons but IIRC it was an explanation for Homura and Madoka not being able to get up in one of the timeline ends, among other things.)

Firn. Doesn't. Punish. Like. This.

You have to screw up at a fundamental level for Firn to take your vote and go bad places with it. Not this really technical 'gotcha' style stuff like this. Hijiri stumbled because she was running away in a panic and had to keep track of us and Sayaka's platform while still roof hopping at the same time and she stumbled.

Second spiraling barring few exceptions takes considerable time, (not seconds) before it becomes a major threat. Sayaka was spiraling for days in canon and didn't witch.

As I said, as long as prompt cleansing is in the vote, I see little reason to worry.

If there ever was a situation in which a girl could witch out in front of us, it would this one. Normally Sabrina would automatically cleanse any nearly-full gem in her presence, but right now we can't properly sense Hijiri's gem due to the effects of the memory field.

EDIT: Even if she isn't near witching out, a high grief level is going to make her irrational and hard to communicate with.

If Hijiri isn't willing to turn off the field, I think we have to be prepared to have Sayaka use an anti-magic pulse to shut it down for us. It'll also have the advantage of removing any other ongoing magical effects that we might not be aware of.

I'm actually pretty sure she won't take down the field when asked. Remember, spiral or not she's still a hostile. We shouldn't let our benevolence get in the way of our pragmatism.

Just dunk her in our special "Seyiku Anti-Magic Bath" and hold her under until the bubbles stop coming up. We can (and have to) cleanse once the field is down.

Yeah, she might not cooperate right off the bat. But that doesn't mean we don't try, if we have a chance. Magical Girl Classic, remember?

Also, recall that, if we're on a particularly sharp limit, the limit isn't time, it's the integral of negative emotion with respect to time. Even if we can't calm her down enough that she'll take the memory field down, I bet we can spend thirty seconds doing that and come out ahead of blasting her with antimagic without even trying to communicate, simply because she'll be in a better state of mind when we start blasting her.

I wouldn't tolerate leaving her pinned to the wall for ten minutes, but I think that we can stand to spend, you know, ten or fifteen seconds on trying the diplomatic solution.

[Q] Ask Hijiri to turn off the Memory thing and give up and cooperate and return the things and be friends with all of us please?
-[Q] Please please please please please please please please please please please please please please
--[Q] Keep saying please until she relents. That always works, right?

... I totally would like to know what'd happen if we reacted right now by going super cheerful befriend mode. Like, "OH MY GOSH IT'S NICE TO MEET YOU WANNA BE FRIENDS".

Also would like to know what Sayaka's reaction would be to that.
