She managed solo hunting at least twice in canon with a shite power, near zero training, and a trashcan mindset.
What I remember is Sayaka killed a weak witch (H.N. Elly), then had to be bailed by Kyouko in the Elsa Maria fight. If there was another fight in between, forgive me for not remembering it.

Whatever happens, we should depart from this reality somehow. And, uh, fairly quickly, I think. I do think we're being overprotective of her. She's demonstrated that she can handle herself against Kyouko. For most witches, that's waaaay more than enough.
What would be useful, would be to get Sayaka to go hunting with other (not entirely green) rookies, who she could see as being on the same level as her, so she doesn't feel she's being carried through, or allowed to fight instead of someone who could make her efforts meaningless.

........that actually sounds like a really, really good idea.

I kind of think it would be appropriate to have an Ace present on standby as sort of a safety net in case things get bowling-shoe ugly, but if the rookies knew about the Ace's presence then it would be counterproductive, so....

This is the mind of Miki Sayaka.

She wants to be Magical Girl Goddess Gold. She has been saved from death by the Mitakihara group, and feels she owes them her life. Regardless of rationalizations, she believes in absolutes, and feels shame, sorrow, and self-recrimination that her saviors have to do things for her or worry over her, whatever those things may be and no matter the motives for the worrying, because in absolute terms those things and worries, however small, are still things and worries. Her dream is to become someone who is independent and capable of helping others, who does not need to rely on generosity without having what she considers a suitable way to repay it. She made a wish to escape the opposite of her dream, a dystopia where she felt that she would constantly burden the helpfulness of those she looks up to, and saw no way to repay them. Her flaw is her dream itself, for her opposition to the showering of unrepaid assistance upon her by her idols is a source of their worry for her. In canon, Homura Akemi called her a terrible magical girl for being unwilling to take things for herself.

At present, she wants desperately to be able to do the things her idols can do, so they can stop protecting and worrying about her and she can start repaying them. She fears and questions what good her wish was, since it was supposed to affect the world instantly and has instead left her in the same place as she was before, taking assistance from her idols and rendering them little to none in turn. While they assure her that she is growing quickly and will one day be incredibly powerful, this is disturbingly similar in her mind to their assurances before her wish that she shouldn't contract, that she shouldn't feel she owed them, that of course you're useful, Sayaka.

She is stubborn and willful, and resists efforts to change her mind once it is made up. She prefers to evaluate herself based on her own feats rather than the opinions of others, but because she is a headstrong teenager this leaves her with a tendency to moodswings and makes it hard for her friends to exert a positive influence on her self-image without her first accomplishing a new feat.

Because she expresses discontent with how she is now, Sabrina tells her all about how wonderful she will be in the future, but the promises slide off her like rain since they cannot penetrate the armor which is forming from her doubt of her wish. She will gradually become desperate for concrete validation in order to stay afloat.

By the way, next time Sayaka's got training with Kyouko, we should let her go alone, just hand her the payment and away the Sayaka goes.

Of course, this presents a problem, for while Sayaka can carry money and gold, she cannot carry our Grief Control powers; in order to solve this, we should send Sayaka with a Grief Seed to exchange Kyouko for the one she'd be holding at the time. And send this Grief Seed slightly emptier than a normal one, to make up for corrpution accumulating during training.

So basically, the best thing we could do for Sayaka, contrary to the categorical imperative though it is, is treat her as a means sometimes instead of an end?

We could drop her off before and pick her up after and provide cleansing at both times to cover it.

Since the Moratorium has probably expired...

[x] Hand on Sayaka's Shoulder
-[x] Apologize if it seems you're worrying too much for her. That's just you, you worry about everyone. Her, Kyouko, Yuma, Madoka... we worry about Homura a lot, and Mami most of all. We're scared of losing them.
-[x] If she wants something she can do right now, her and Mami's ribbons can conduct your powers but the feeling is intrusive. You want to find out if coiling them can generate a wider area cleansing field. If she gets any ideas in that line or finds powers that might help with that, we would love to know. If she wants to do that experiment with us or see if she can take some of the load off Mami, she's welcome to.

[x] Hug Sayaka.
[x] Whether she believes it or not, she's doing a great job. It's been less than a week and she's already one of the best melee fighters we know. The fight she gave us just now was one of the toughest one-on-one fights we've ever had. The only people we've faced who are better are ones who've been doing this for years. She's so good that we had to hire one of the best melee fighters in the region to have something new to teach her.
[x] She's our friend. She's someone we can trust and rely upon. We worry about her, yeah, not because she's not strong but because we care. We worry about everyone. We worry about Homura, no matter how powerful she is, we worry about Kyouko... Mami's the greatest, but we worry about her the most of all. We're scared, all the time. Scared of losing the people we love. No matter how strong they are. Magical girls, no matter how strong, are all so fragile, deep down. We can't bear to lose anyone. This is the only family we've ever known.
[x] And friendship or not, investment in an asset doesn't make the asset indebted. You fully expect her to repay you in spades without even trying, so she should stop being such a worry wart and let go. She's going to be a senpai here soon, probably, so she better be ready to drop the dismal attitude and lead like we know she can.

We could drop her off before and pick her up after and provide cleansing at both times to cover it.
She can fly on her own. The point is to not hover behind her shoulder when she's out doing something, and truthfully, we are not needed in the Sayakyou practices anymore.

Give her something to do that will genuinely help us, and explain how it does so. The bigger the task the better.
And the more reasonable, too!

I would like to ask Sayaka to practise her Clone power.

There's a few reasons: One is that she might be able to help keep meguca-ing while being at school once she gets good enough. And that would be fun for her, which is a good incentive.

Second, and third, fourth, etc., is the amount of uses that can be given to clones:

With clones, she could actually Solo Witches, given that she could use clones as scouts and make the hunt a lot less dangerous, given that she could face a Witch with a clone, then pick the best possible power available to confront her for real, once the clone fails.

Being in more than one place at once would also help if the incoming megucas need someone to talk about, or guide them around the city.

The cloning ability is the one that most directly synergizes with her melee ability, making the training sessions more useful.

Etc., etc...

So something huge, that really just requires brute force?

Construction: What needs to be done is... mostly clear, but the problem is the heavy lifting.
---Immediate thought: Furnish a warehouse for the needs of incoming refugees. Sure, we might be able to get them apartments through the official routes, but that takes time and while we can use that option when we know people are coming we can't help people who show up unexpectedly.

Hugs would seem overbearing right now, for example. She's not Mami. :p

Like that's stopped the thread from hugging Mami or Homura.:p

Everything we said just seems so far fetched to Sayaka and her self-esteem issues. Honestly think we should have focused on her worth and ability now rather than her worth in the future since that's what she wanted to hear, but what's done is done and the vote did work, kind of.

The thread tried to reassure her, so the basic thought and intentions count. But for the most part, it didn't look the way it was gone about convinced her or helped that much.

I don't think Sayaka would feel very enthused about using her plant powers to grow food, but it would be a thing on the side...

Counterpoint:

Mami is specially susceptible to hugs.

See this time she attempted to reject hugs:
"This... isn't something you can hug away," Mami says. " I-I'm... I'm terrified, Sabrina. For you... at the thought of l-losing y-you..."

...

You try to hug Mami again, and this time, she lets you, sagging against you and staring blindly at nothing in particular. It's not very comfortable, half twisted on the couch like this... but you don't care very much. You stroke her back soothingly, slow rhythmic circles.
She clearly can't resist the Brinahugs. :p

Well, that definitely could have gone better, particularly with the "overselling it" and "I don't believe that" bits. But it did well enough for the time being, I think. We've told her that we have faith in her, reiterated that she'll be one of the greats one day, and that needing to train and practice to match up to veterans is normal.

We didn't address the money issue, which is important, nor did we explain to her that fighting Witches alone is dangerous, even for veterans, and should only be done as a last resort for everyone except for those with super-OP powers and a strong sense of caution. Still, the latter of those points is something we can cover later in the day. With that in mind, would you guys mind adding this part to the beginning of the vote?

[] By the way, you stole all of that money from the Yakuza in a few minutes via timestop. Don't sweat some of it being invested in her--it's totally worth it.

I am going to repeat this every time.

-[] Between the payments we're fronting, the training, the group hunts, the being ferried around on a grief platform... From her point of view, it must feel like nothing's changed, huh? She's still being taken care of, paid for, protected... And we don't see it, because all we see is "Sayaka is going to be incredible once things happen" and "who cares about 90k yen, there's more where that came from."

Sayaka already knows the $ came from the yaks, btw.

WAY too much Gilgamesh for Sayaka :V

The public image, not the private one.

We're short on clear seeds to hand out. Tell Sayaka to practice the clone powers during school hours by hunting down witches. Immediately useful.

Someone a ways back suggested having Sayaka copy Oriko's power. Do it.

Sayaka's looking up to Sabrina as this heroic figure that she can't equal up to. I'm suggesting that we climb down off the pedestal she's put us on. Be human. Be vulnerable. Be flawed. Be someone she measures up to a lot better than she thought.

As for the hug, I was really thinking more like a platonic side-hug while sitting next to her than the desperate, full-body hugs Sabrina has with Mami. Actually, sitting next to her is probably a really good idea. At her level, not looking down at her.

Well...

So, I think these are the important parts...

My reaction.

[] Sigh. Lean back and swear. Stop the plane.

-[] Well, there's only one cure for that -- you'll have to throw her in the deep end, so to speak. Solo witch hunts, every day she isn't training with Kyouko. But please, please, she should keep the clear seed with her at all times and use it frequently because high corruption will affect her thought processes, and if she finds herself out of her depth she should contact Homura first, leading with a clear statement of her location, the word "help," and then following up with what the situation is.
--[] You're not worried about her competence, not after seeing her lately. You're worried -- and she should be too -- about what it would do to Madoka and Hitomi on the off chance something happened to her. Cascades are too common amongst groups of meguca and potentials; a death is probably Mitakihara's only weak point right now. She needs this, you can tell, but if she dies you'll kill her, okay?
---[] Standing policy: any time Sayaka goes off and does something like this alone, check in with her afterwards.

Maybe over word limit.
Holy shit, NO.

Solo Witch hunts are fucking dangerous, even for veterans. Need I remind you that our first meeting with Kyouko involved her nearly being killed by a Witch, only to be saved at the last moment by Yuma and Sabrina? Or how Mami, in canon, got eaten alive by a Witch because she was feeling overconfident and was already thinking ahead to after the fight?

And that's not the only one, either. Remember those two meguca immigrating to Mitakihara tomorrow because one of their teammates was killed by a Witch? Guess what her mistake was.

We can simply address the point by telling Sayaka that the reason she feels like she hasn't been needed or useful lately is because there hasn't been a crisis since she contracted, and that it's only a matter of time until she's needed.

Worst case, we can take her on a Witch hunt and follow her around closely, but let her handle it on her own, intervening only when she seems to be in real danger...but only after she copies Yuma's power, in case she gets injured.

We got one Seed we can hand out. And if it's for Kyouko, we can expect her Seed back.
